Boundary Management Permeability And Relationship Satisfaction In Dual-Earner Couples: The Asymmetrical Gender Effect, Marcello Russo, Ariane Ollier-Malaterre, Ellen Ernst Kossek, Marc Ohana Sep 2018

Boundary Management Permeability And Relationship Satisfaction In Dual-Earner Couples: The Asymmetrical Gender Effect, Marcello Russo, Ariane Ollier-Malaterre, Ellen Ernst Kossek, Marc Ohana

Department of Management Faculty Publications

Given the increasing use of technology and the growing blurring of the boundaries between the work and nonwork domains, decisions about when to interrupt work for family and vice versa can have critical implications for relationship satisfaction within dual-earner couples. Using a sample of 104 dual-earner couples wherein one of the partners is a member of the largest Italian smartphone-user community, this study examines how variation in boundary management permeability within dual-earner couples relates to partner relationship satisfaction, and whether the effect differed by gender and partners' agreement on caregiving roles in the family. Using actor-partner analysis, we examined the …

Exploring Social Desirability Bias In Perceptions Of Dog Adoption: All’S Well That Ends Well? Or Does The Method Of Adoption Matter?, Courtney Bir, Nicole Olynk Widmar, Candace Croney Sep 2018

Exploring Social Desirability Bias In Perceptions Of Dog Adoption: All’S Well That Ends Well? Or Does The Method Of Adoption Matter?, Courtney Bir, Nicole Olynk Widmar, Candace Croney

Department of Agricultural Economics Faculty Publications

Dogs are a popular companion animal in the United States; however, dog acquisition is often a contentious subject. Adoption is often cited as an ethical and popular method of acquisition but interpretation of the term ‘adoption’ may vary. In a nationally representative survey of the U.S., 767 respondents were asked questions regarding their opinions of dog acquisition and adoption. Within the sample, 45% had a dog; of those, 40% had adopted a dog, and 47% visited a veterinarian once a year. A best-worst choice experiment, where respondents were asked to choose the most ethical and least ethical method of acquiring …

Taking Professional Development From 2d To 3d: Design-Based Learning, 2d Modeling, And 3d Fabrication For Authentic Standards-Aligned Lesson Plans, Darran R. Cairns, Reagan Curtis, Konstantinos A. Sierros, Johnna J. Bolyard Sep 2018

Taking Professional Development From 2d To 3d: Design-Based Learning, 2d Modeling, And 3d Fabrication For Authentic Standards-Aligned Lesson Plans, Darran R. Cairns, Reagan Curtis, Konstantinos A. Sierros, Johnna J. Bolyard

Interdisciplinary Journal of Problem-Based Learning

There is currently significant interest in 3D fabrication in middle school classrooms. At its best 3D printing can be utilized in authentic design projects that integrate math, science, and technology, which facilitate deep learning by students. In essence, students are able to tinker in a virtual world using 3D design software and then tinker in the real world using printed parts. We describe a professional development activity we designed to enable middle school teachers who had taken part in a three-year Math Science Partnership program to authentically integrate 3D printing into design-based lessons. We include some examples of successful design-based …

Aquatic Ecosystems In A Shifting Indiana Climate: A Report From The Indiana Climate Change Impacts Assessment, Tomas Höök, Carolyn Foley, Paris Collingsworth, Leslie Dorworth, Brant Fisher, Jason Hoverman Dr., Elizabeth Larue, Mark Pyron, Jennifer Tank, Melissa Widhalm, Jeffrey Dukes Sep 2018

Aquatic Ecosystems In A Shifting Indiana Climate: A Report From The Indiana Climate Change Impacts Assessment, Tomas Höök, Carolyn Foley, Paris Collingsworth, Leslie Dorworth, Brant Fisher, Jason Hoverman Dr., Elizabeth Larue, Mark Pyron, Jennifer Tank, Melissa Widhalm, Jeffrey Dukes

Aquatic Ecosystems Reports

Indiana is home to many types of aquatic ecosystems, including lakes, rivers, streams, wetlands and temporary (ephemeral) pools, which provide habitats for a wide range of plants and animals. These ecosystems will experience changes in water quantity, water temperature, ice cover, water clarity and oxygen content as the state’s temperature and rainfall patterns shift. The plants and animals living in these aquatic ecosystems will undergo changes that will vary based on the species and the specific places they inhabit.

It is challenging to know precisely how organisms will respond to changes in climate. Effects on one species create a difficult-to-predict …

Exploring Problem-Based Learning For Middle School Design And Engineering Education In Digital Fabrication Laboratories, Monica M. Chan, Paulo Blikstein

Interdisciplinary Journal of Problem-Based Learning

This is a research study of design and engineering classes that use a problem-based learning (PBL) approach in digital fabrication makerspaces in two middle schools. In these studies, teachers employ a PBL approach and provide an ill-structured problem scenario to facilitate design and engineering lessons in the FabLab (fabrication laboratory). Students in each school tackled different challenges that they defined for themselves in groups. This study provides examples of student-student interactions separated into key themes—defining specifications with teammates, personal exploration, and communication about discoveries. This study also provides examples of teacher-student interactions, and themes include demonstrations with tangible objects, discussing …
