The Youtube Social Capital - Library Users Finding A Place And Space On Youtube, Lindall Adams Aug 2023

The Youtube Social Capital - Library Users Finding A Place And Space On Youtube, Lindall Adams

Proceedings of the IATUL Conferences

The library is a source of social capital. Several studies have examined how library spaces, services, and programs generate social capital. In this manner, the physical library became the third space, following the first and second spaces of home and work. However, during the global lockdown, the third space closed its doors and redirected its attention to social media platforms. While libraries have been engaged in Web 2.0 endeavours since the early 2000s, maintaining social network presence has not been an option. Libraries were given the opportunity to reengage with social media as a result of the pandemic, and new …

Purdue University Libraries Open Access Publishing Fund

Recent advances in biomaterials and 3D printing/culture methods enable various tissue-engineered tumor models. However, it is still challenging to achieve native tumor-like characteristics due to lower cell density than native tissues and prolonged culture duration for maturation. Here, we report a new method to create tumoroids with a mechanically active tumor-stroma interface at extremely high cell density. This method, named “inkjet-printed morphogenesis” (iPM) of the tumor-stroma interface, is based on a hypothesis that cellular contractile force can significantly remodel the cell-laden polymer matrix to form densely-packed tissue-like constructs. Thus, differential cell-derived compaction of tumor cells and cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) can …

Modeling Of A Flexible Perforated Membrane Backed By Granular Materials, Zhuang Mo, Guochenhao Song, Tongyang Shi, J Stuart Bolton Aug 2023

Modeling Of A Flexible Perforated Membrane Backed By Granular Materials, Zhuang Mo, Guochenhao Song, Tongyang Shi, J Stuart Bolton

Publications of the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories

It has recently been shown that adding activated carbon particles to the interior of a Helmholtz resonator can improve the resonator’s absorption at low frequencies. A similar improvement has been found when a layer of activated carbon partially fills the space behind a finite, tensioned impermeable membrane. In that case, absorption peaks due to the modal response of the tensioned membrane were found to be significantly enhanced in the low frequency range. In the present work, the modeling aspects of the latter work are extended in a number of ways. First, the circular membrane is considered to be both tensioned …

Measurement Of Vapour Pressure, Miscibility And Thermal Conductivity For Binary And Ternary Refrigerant Lubricant Mixtures In The Context Of Heat Pump Tumble Dryers, Katharina Stockel, Ramona Nosbers, Riley Barta, Christiane Thomas

School of Mechanical Engineering Faculty Publications

Household appliances need to be both efficient and cost-effective. As a result, electrically driven tumble dryers were converted to heat pump driven ones several years ago in order to comply with energy directives, in this case in Germany. In order to increase the efficiency of heat pumps of different performance classes, the use of zeotropic refrigerant mixtures can be useful, since the temperature glide during the phase change of the refrigerant mixture can be adapted to the temperature gradients of the secondary fluids. In order to take advantage of this unique property, a refrigerant mixture selection was carried out by …

Structural Vibration Damping By The Use Of Poro-Elastic Layers: A Summary, Yutong Xue, J Stuart Bolton

Publications of the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories

A properly designed limp porous materials such as fibrous layers can provide damping equivalent to conventional viscoelastic dampers while providing advantages such as light weight and effective sound absorption. This then allows porous layers to be used as multi-functional noise and vibration control solutions in automotive and aerospace applications. Further, the addition of bulk elasticity to the solid phase of the porous medium is beneficial since it improves damping performance compared to equivalent limp treatments. In the work summarized here, porous media, such as fibers and foams, were designed to serve as treatments for various vibrating structures to examine their …

Modeling Of Sound Radiation From A Loaded Rolling Tire, Won Hong Choi, J Stuart Bolton Aug 2023

Modeling Of Sound Radiation From A Loaded Rolling Tire, Won Hong Choi, J Stuart Bolton

Publications of the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories

In recent work it has been possible to model the surface vibration of a loaded rolling tire, including the influence of the acoustic mode that forms within the tire cavity. For example, it has been found that the acoustic cavity mode splits owing to the deformation of the tire when it is loaded, and that the split widens owing to Doppler effects when the tire is rolling. It has also been demonstrated that the force at the hub that results from the acoustic cavity mode is strongly dependent on interaction with circumferential structural modes of the treadband. The finite element …
