The purpose of this research was to investigate the causes of and determine possible remedies for the rising number of county road accidents in Indiana. County road accidents were defined for the purpose of this study as all traffic accidents occurring on roads which are administered by the County Commissioners in Indiana except accidents occurring at intersections of county roads with state highways. These latter accidents are normally charged to state highways. The information used in this research was obtained from accident records. In the last few years the study of nonlinear mechanics has received the attention of numerous investigators, either under the scope of pure mathematics or from the engineering point of view. All digital control systems contain at least one signal which is sampled in time and quantized in amplitude. Design of these systems is often based on the assumption that a very large number of levels of quantization is available leading to the approximation of the basically nonlinear system by a linear one. If the actual system is constructed so that the linear assumption is satisfied, the performance may be excellent but other design factors such as reliability, cost, weight, and power consumption may be very unsatisfactory. The purpose of this manual is to impress upon the reader the urgent need for sound planning and to show what tools are available to facilitate the job of planning and (2) to provide a rough framework, a "model subdivision ordinance," around which a county can build a subdivision ordinance tailored to its particular needs and circumstances.

The use of the digital computer in engineering schools, with its ability to produce huge tables of results, soon causes the user to wonder if these results cannot be reduced to graphical form automatically. The equipment described here takes the numerical output of a digital computer on punched paper tape, converts the information on the tape to analog voltages, and uses these voltages to plot a point either on a common camera-equipped oscilloscope or on an available plotting table. This thesis is concerned primarily with determination of statistics for the velocities of propagation of an electromagnetic wave in a dispersive medium. The velocities of propagation are discussed in terms of a plane travelling wave solution of Maxwell's equations obtained using the multiple Laplace transformation and complex inversion integrals. The types of dispersion discussed correspond to a magneto-ionic, electron displacement and polar resonances of the ionosphere and troposphere. The physical nature of the randomness of the dispersive index of refraction is derived from considerations of statistical turbulence theory. Expressions are then obtained for determining the mean, mean square and variance …
