As a member state of UN, United States also adopted SDGs. However, the United States were not a member of UNESCO during 2017 to 2023. The United States has never submitted any voluntary national review so far, as what has been done by 115 countries across the world. To support SDG 14, this study presents a buoy-based water quality monitoring system designed for cage aquaculture in Penghu, Taiwan. The system floats on the sea, enabling continuous water quality monitoring with real-time location tagging. It consists of three main components: an offshore buoy, an on-site client, and a remote server. The offshore client, controlled by an NI myRIO, integrates various water quality sensors and a GPS module to accurately measure pH, oxidation-reduction potential, dissolved oxygen, total dissolved solids, and conductivity. This study examines the flexibility of detached wooden houses supplied by local builders, which constitute a significant portion of Japan's housing production. Historically, prior to World War II, wooden houses dominated the housing supply in Japan, with standardized modules prevalent nationwide. Moreover, century-old wooden houses, considered local historic assets, continue to be utilized through component replacements, additions, and refurbishments, highlighting the inherent flexibility of Japan's wooden housing system. Despite the postwar rise of reinforced concrete and steel-frame houses, numerous local builders emerged across Japan and retain a substantial presence in the current housing market with wooden houses.

The construction industry is a major contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, with embodied carbon being a key component. This study develops EcoSphere, an innovative software designed to evaluate, and balance embodied and operational carbon emissions with construction and environmental costs in urban planning. Using high-resolution data from the National Structure Inventory, combined with computer vision and natural language processing applied to Google Street View and satellite imagery, EcoSphere categorizes buildings by structural and material characteristics with a bottom-up approach, creating a baseline emissions dataset. Population growth, rising housing costs, and regional disparities are driving a growing demand for new housing. However, buildings contribute approximately 40% of global carbon emissions, necessitating sustainable approaches in construction to mitigate climate impacts. This study evaluates whole life carbon (WLC) emissions in two Helsinki districts, Malminkartano and Kannelmäki as a control area, analyzing 187 buildings constructed between 2001 and 2020. Buildings are grouped by district and construction period into four Housing Portfolios (HPs) to examine trends in embodied and operational carbon emissions over time. Most studies that investigated the automated classification of construction incident reports relied on traditional machine learning approaches, line support vector machines, decision trees, and logistic regression. This research tackles the urgent challenge of reducing carbon emissions within the construction industry, where building materials—especially bricks—play a significant role in global greenhouse gas emissions. Brick manufacturing, in particular, significantly contributes to the industry’s carbon footprint, underscoring the need for decarbonisation strategies. This study examines potential pathways to achieve this by exploring alternative fuel options and assessing their environmental impact using life cycle assessment (LCA). Existing Community Flood Resilience (CFR) frameworks often integrate a range of dimensions to measure flood resilience, but social indicators are often overlooked or neglected due to the challenges involved in gathering information and quantifying these aspects. Traditional ergonomic assessments in construction are limited by subjectivity, intermittent monitoring, and scalability challenges. To address these issues, this study presents a framework integrating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and deep learning-based computer vision for automated ergonomic risk assessment of construction workers. The framework utilizes UAVs to capture aerial footage of workers, enabling continuous monitoring across large and complex sites. Leveraging MediaPipe for pose estimation, the framework detects key body landmarks and calculates joint angles, providing an objective representation of worker postures.
