Unveiling The Web Presence Of State Universities Of Assam: A Webometric Study, Pritam Dey, Mukut Sarmah
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This study examines the web impact and visibility of the websites of State Universities of Assam. Through various webometric parameters, the study analyzes the URLs, obtains Alexa traffic rank of websites and calculates the web impacts factors (WIFs) and WISER rank of the University websites. The raw data like the amount of web-pages, rich files, links etc. was collected by using the Google search engine and a web based Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tool. Findings revealed that the Top Level Domain (TLD) .ac.in is the mostly used domain extension by the state university websites of Assam. The websites of Assam …

Information Professionals' Hiring And Retention: Pakistani Librarians' Perspectives, Mirza Muhammad Akbar
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The purpose of this research was to shed light on the problems faced by IPs working in Pakistani academic libraries. It lays out the challenges that academic libraries confront when trying to hire qualified IPs and suggests solutions for doing so in today's fast-paced academic setting. It also includes a list of desirable qualities that universities and colleges seek when employing IPs.
We conducted semi-structured interviews with ten hiring-process-involved libraries in charge at five public and private universities. Based on the results, it seems that in the present and future, interpersonal skills are the most sought after quality in IP …

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted college students’ mental health and wellbeing. Even before the pandemic, young adults reported high mental health morbidity. During the pandemic, young adult college students faced unprecedented challenges, including campus closure and a pivot to fully online education.
Methods: This study employed a novel participatory approach to a Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) in an introductory epidemiology course to examine factors students considered important regarding their experience during the pandemic. Two groups of undergraduate students enrolled in this course (one in Fall 2020 and another in Spring 2021) and participated in the CURE. A …

Characteristics And Nature Of Academic Staff’S User Experiences In Electronic Library Database Utilisation, Kachollom Chollom, Alfred Michael Obaje, Thomas A. Adigun
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Abstract
Introduction. The use of electronic library databases (e-library databases) by academic staff is accepted globally as contributing immensely-to academic staff research work. However, based on one of the researchers’ experiences as a Subject Librarian as well as context-specific issues that arose from the existing literature, e-library databases are underutilised by academic staff at the University of Jos and similar institutions in North-Central Nigeria. Many previous studies on the use of e-library databases by academic staff in Nigerian universities were centred on the quantitative survey methodology, which lack in-depth perspectives of academics’ experiences. Thus, additional qualitative insights are necessary. Hence, …

The designs employed for this study were case study with a descriptive survey method used to solicit information from 88 lecturers of the University. The self-designed questionnaire was the main instrument for the data collection. IBM Statistical Product and Service Solutions (IBM-SPSS) was used for the analysis. The findings established that lecturers could communicate effectively with their students through the e-learning platform. It was also discovered that poor internet connectivity was ranked as the first (1st …

Accurate accounting of emissions and removals of CO2 is critical for the planning and verification of emission reduction targets in support of the Paris Agreement. Here, we present a pilot dataset of country-specific net carbon exchange (NCE; fossil plus terrestrial ecosystem fluxes) and terrestrial carbon stock changes aimed at informing countries' carbon budgets. These estimates are based on "top-down"NCE outputs from the v10 Orbiting Carbon Observatory (OCO-2) modeling intercomparison project (MIP), wherein an ensemble of inverse modeling groups conducted standardized experiments assimilating OCO-2 column-Averaged dry-Air mole fraction (XCO2) retrievals (ACOS v10), in situ CO2 measurements or …

Prediction Of State Of Health Of Lithium-Ion Battery Using Health Index Informed Attention Model, Yupeng Wei
Prediction Of State Of Health Of Lithium-Ion Battery Using Health Index Informed Attention Model, Yupeng Wei
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
State-of-health (SOH) is a measure of a battery’s capacity in comparison to its rated capacity. Despite numerous data-driven algorithms being developed to estimate battery SOH, they are often ineffective in handling time series data, as they are unable to utilize the most significant portion of a time series while predicting SOH. Furthermore, current data-driven algorithms are often unable to learn a health index, which is a measurement of the battery’s health condition, to capture capacity degradation and regeneration. To address these issues, we first present an optimization model to obtain a health index of a battery, which accurately captures the …

Moral Economies For Water: A Framework For Analyzing Norms Of Justice, Economic Behavior, And Social Enforcement In The Contexts Of Water Inequality, Melissa Beresford, Amber Wutich, Dustin Garrick, Georgina Drew
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Over the past two decades, scholars have invoked E. P. Thompson's and James Scott's concept of a “moral economy” to explain how people mobilize notions of justice to make claims to water. We draw together 20 years of literature to assess the state-of-the-art present in research on moral economies for water. We trace the historical foundations of the moral economies concept and its relevance to water; define the three basic components of a moral economy for water—(1) shared understandings of justice, (2) normative economic practices, (3) social pressure mechanisms—and provide examples of how they manifest globally. We then discuss how …
