Recruiting companies recommend elite female soccer players be ≥165 cm (5'5″) in stature. This study investigated if stature limits match-playing time and performance in elite World Cup soccer among players, positions, and countries. We hypothesized stature would not affect match-playing time or performance. Descriptive data were collected on 552 players from 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. Odds ratios determined likelihood of starting for players ≥165 cm. ANOVAs compared playing time between stature groups, among positions, and between countries. Performance factors including assists, goals, attempts, corners, shots blocked, and defending blocks were reported. Independent t-tests compared differences between players (≥165 cm, …

Quantifying The Evidential Value Of Celebrity Endorsement: A P-Curve Analysis, Shiyun Chloe Tian, Ruoyu Sun, Qian Huang, John Petit

Celebrity endorsements have long been used as a promotional tool in marketing communication. However, literature has documented inconsistent findings on the effects of celebrity endorsements compared to no endorsement or noncelebrity endorsements, suggesting a close examination about the reliability and robustness of celebrity endorsements is needed. This study conducted a p-curve analysis among two sets of published studies based on different comparison groups (celebrity endorsements vs. no celebrity endorsement; celebrity endorsements vs. noncelebrity endorsements) to investigate if both sets of studies contain an evidential value. The significantly right-skewed p curve suggests that both sets of published studies have some integrity. …

How Gender Stereotypes Influence Men's And Women's Sports, Giancarlo Capolino

Modern Western societies, including the United States of America, are often credited for advancing equality for historically oppressed groups in society, including women. Since the founding of the United States, women have successfully fought for and obtained equal rights under the law in society. While much progress has been made, modern society continues to reinforce sexism and discrimination, specifically through the promotion and continuation of harmful gender stereotypes of both men and women.

This article examines existing data to consider the factors that go into the valuation of a sports franchise. Rather than assuming a narrow monetary calculation, I argue for a broader perspective that includes the often incalculable influence of coaches, fans, and players.

There is currently a limited understanding of the value of athletic trainers (ATs) working in the secondary school setting. Therefore, our objective was to explore high school athletic directors’ perceptions of an AT’s roles and services and the means in which those perceptions are established, specifically as they relate to the value of ATs. A qualitative methodology was utilized for this investigation. High school athletic directors were interviewed regarding their experiences with the use of athletic training services. Data was analyzed using the consensual qualitative research approach. Athletic directors demonstrated an overall understanding of the roles and responsibilities fulfilled by …

The Value Of Sports Teams: The Influence Of Coaches, Fans, And Players On Value, Montgomery Gray
Writing Across the Curriculum
In this paper, I argue that the true value of a team comes from the coaches, fans, and players. These are the people who influence the monetary and competitional success of a team, so are the ones who affect the value the most. Growing up, I have always been a part of a sports team and have cheered for multiple professional teams across numerous sports, but I have always questioned how a team should be valued. I have also always been in business, so I believed that the monetary value was a good source but have found that it goes …

The Impact Of Participation In Athletics On Neurological And Psychological Health And The Ability To Compete, Sean Burke
Writing Across the Curriculum
Through the analysis of data pooled from multiple studies, we identify the relationship between participation in athletics and the likelihood of developing a mental illness or brain injury and how this may impact the longevity of an athlete’s career. Using data from various studies, we find that the prolonged exposure to athletics results in a higher likelihood of developing a psychological or neurological illness both in the short and long term. Additionally, we find that this is often the result of accumulated injuries, both neurological, such as concussions, and physiological, such as tearing muscles or breaking bones. The results, however, …

Managing The Business Of Soccer: A Conceptual Framework, Sten Söderman, James Santomier
WCBT Faculty Publications
In recent years soccer (i.e., European football) has experienced rapid globalization, primarily due to increased integration of sponsorship agreements, foreign investment, private equity, digital media technologies and effective executive leadership. Manchester United, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, and other high-level European soccer clubs are now owned or managed by investors, with the ostensible objective of generating ancillary benefits or significant profits. Historically, however, the ownership of unprofitable and often relegated soccer clubs was overwhelmingly in the hands of wealthy sport enthusiasts as sole proprietors. Given the recent and often dramatic changes in the business of soccer, the primary purpose of this chapter …

The Role Of An Auditor, Rick Rignola
The Role Of An Auditor, Rick Rignola

This presentation is about the role of an auditor in society. To the general public, the function of an auditor is unknown. I plan to educate those on what an auditor is, why we need them in society, and what happens when an auditor fails to perform its duties. Auditing is a systematic process that is very important to the sustainability of businesses and the economy. The world has seen numerous scenarios where inefficient auditing or fraud has hurt many victims financially. These scandals include Enron, WorldCom, and more. We need sufficient auditors to prevent events like those from happening …
