Examining The Externalities Of Highway Capacity Expansions In California: An Analysis Of Land Use And Land Cover (Lulc) Using Remote Sensing Technology, Serena E. Alexander, Bo Yang, Owen Hussey, Derek Hicks

Mineta Transportation Institute

There are over 590,000 bridges dispersed across the roadway network that stretches across the United States alone. Each bridge with a length of 20 feet or greater must be inspected at least once every 24 months, according to the Federal Highway Act (FHWA) of 1968. This research developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based framework for bridge and road inspection using drones with multiple sensors collecting capabilities. It is not sufficient to conduct inspections of bridges and roads using cameras alone, so the research team utilized an infrared (IR) camera along with a high-resolution optical camera. In many instances, the IR camera …

Mineta Transportation Institute

This report summarizes the results from the fourteenth year of a national public opinion survey asking U.S. adults questions related to their views on federal transportation taxes. A nationally representative sample of 2,531 respondents completed the online survey from February 13 to March 23, 2023. The questions test public opinions about raising the federal gas tax rate, replacing the federal gas tax with a new mileage fee, and imposing a mileage fee just on commercial travel. In addition to asking directly about support for these tax options, the survey collected data on respondents’ views on the quality of their local …

This project developed a simple methodology for using Twitter data to explore public perceptions about misconduct on public transit in California. The methodology allows future researchers to analyze tweets to answer questions such as: How frequent are tweets related to assault, abuse, or other misconduct on public transit? What concerns arise most frequently? What are the types of behaviors discussed? We collected and analyzed data from Twitter posts in California about various types of public transit misconduct from January 2020 to March 2023 to identify the nature and frequency of reported misconduct. Our findings reveal that harassment, uncivil behavior, and …

Antitumor Activity Of Carboxymethyl Pachymaran With Different Molecular Weights Based On Immunomodulatory And Gut Microbiota, Yalin Zhao, Xi Feng, Lijia Zhang, Wen Huang, Ying Liu

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Carboxymethyl pachymaran (CMP) was treated via high-temperature and cellulase hydrolysis to obtain HTCMP, HTEC-24, and HTEC-48. The chemical structure and in vivo antitumor activities of the four types of CMPs were investigated. Compared with CMP (787.9 kDa), the molecular weights of HTCMP, HTEC-24, and HTEC-48 were decreased to 429.8, 129.9, and 68.6 kDa, respectively. The viscosities and particle sizes of the CMPs could also decrease with the decline in the molecular weights. All the CMPs showed antitumor abilities, but HTEC-24 exhibited the best activity. In the animal study, when curing the spleen and thymus, CMPs displayed immunomodulatory effects by increasing …

An Interactive Web-Based Tool For Predicting And Exploring Brain Cancer Survivability, Gopal Nath, Austin Coursey, Yang Li, Srikanth Prabhu, Harish Garg, Shaymal C. Halder, Saptarshi Sengupta

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Brain cancer is one of the most deadly cancers, with a very low survival rate. By understanding the factors that lead to cancer spreading, practitioners can concentrate their efforts on providing the most effective treatment, and they can modify the treatment plan as necessary. Also, knowing the likelihood of a patient's survival over a specified time period can enable them to make informed decisions about adjusting their routines, future investments, and other health-related decisions. The use of data-driven models in cancer research has gained increased popularity over the past several decades. Moreover, there is still much uncertainty surrounding the factors …

A Comparative Analysis Of Outpatient Nutrition Clinic Scheduling Outcomes Based On In-Person And Telehealth Patient Care Delivery Modalities, Katelyn Humbert, Kasuen Mauldin, Dania Saarony

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

During the start of the global COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, patient care modalities changed from in-person to telehealth to comply with physical distancing guidelines. Our study uniquely examines operations data from three distinct periods: before the transition to telehealth, early transition from in-person care to telehealth, and the eventual adoption of telehealth. We present a comparative analysis of outpatient nutrition clinic scheduling outcomes based on care delivery modality. We used descriptive statistics to report means and variance and frequencies. We used inferential statistics to make comparisons: categorical data were compared using chi-square analysis with post-hoc comparisons using a z-test …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The rapid advancement of information technology has an impact on easier access to information, which could encourage academic plagiarism. If plagiarism is not overcome, it can have a number of consequences, including copyright infringement and the emergence of the assumption that plagiarism is a simple way to create a scientific work. Thus, actions are required to overcome plagiarism, one of which is understanding the perception of students as academicians who frequently commit plagiarism, so strategies to overcome it may be provided. This is a quantitative study based on a survey of 106 students of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The data …
