Modeling Energy Dynamics With The Energy-Interaction Diagram, Benedikt Harrer, Cassandra Paul
Modeling Energy Dynamics With The Energy-Interaction Diagram, Benedikt Harrer, Cassandra Paul
Faculty Publications
Energy is an important crosscutting concept in all science disciplines, and energy conservation is widely regarded as one of the most important principles in physics.1–3 Over the years, numerous graphical representations have been proposed that allow learners of physics to visualize energy states and dynamics in a particular situation.3–7 Each diagram highlights different aspects of energy and therefore may represent different conceptualizations of energy. Bar charts,8 for example, foreground the idea of multiple categories of energy to account for the distribution of energy in a system across those energy types. Similarly, pie charts5 highlight relative distribution …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This paper examines the SWAYAM online courses offered in past, current and upcoming years. It is found from study that in past a good number of courses were offered. But, there is a decreasing trend in the growth of the courses. Majority of the courses (58.49%) were offered in engineering in the past whereas in current year, more number of online courses were offered in science disciplines (22.22%). Undergraduate and School level courses were offered mostly in the past and current. English was a dominating medium of instruction.

The present study has been undertaken to know the information seeking pattern of the scientific community who belong to different universities under the study. In this study, it has been tried to find out the satisfaction after utilization of print or digital information resources available in the digital environment with a view to understand the situation of the existing library system. After evaluation and observation of the findings of the study critically, it leads to create confusion regarding the nature of information seeking pattern by the scientific community. It is found that the existing library information system is seemed to …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
All the cumulative actions undertaken by an individual or an organisation to ensure that any content is usable across generations of information technology is known as digital preservation. Although digital preservation is not a new concept for libraries as it almost started in mid 1980s, right from then the libraries have been migrating and refreshing their OPAC records as well as their databases to keep them updated with the emerging systems, software’s and technologies. The libraries are spending larger portions of their budgetary allocations either for procuring or accessing digital products and services (digital content). Archiving and preservation of digital …

The Ohio State University’s holdings of graduate theses and dissertations were examined to determine if highly-downloaded titles tended to be highly-cited. The study found that citation rates were highly variable and did not necessarily correspond to download rates. This included very highly downloaded titles with low citation rates, and lesser-downloaded titles with high citation rates. The study found that Google Scholar, which was used to identify citation rates, too often counts theses and dissertations as a version of a different work with the same title, even if it is another format and sometimes with additional authors. Developing Spatially Accurate Rainfall Predictions For The San Francisco Bay Area Through Case Studies Of Atmospheric River And Other Synoptic Events, Alison Bridger, Dung Nguyen, Sen Chiao
Faculty Publications, Meteorology and Climate Science
Rainfall patterns in the San Francisco Bay Area (SFBA) are highly influenced by local topography. It has been a forecasting challenge for the main US forecast models. This study investigates the ability of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model to improve upon forecasts, with particular emphasis on the rain shadow common to the southern end of the SFBA. Three rain events were evaluated: a mid-season atmospheric river (AR) event with copious rains; a typical non-AR frontal passage rain event; and an area-wide rain event in which zero rain was recorded in the southern SFBA. The results show that, with …

There are several metrics available for application in bibliometrics. Some of the metrics that have been considered here such as measuring growth of publications, citation impact, authorship pattern, h-index have been widely used to generate statistical analysis with respect to books, articles, publications. Now one must be aware of the pros and cons of each and every metrics used in the research. One has to be certain that there is no information that is getting lost when data about researchers and their institutions are squeezed into a tabular form of metrics. There are certain metrics that have been discussed to …
