The Downfall Of Capitalism: Its Exploitation Of Mental Health And The Working Class, Joanna Castaneda
The Downfall Of Capitalism: Its Exploitation Of Mental Health And The Working Class, Joanna Castaneda
Themis: Research Journal of Justice Studies and Forensic Science
Capitalism has been part of American culture for so long, but so has the topic of mental health. America has seen high rates of mental health issues occurring among working-class people of America. High-end companies making billions of revenues have taken advantage of their workers, leaving many to rely on working multiple jobs to get their families by. As for women and minorities, the job setting has not come easy for many as they face major inequality in the workforce and setbacks in wanting to reach positions. Capitalism has shown that income inequality has made life in America difficult, leaving …

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Composite polymer electrolytes (CPEs) strike an effective balance between ionic conductivity and mechanical flexibility for lithium-ion solid-state batteries. Long-term performance, however, is limited by capacity fading after hundreds of charge and discharge cycles. The causes of performance degradation include multiple contributing factors such as dendrite formation, physicochemical changes in electrolytes, and structural remodeling of porous electrodes. Among the many factors that contribute to performance degradation, the effect of stress specifically on the composite electrolyte is not well understood. This study examines the mechanical changes in a poly(ethylene oxide) electrolyte with bis(trifluoromethane) sulfonimide. Two different sizes of Li6.4La3Zr1.4Ta0.6O12 particles (500 nm …

Facebook has been adopted by public health organisations for health promotion, psychoeducation and behaviour change campaigns. Studies have underscored the potential advantages of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) in decelerating the transmission of COVID-19 and mitigating its severe health consequences. However, these studies did not content analyse these NPI messages especially on Facebook. This study sought to investigate the phenomenon of NPI COVID-19 videos on Facebook that were viewed by Nigerians and Beninese. This study used quantitative content analysis as the research design and analysed 56 Nigerian videos and 36 Beninese videos totalling 92 on Facebook with an inter-rater reliability of 96%. …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The mission of an academic library is no longer limited to supporting teaching, learning, research, and outreach. It requires reaching out to all stakeholders to create a sustainable ecosystem of information accessibility and dissemination for its immediate community. Understanding the attitude of academic librarians in a digital environment is significant to critically assess their acceptance and use of technology for library services. A positive attitude towards the adoption and use of technology will lead to improved performance and will trigger a positive impact on digital library services. The study sought to investigate the attitude of 154 academic librarians in Cameroon …

Social Inequalities And The Adoption Of Health Misinformation In Cameroon: Implications On Health Behaviour, Eugene Nche Che
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Public health restrictions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in an increase in the reliance on social media for peer interactions. This resulted in the proliferation of medical misinformation and conspiracy theories that undermined public support for disease control measures, and influenced negative health attitudes such as vaccine denial. The aim of this study was to determine how social inequalities influence the adoption of health related misinformation, and the extent to which the adoption of health misinformation results in poor health behaviours. The study employed an exploratory survey design, and relied on both quantitative and qualitative methods to collect …

The thermodynamics of model host–guest-binding reactions is examined in depth using isothermal titration calorimetry. In conflict with classical thermodynamics, the results indicate that the equilibrium-binding quotient, K, is not a constant for all pairings. This outcome is predicted by an equation for binding equilibria that includes an explicit term for the change in solvation free energy that accompanies the formation of a binary complex. Application of this framework to the experimentally observed concentration dependence of K allows one to obtain the energetic contribution of the solvent, a linked equilibrium denoted here as ΔGH2O. The estimated values of ΔGH2O are large …
