Gesture And Attitude, Stephen Piper
Gesture And Attitude, Stephen Piper
Theses
I intend to explore, with a small format camera, people's gestures and physical attitudes and the way in which these are enhanced by their relationship to the environment.
A Microprocessor Based Hybrid System For Digital Error Correction, Peter H. Sohn
A Microprocessor Based Hybrid System For Digital Error Correction, Peter H. Sohn
Theses
The design of a microprocessor based hybrid system for digital error correction is presented. It is shown that such a system allows for implementation of several cyclic codes at a variety of throughput rates providing variable degrees of error correction depending on current user requirements. The theoretical basis for encoding and decoding of binary BCH codes is reviewed. Design and implementation of system hardware and software are described. A method for injection of independent bit errors with controllable statistics into the system is developed, and its accuracy verified by computer simulation. This method of controllable error injection is used to …

Color Vision Tests Using A Calibrated Color Monitor Controlled By A Microprocessor, David Wolf
Color Vision Tests Using A Calibrated Color Monitor Controlled By A Microprocessor, David Wolf
Theses
A feasibility study was performed to determine if colors on a CRT could be measured accurately and then controlled by a computer to provide a means of performing color vision tests. Benefits from using a calibrated computer/monitor system could be decreased testing time, exact diagnosis, and possibly the means of quantifing the degree of the deficiency. The Atari 800XL Computer with a Sakata color monitor were used for the experimentation due to their low cost, availability, and ability to create the largest number of colors of any computer in the same price range. The system was calibrated and color vision …

Photometric Processing And Interpretation Of Ratioed Imagery By Multivariate Discriminant Analysis For Separation Of Geological Types, Donald Marsh
Theses
A study has investigated the ability of ratioed information from Landsat 2 Multispectral imagery, to discriminate geological features through the application of photometric processing techniques. United States Geologic:.1 survey maps corresponding to the areas investigated have been used in correlation with ratioed imagery to identify predict and confirm geological features on the basis of resulting densitometric information. A multivariate, discriminant analysis of rock type, exposure data has enabled the fabrication of the final, optimized ratio image. The optimisation process used to predict geological types involved a priority structure that found the spectral bands with the highest discriminatory power and the …
An Investigation Into The Penumbral Dose Of A Bloxel, (Block Element) Matrix-Design Block To Replace Currently Utilized Radiation Treatment Field Shaping Techniques, Theresa Ciccone
Theses
Presented here is an investigation to establish physical rationale for the acceptance by physicians of a new form of blocking device for radiotherapy. The focus of the investigation is on the percent dosage obtained in the penumbral regions created by 6 mm and 9 mm stepped-edge blocks, relative to a straight edge, when exposed to 1.25 and 18 MeV photons.
The Effect Of Aerial Haze On The Contrast And Resolution Of A Photographic Image In Direct Application To A Low-Altitude, Remote, Pilotless Imaging System, Todd Eric Pegelow
The Effect Of Aerial Haze On The Contrast And Resolution Of A Photographic Image In Direct Application To A Low-Altitude, Remote, Pilotless Imaging System, Todd Eric Pegelow
Theses
A study of the effect of aerial haze on photographic images acquired through the use of a remotely-piloted imaging system has been completed. The project involved the design, construction, and implementation of a remotely-controlled airborne imaging system for the express purpose of collecting scientific data relating the contrast of an image to the altitude at which that image was exposed. Data was collected and analyzed and the results are presented here. The system was also evaluated with respect to its usefulness as a collector of scientific data. The conclusion drawn is that aerial haze had no effect on the contrast …

Theses
The purpose of this thesis is to design a database for videotex from the view point of a Graphic Designer without ignoring technological aspects. I am dealing with a problem that has been overlooked and needs to be addressed the problem of database structure, search procedure, and retrieval of information for videotex. The goal is to design a database for videotex that will give the user ease of manipulation of information and better retrieval of that information with high interactivity and massive random access.

A Study Of Color Change With Respect To Dot Misregister In Dot-On-Dot Multicolor Halftone Printing, Christopher Vasko
A Study Of Color Change With Respect To Dot Misregister In Dot-On-Dot Multicolor Halftone Printing, Christopher Vasko
Theses
Color variation with respect to dot misregister is a phenomenon that has long been observed in the color printing industry. In this paper the relationship between dot misregister and color change in dot-on-dot multicolor halftone printing has been investigated for the additive primaries red, green and blue. By measuring the color difference between in and out-of-register dots the direction of color shift and its magnitude can be determined along with the decrease in lightness of out-of-register samples. Misregistered red and green samples displayed a yellow color shift and misregistered blue samples displayed a purple color shift. The lightness of all …
The Effects Of Benzotriazole In A Photographic Developer On The Covering Power Of An Emulsion, Kenneth Carlson
The Effects Of Benzotriazole In A Photographic Developer On The Covering Power Of An Emulsion, Kenneth Carlson
Theses
Benzotriazole in a photographic developer has been determined to increase covering power. This is accompanied by a decrease in photographic speed proportional to the increase in covering power. Benzotriazole decreases the rate of development when measured by mass of silver developed, but may increase the rate of development when measured by density at D-max exposures because of the increase in covering power. The effect of benzotriazole on image color has also been determined. Possible explanations for effects are given.

The Problem Of Gelling When Silicates Are Substituted For Gum Arabic In Lithographic Fountain Solutions, David Wang
The Problem Of Gelling When Silicates Are Substituted For Gum Arabic In Lithographic Fountain Solutions, David Wang
Theses
The fountain solutions used for lithographic offset printing are solutions combining several chemicals. Each consists of water, some weak acid, gum arabic and alcohol in some fountain solutions, and some additives such as a nitrate, phosphate, bichromate, etc. This paper is a study of using polysilicate material instead of gum arabic in lithographic fountain solutions. Also, to solve the problem of silicate gelation by using the proper ratio of chemicals. The gelling problem of silicate material may be affected by the concentration, pH value, organic solvents and impurities, etc. Any one of the above will make the silicate material gel …

A Stability Test Of Dry Silver Microfilm, Christopher Edwards
A Stability Test Of Dry Silver Microfilm, Christopher Edwards
Theses
A research project has been completed, in which experiments involving temperature and humidity were performed on 3M experimental microfilm samples. The experiments dealt with humidity levels usual to file storage conditions and elevated temperatures to allow for accelerated aging studies. Arrhenius plots were used to extrapolate the results obtained to normal room temperatures. The data obtained indicated that the film has a life expectancy of 62 years at 30% relative humidity and 53 years at 50% when stored at 24 C.
Pwm Motor Control: Model And Servo Analysis, Rick J. Sandor
Pwm Motor Control: Model And Servo Analysis, Rick J. Sandor
Theses
In recent years, the performance requirements of high power servo motor systems utilizing pulse width modulated (PWM) switching amplifiers have steadily increased. These PWM motor amplifiers perform an important function in the d.c. servo system by boosting the low level command signal to the high voltage and current levels required by the motor. Ideally, this power gain is to be constant over all input frequencies but, in reality, gain is frequency dependent which affects system dynamics. The amplifier gain and phase versus frequency relationships an*i amplifier noise and d.c. offsets which may affect system response must be known to the …
