Logic Synthesis For Reliability - An Early Start To Controlling Electromigration And Hot Carrier Effects, Kaushik Roy, Sharat C. Prasad Oct 1993

Logic Synthesis For Reliability - An Early Start To Controlling Electromigration And Hot Carrier Effects, Kaushik Roy, Sharat C. Prasad

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

Designing reliable CMOS chips involve careful circuit design with attention directed to some of the potential reliability problems such as electromigration and hot carrier effects. This paper considers logic synthesis to handle electromigration and hot carrier degradation early in the design. phase. The electromigration and the hot carier effects are est, imated at the gate level using signal activity measure, which is the average number of transitions at circuit nodes. Logic can be optimally synthesized suited for different applications requiring different types of inputs for higher reliability and low silicon area. Results have been obtained for MCNC synthesis benchmark examples.

Novel Techniques For The Detection And Estimation Of Three-Wave Coupling With Application To Human Brain Waves, David Lee Sherman, Michael D. Zoltowski

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

Composite linear and quadratic systems produce three-wave coupling when stimulated by random-phase input sinusoids. Due to the non-linearity of the system the output frequencies are arithmetically related to the input. Using third order cumulant statistics and their associated bispectrum, techniques are devised based on phase-insensitive matrix structures for detection and frequency estimation of coupling frequencies. The separation of the third order cumulant series into symmetric and skew-symmetric portions allows us to exploit their characteristic eigendecompositions for frequency estimation. After symmetrization, biphases can be easily extracted as coefficients of the cumulant sequence. Using a generalized eigenvector representation, we can relate symmetric …

Circuit Optimization By Transistor Reordering For Minimization Of Power Consumption Under Delay Constraint, Sharat C. Prasad, Kaushik Roy Oct 1993

Circuit Optimization By Transistor Reordering For Minimization Of Power Consumption Under Delay Constraint, Sharat C. Prasad, Kaushik Roy

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

In this paper we address the problem of optimization of VLSI circuits to minimize power consumptioin while meeting performance goals. We present a method of estimating power consumptioin of a basic or complex CMOS gate which takes the internal cap, acitances of the gate into account. This method is used to select an ordering of series-connected transistors found in CMOS gates to achieve lower power consumption. The method is very efficient when used by library based design styles. We describe a multi-pass algorithm which makes use of transistor reordering to optimize performance and power consumption of circuits, which has a linear …

The Modeling Of Anisotropic Fuselage Lining Material, Yeon June Kang, J Stuart Bolton Oct 1993

The Modeling Of Anisotropic Fuselage Lining Material, Yeon June Kang, J Stuart Bolton

Publications of the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories

In this paper a theoretical model that can account for the effect of lining anisotropy on sound transmission through fuselage structures is developed. The model allows for anisotropic flow resistivity, tortuosity and elastic moduli. Implicit to the theory is a characteristic dispersion relation of sixth order that yields the allowed wave numbers for wave propagation in anisotropic elastic porous media. In addition, explicit expressions for field variables such as displacements and stresses appropriate for anisotropic foams are derived. Predictions of random incidence sound transmission loss for double panels with anisotropic linings have been performed. To verify the prediction, the theoretical …

Invariant Reconstruct Ion Of Curves And Surfaces Using A First Order Regularization, June Ho Yi, David M. Chelberg Sep 1993

Invariant Reconstruct Ion Of Curves And Surfaces Using A First Order Regularization, June Ho Yi, David M. Chelberg

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

This paper describes the application of a first order regularization technique to the problem of reconstruction of curves and surfaces from sparse data. The reconstruction methods achieve approximate invariance, sharp preservation of discontinuities and are robust to the smoothing parameter A. The robustness property to X allows a free choice of the smoothing parameter X without struggling to determine an optimal X that provides the best reconstrilction. A new approximately invariant first order stabilizing function for surface reconstruction is obtained by employing a first order Taylor expansion of a nonconvex invariant stabilizing function that is expanded at the estimated value …

Optimal Trajectory Planning For Spray Coating, John K. Antonio Sep 1993

Optimal Trajectory Planning For Spray Coating, John K. Antonio

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

The problem of how to optimally traverse a spray applicator around a surface to be coated is formulated as a type of optimization problem known as a constrained variational problem. An optimal trajectory for a spray applicator is defined to be one that results in minimal variation in accumulated film thickness on the surface. The trajectory for an applicator is characterized by a six-dimensional vector function that specifies the position and orientation of the applicator at each instant of time. The surface to be coated is represented with a function. For each surface point and fclr each feasible position and …

An Efficient Method For Computing Volume And Surface Area Over Grid Sampled Surfaces, June Ho Yi, David M. Chelberg Sep 1993

An Efficient Method For Computing Volume And Surface Area Over Grid Sampled Surfaces, June Ho Yi, David M. Chelberg

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

In this paper, we propose the volume between two surfaces normalized by the surface area as an invariant quantitative measure for comparing surface reconstruction results. The invariant property of the volume quantity provides the same measure with respect to an arbitrary coordinate system. By normalizing the volume by the surface area, the values of the measure can be compared for different size of images. We also present a computationally simple and efficient way of computing the volume between two surfaces and the surface area using a least-square-error fit plane approximation of a surface patch defined over a rectangular grid. Experiments …

Constructing Automatic Program Abstractors Of Programming Plans, Eng-Siong Tan, Henry Dietz Sep 1993

Constructing Automatic Program Abstractors Of Programming Plans, Eng-Siong Tan, Henry Dietz

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

Program views are useful aids that can help programmers in understanding aspects of existing programs that they may need to extend or modify. Most views describe detailed information about program components or provide abstractions of relationships between components. Programmers, however, often need abstracted views of delocalized programming plans to understand how various components throughout a program can be interrelated in different ways to achieve specific goals or program effects. This requires the "weaving" together of diverse information sources that current tools do not adequately support. This paper presents a new methodology for automatically abstracting delocalized programming plans from programs, and …
