Pavement Drainage And Pavement-Shoulder Joint Evaluation And Rehabilitation, Zubair Ahmed, Thomas D. White, Philippe L. Bourdeau
JTRP Technical Reports
The objectives of this research were i) to evaluate the performance of pavement subdrainage systems ii) study the behavior of moisture conditions below pavements and iii) provide recommendations for unproved drainage criteria based on analysis of field data. Existing and retrofitted subdrainage collector systems were inspected through external visual inspection in combination with a probe for internal inspection. Distresses and deficiencies in construction observed were listed and compiled on video. A methodology for inspection is presented that can be used by highway agencies in monitoring the condition, need for maintenance, and performance of collector systems. Pavements with various types of …

Lyapunov Based Control Of Multiple Flexible Joint Robots In Cooperative Motion, Mohamed Zribi, Shaheen Ahmad
Lyapunov Based Control Of Multiple Flexible Joint Robots In Cooperative Motion, Mohamed Zribi, Shaheen Ahmad
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
In this paper, we address the problem of controlling multiple flexible joint robots manipulating a common load cooperatively. The load position and velocity tracking errors are shown to converge to zero. The internal forces exerted on the load are also shown to converge to their desired trajectories. Asymptotic stability of the system is insured regardless of the joint flexibility and despite the fact that force sensors mounted on the robot wrist are not employed.
A Parallel Implementation Of Backpropagation Neural Network On Maspar Mp-1, Faramarz Valafar, Okan K. Ersoy
A Parallel Implementation Of Backpropagation Neural Network On Maspar Mp-1, Faramarz Valafar, Okan K. Ersoy
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
One of the major issues in using artificial neural networks is reducing the training and the testing times. Parallel processing is the most efficient approach for this purpose. In this paper, we explore the parallel implementation of the backpropagation algorithm with and without hidden layers [4][5] on MasPar MP-I. This implementation is based on the SIMD architecture, and uses a backpropagation model which is more exact theoretically than the serial backpropagation model. This results in a smoother convergence to the solution. Most importantly, the processing time is reduced both theoretically and experimentally by the order of 3000, due to architectural …
Classification Of Multispectral Image Data With Spatial-Temporal Context, Byeungwoo Jeon, David Landgrebe
Classification Of Multispectral Image Data With Spatial-Temporal Context, Byeungwoo Jeon, David Landgrebe
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
Pattern recognition technology has had a very important role in many fields of application including image processing, computer vision, remote sensing, etc. The advent of more powerful sensor systems should enable one to extract far more detailed information than ever before from observed data, but to realize this goal requires the development of concomitant data analysis techniques which can utilize the full potential of the observed data. This report investigates classification using spatial and/or temporal contextual information. Although contextual information has been an important and powerful data analysis clue for the human-analyst, the lack of a good contextual classification scheme …
Collision Free Path Planning For A Planar Revolute Manipulator , Zohreh Erfan, Shaheen Ahmad
Collision Free Path Planning For A Planar Revolute Manipulator , Zohreh Erfan, Shaheen Ahmad
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
In this paper, we address the problem of path planning for a revolute manipulator, operating in a workspace filled with obstacles whose boundaries are enveloped by circle or possibly any other shape. The path planning approach presented here is developed in the manipulator joint space and consists of two strategies. The first strategy is used in tightly packed free spaces located between the workspace obstacles, this approach relies on constrained optimization. The second strategy is used whenever the manipulator is operating in free space regions which are not surrounded by the workspace obstacles, this strategy does not use optimization but …

Characterization Of Dual-Gated Fully-Depleted So1 Mosfets That Utilize Silicon Selective Epitaxial Growth, Suresh Venkatesan, Gerold W. Neudeck
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
Fully-depleted single-gated and dual-gated SOI MOSFETs are fabricated using both Epitaxial Lateral Overgrowth (ELO) and Confined Lateral Selective Epitaxial Growth (CLSEG). SOI MOSFETs and diodes are fabricated in thin (= 1500A) CLSEG films grown in pre-defined 2500A, thick cavities for the first time. In addition to the SOI MOSFETs fabricated using selective epitaxial growth, thin-film SO1 MOSFETs were also fabricated on SIMOX wafers. The one to one comparison between the two SOI technologies proves that the EL0 and CLSEG material is of at least as good if not better quality than that of SIMOX. Effective hole mobilities in the excess …
Design Of Partially Supervised Classifiers For Multispectral Image Data, Byeungwoo Jeon, David Landgrebe
Design Of Partially Supervised Classifiers For Multispectral Image Data, Byeungwoo Jeon, David Landgrebe
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
This report addresses a partially supervised classification problem, especially when the class definition and corresponding training samples are provided a pnori only for just one particular class. In practical applications of pattern classification techniques, a frequently observed characteristic is the heavy, often nearly impossible requirements on representative prior statistical class characteristics of all classes in a given data set. Considering the effort in both time and man-power required to have a well-defined, exhaustive list of classes with a corresponding representative set of training samples, this "partially" supervised capability would be very desirable, assuming adequate classifier performance can be obtained. Two …
