Information As A Major Criterion For Success In Women's Group Activities In Borno State, Nigeria, Adam Gambo Saleh

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Women's groups constitute an important segment of the labour force in Borno and Nigeria in general. As early as 1930s, women groups such as Aba Market Women, The Amazons, and Matan Arewa had engaged in various activities aimed at improving their lives and contributing towards national development. Government on its part has recognized this fact and involved women groups in various development programs such as Family Economic Advancement Program (FEAP), Better Life Programme for Rural Women (BLRW), and National Program for the Eradication of Poverty (NAPEP); establishment of a ministry for Women Affairs; a host of NGOs; and spends huge …

Status Of E-Theses Repositories With Special Reference To India, Shantashree Sengupta

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Introduction

In the past, researchers were not able to access all the scholarly literature published across the world due to lack of proper communication technologies. With the advent of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), this problem is solved to a major extent and the results of the research going throughout the world is made available to the public without any restriction. The researchers adopted Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) in 2002 and with the help of Open Access (OA) made the research literature available to the world wide user community.

The Open Access Movement

For XXX students to thrive in the highly competitive global economy, it is critical to develop international perspectives and knowledge. The $1 million Global Technology Initiative (GTI), established in 2004, provides SJSU students with an opportunity to gain a global perspective of the world by learning about technology and business developments in the Asia Pacific region. GTI donors are high-tech business leaders with strong business ties in Silicon Valley and the Asia Pacific region. Given the current trend of engineering globalization in the global economy, particularly the trend of outsourcing Silicon Valley manufacturing, development, and design work to foreign countries, …

Characterization Of Muscle Spindle Afferents In The Adult Mouse Using An In Vitro Muscle-Nerve Preparation, Katherine Wilkinson, H. E. Kloefkorn, S. Hochman Jun 2012

Characterization Of Muscle Spindle Afferents In The Adult Mouse Using An In Vitro Muscle-Nerve Preparation, Katherine Wilkinson, H. E. Kloefkorn, S. Hochman

Faculty Publications, Biological Sciences

We utilized an in vitro adult mouse extensor digitorum longus (EDL) nerve-attached preparation to characterize the responses of muscle spindle afferents to ramp-and-hold stretch and sinusoidal vibratory stimuli. Responses were measured at both room (24°C) and muscle body temperature (34°C). Muscle spindle afferent static firing frequencies increased linearly in response to increasing stretch lengths to accurately encode the magnitude of muscle stretch (tested at 2.5%, 5% and 7.5% of resting length [Lo]). Peak firing frequency increased with ramp speeds (20% Lo/sec, 40% Lo/sec, and 60% Lo/sec). As a population, muscle spindle afferents could entrain 1:1 to sinusoidal vibrations throughout the …

Emosonet: An Emotion-Aware Social Network For Emotional Wellbeing, Zerrin Yumak-Kasap, Yu Chen, Pearl Pu

Faculty Publications, Information Systems & Technology

This paper presents our initial ideas towards developing an emotion-aware social network for the purpose of increasing emotional wellbeing. The framework will use sensors and behavior analysis methods in order to infer users’ stress level automatically with minimal user effort and use audio, animation and vibro-tactile feedback for enhanced engagement. Additionally, we will explore the role of social support, social influence and gamification for sustained behavior change.

A Framework For Developing And Integrating Effective Routing Strategies Within The Emergency Management Decision-Support System, Research Report 11-12, Anurag Pande, Frances Edwards, Joseph Yu

Mineta Transportation Institute

This report describes the modeling, calibration, and validation of a VISSIM traffic-flow simulation of the San José, California, downtown network and examines various evacuation scenarios and first-responder routings to assess strategies that would be effective in the event of a no-notice disaster. The modeled network required a large amount of data on network geometry, signal timings, signal coordination schemes, and turning-movement volumes. Turning-movement counts at intersections were used to validate the network with the empirical formula-based measure known as the GEH statistic. Once the base network was tested and validated, various scenarios were modeled to estimate evacuation and emergency vehicle …

Text Summarization, Youn S. Kim Apr 2012

Text Summarization, Youn S. Kim

Master's Projects

With the overwhelming amount of textual information available in electronic formats on the web, there is a need for an efficient text summarizer capable of condensing large bodies of text into shorter versions while keeping the relevant information intact. Such a technology would allow users to get their information in a shortened form, saving valuable time. Since 1997, Microsoft Word has included a summarizer for documents, and currently there are companies that summarize breaking news and send SMS for mobile phones. I wish to create a text summarizer to provide condensed versions of original documents. My focus is on blogs, …

Information like the original price, deal price, discount and number of coupons sold will be displayed in a pop-up window when a deal is selected. Different colors are …

Link Ide : A Real Time Collaborative Development Environment, Kevin Grant Apr 2012

Link Ide : A Real Time Collaborative Development Environment, Kevin Grant

Master's Projects

While working on large scale development projects all software engineers find themselves, at some point, working with a source control system in order to add or re-vert changes to code. With software projects involving a multitude of programmers this is a crucial part of successful development. When working on a smaller project howev-er, with a tight knit group, setting up and dealing with such a system can become more work than it is worth. To solve this problem a real time collaborative integrated devel-opment environment could be used. The IDE’s focus would be on providing a collabora-tive setting for programming …
