A Review Of Theories For Sound Transmission Through Infinite Double Panels And Identification Of Asymptotic Behavior, Zhuang Mo, J Stuart Bolton
A Review Of Theories For Sound Transmission Through Infinite Double Panels And Identification Of Asymptotic Behavior, Zhuang Mo, J Stuart Bolton
Publications of the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories
In this paper, existing theories for sound transmission through infinite, double panel systems are first reviewed with a view to identifying their differences. The review begins from the classic papers of Beranek and Work, and London, before going on to consider later work by Mulholland, Parbrook and Cummings, Heckl, Fahy, and Hamada and Tachibana. The sound transmission problem was framed as a boundary value problem by most of these authors, except for Mulholland et al. who derived a multiple-reflection theory, and Hamada and Tachibana who introduced a transfer matrix approach. Further, except for Heckl’s model, in which a locally-reacting medium …
Resident Physicians’ Perceptions Of Ambulatory Care Pharmacy, Ashley H. Meredith, Darin Ramsey, Andrew Schmelz, Rachel Berglund
Resident Physicians’ Perceptions Of Ambulatory Care Pharmacy, Ashley H. Meredith, Darin Ramsey, Andrew Schmelz, Rachel Berglund
Department of Pharmacy Practice Faculty Publications
Background: Physicians' acceptance of clinical pharmacy services is dependent on exposure to those services, with use increasing as resident physicians progress through their training. Resident physicians train within environments that have a multidisciplinary teaching and clinical care approach, working closely with other healthcare professionals. Ambulatory care pharmacists are increasingly working with resident physicians in clinic settings as part of the multidisciplinary team, and identification of resident physicians’ perceptions may influence future collaboration.
Objective: The objective of this research is to evaluate the perception of ambulatory care clinical pharmacy services from the perspective of resident physicians.
Methods: A statewide network of …
Ex Vivo Electrochemical Measurement Of Glutamate Release During Spinal Cord Injury, James K. Nolan, Tran N. H. Nguyen, Mara Fattah, Jessica C. Page, Riyi Shi, Hyowon Lee
Ex Vivo Electrochemical Measurement Of Glutamate Release During Spinal Cord Injury, James K. Nolan, Tran N. H. Nguyen, Mara Fattah, Jessica C. Page, Riyi Shi, Hyowon Lee
Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering Faculty Publications
Excessive glutamate release following traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) has been associated with exacerbating the extent of SCI. However, the mechanism behind sustained high levels of extracellular glutamate is unclear. Spinal cord segments mounted in a sucrose double gap recording chamber are an established model for traumatic spinal cord injury. We have developed a method to record, with micro-scale printed glutamate biosensors, glutamate release from ex vivo rat spinal cord segments following injury. This protocol would work equally well for similar glutamate biosensors.
The Baltics And Ukraine: Geopolitical Hotspots, Bert Chapman
The Baltics And Ukraine: Geopolitical Hotspots, Bert Chapman
Libraries Faculty and Staff Scholarship and Research
Provides detailed historical overview and contemporary analysis on why the Baltics and Ukraine are historical and remain contemporary geopolitical hotspots. Provides analysis of cultural economic, environmental, and security factors influencing long-standing contentiousness over these regions. Places emphasis on how Russian behavior and policies influence this contentiousness. Concludes by noting that differences between the U.S. and its allies and conflicts within the U.S. Government may limit the ability of the U.S. to effectively respond to events in these disputed regions.
Making Data Visualization Design Worksheets Accessible, Edith Mauro
Making Data Visualization Design Worksheets Accessible, Edith Mauro
Purdue Undergraduate Research Conference
Accessibility of a document means that the material can be read by a visually impaired person just as well as a person without a visual impairment would. Accessibility is an essential factor of consideration because it allows students with visual impairments and other disabilities to be smoothly integrated into courses. Purdue is making efforts to mandate accessibility within all departments, but there is still a significant gap that needs to be filled. One method of combating a limited document layout, and normalizing accessibility, is to format electronic course documents to be fully compatible with a screen reader. The focus of …
Factory Optimization Using Deep Reinforcement Learning Ai, Shivam Duhan, Chengming Zhang, Wenyu Jing, Mingqi Li
Factory Optimization Using Deep Reinforcement Learning Ai, Shivam Duhan, Chengming Zhang, Wenyu Jing, Mingqi Li
Purdue Undergraduate Research Conference
The long-standing goal of factory optimization is to find optimal machine and conveyor belt placement to maximize the efficiency of the assembly line. We are developing a reinforcement learning agent to play Factorio, a game where you build and maintain factories, without prior domain knowledge. Factorio is the perfect environment for deep reinforcement learning as it supports extensive modification using an in-game debugging mode which allows our agent to interface with the game effortlessly. The reinforcement learning agent implements a policy of actions based on the reward function, continuously optimizing towards incremental goals specified by the user. The ultimate goal …
“No Country For Old Men”: Huxley’S Brave New World And The Value Of Old Age, Maren Linett
“No Country For Old Men”: Huxley’S Brave New World And The Value Of Old Age, Maren Linett
Department of English Faculty Publications
This article inserts Aldous Huxley's Brave New World (1932) into a bioethical conversation about the value of old age and old people. Exploring literary treatments of bioethical questions can supplement conversations within bioethics proper, helping to reveal our existing assumptions and clear the way for more considered views; indeed, as Peter Swirski has argued, literary texts can serve as thought experiments that illuminate the ramifications of philosophical ideas. This essay examines the novel's representation of a society without old people in conjunction with ideas about aging and life narratives put forward by philosophers and bioethicists such as Ezekiel Emanuel, Gilbert …
Quantifying Spatiotemporal Impacts Of The Interaction Of Water Scarcity And Water Use By The Global Semiconductor Manufacturing Industry, Kali Frost, Inez Hua
Quantifying Spatiotemporal Impacts Of The Interaction Of Water Scarcity And Water Use By The Global Semiconductor Manufacturing Industry, Kali Frost, Inez Hua
Purdue University Libraries Open Access Publishing Fund
The high-tech semiconductor manufacturing sector is integral to the international electronics industry and was valued at over $400 billion USD in 2017. Intensive water use by this industry is well-documented and this work provides a spatially explicitly assessment of water use impacts by nearly 100% of global semiconductor manufacturing capacity. Both direct manufacturing water use and water use from electricity were considered as part of a facility’s total withdrawal. Manufacturing water withdrawals were estimated by using technology-specific water and electricity use data, reported at the semiconductor chip or wafer level from the life cycle literature and industry estimates. Electricity water …
2019 Undergraduate Research Conference
2019 Undergraduate Research Conference
The Journal of Purdue Undergraduate Research
The annual Purdue Undergraduate Research Conference is the premier, campus-wide celebration of research, creative endeavors, and scholarly activity conducted by undergraduates representing all colleges and schools. More than 800 students delivered 35 oral presentations on April 4, 2019 and nearly 500 poster presentations on April 9, 2019. Student presenters communicated their research methods and findings to an audience eager to learn what the students accomplished and how those efforts contribute to the larger body of knowledge. More than 200 faculty, staff, and graduate students served as judges to evaluate students’ presentations. Participating colleges, schools, and units distributed a total of …
