Traffic Signing For Local Areas, Herpicc Feb 1989

Traffic Signing For Local Areas, Herpicc

Indiana Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) Publications

One of the most important responsibilities of local street and highway departments is to provide the driving public with adequate, appropriate signs to permit safe travel over unfamiliar roads. Unfortunately, this responsibility is frequently neglected or, at best, under-emphasized. The most common excuse used to justify this neglect is inadequate funding, which is undoubtedly true. What is equally true, however, is that resurfacing roads and streets is more politically popular than re-signing them, even though resurfacing leads to increased speeds, which in turn can lead to increased accident experience on improperly or inadequately signed facilities.

This brief report is not …

Three-Dimensional Mos Process Development, J. A. Friedrich, G. W. Neudeck Feb 1989

Three-Dimensional Mos Process Development, J. A. Friedrich, G. W. Neudeck

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

A novel MOS technology for three-dimensional integration of electronic circuits on silicon substrates was developed. Selective epitaxial growth and epitaxial lateral overgrowth of monocrystalline silicon over oxidized silicon were employed to create locally restricted silicon-on-insulator device islands. Thin gate oxides were discovered to deteriorate in ambients typically used for selective epitaxial growth. Conditions of general applicability to silicon epitaxy systems were determined under which this deterioration was greatly reduced. Selective epitaxial growth needed to be carried out at low temperatures. However, crystalline defects increase as deposition temperatures are decreased. An exact dependence between the residual moisture content in epitaxial growth …

Searching For Fixed-Length Patterns, R. W. Quong Feb 1989

Searching For Fixed-Length Patterns, R. W. Quong

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

We present an algorithm, RQ for finding all occurrences of a fixed-length pattern, Pi,J?2> * * * »Pp , in a text string, where each p,- can match an arbitrary set of characters. Our algorithm is optimal in that it examines the minimum average number of text characters, which is not necessarily the same as being optimal in running time. This paper answers the question of optimal string searching put forth in [KMP77]. Let a = the alphabet size, P= the length of the string matched by the pattern, T= the length of the text, W= the word size in …

Fish1d 2.1 User’S Manual, M. A. Stettler, P. E. Dodd, M. S. Lundstrom

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

FISH1D is a computer program that solves the one-dimensional Poisson equation for electrostatic Fields In Semiconductor Heterostructures. The program will print or plot the electrostatic potential, electric field, electron and hole densities, dopant density, ionized dopant density, and other quantities of interest versus position at an applied bias voltage (assuming zero current). A capacitance or sheet carrier concentration versus voltage analysis may also be performed. While FISH1D was originally written for the ternary AlxGa1_xAs, it has been modified to simulate CdxHg1_xTe, ZnSe, GexSi1_x, and Si as well, and the program can be readily modified to analyze other semiconductors through the …

Disc: A Method For Dynamic Intelligent Scheduling And Control Of Reconfigurable Parallel Architectures, F. J. Weil, L. H. Jamieson, E. J. Delp Feb 1989

Disc: A Method For Dynamic Intelligent Scheduling And Control Of Reconfigurable Parallel Architectures, F. J. Weil, L. H. Jamieson, E. J. Delp

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

This work studies the use of intelligence-guided control of reconfigurable parallel processing systems. A reconfigurable architecture is one that can be partitioned into several independent virtual parallel machines operating in either SIMD or MIMD mode. Reconfigurable systems, while allowing great flexibility, present many scheduling and control problems. Scheduling tasks on such a system is an exponential time problem. Therefore, in an effort to achieve reduced, task execution time without incurring unacceptable scheduling costs, an expert system is used to apply heuristics to approximate an optimal schedule. When the execution time of a task is not known a priori, conventional scheduling …
