The Determinants Of Corporate Attractiveness, John Hannon, Yoko Sano
The Determinants Of Corporate Attractiveness, John Hannon, Yoko Sano
Purdue CIBER Working Papers
This study examines the effects of observable organizational characteristics on job seeker attributions of corporate attractiveness in Japan. Data from 11,060 Japanese university students (3,678 seniors specializing in engineering & science and 7,382 seniors majoring in liberal arts) demonstrate that a company's number of employees, an indication of job security and career potential, is related to corporate attractiveness for both groups, as hypothesized. Contrary to what was expected, the age of the firm, a surrogate for reputation and tradition, had no effect on corporate attractivenss for either group. The effects for sales, an indication of size, and profits, an indication …

Department of Botany and Plant Pathology Faculty Publications
More than 300 isolates of the Irish potato famine fungus, Phytopkthora iufesns, colc In 20 countries on five ontits, were analyzed for genetic variation at the mating type and two allozyme loci. A subset of more than 200 islates was also analyzed for DNA "fingerpint" variation. A surprisng result was that a single conal ineage dominated most populaton worldwide. AD of the variation within this loneage appeared to have arisen by mitotic embinat or by mutation. In addItion to the most common cal lineage, a number of diferent, but a rtiy closely related, lineages occurred in the United States and …

An Indot Lessons Learned Constructability Program And Integrated Multimedia System, Bob G. Mccullouch, Robert Michael Patty
JTRP Technical Reports
To improve constructability, experienced design and construction engineers often select processes and develop details that require less labor, equipment, or management resources to build. These innovative ideas, enabling circumstances, and their effect on the construction process are not usually recorded in a reusable format. Without such a mechanism, recalling this experience under the appropriate circumstances, or transferring the technology to new management has generally not happened. Further, civil engineers are generally educated to optimize cost by minimizing the material quantity. Through experience gained after graduation, they are expected to pick up options for engineering impact on the labor, equipment, and …
The Components And Benefits Of An Advanced Surface Arterial Traffic Management System, Ted M. Andrews, Kumares C. Sinha
The Components And Benefits Of An Advanced Surface Arterial Traffic Management System, Ted M. Andrews, Kumares C. Sinha
JTRP Technical Reports
Traffic congestion has become an increasing problem on major surface arterial roadways. Demand for accessibility to adjacent land uses yields increased vehicular turning movement activity at driveways and intersections. As turning and cross-road traffic volumes increase, the need for traffic signalization will eventually be warranted. When numerous, independently operating traffic signals are present on a given arterial roadway, adverse effects can result. First, continous movement along the arterials at a desirable speed may not be assured. Second, vehicular delay will increase because of the slower operating speeds and increased number of stops. Third, safety can be threatened as poor traffic …

Pavement Drainage And Pavement Shoulder Joint Evaluation Numerical Analysis Of Infiltration And Drainage In Pavement Systems, Reynaldo David. Espinoza, Philippe L. Bourdeau, Thomas D. White
JTRP Technical Reports
The continuing loss of pavement performance observed in the U.S. transportation infrastructure system raises the issue of the subdrainage design. Experience with the Indiana highways indicates that the lack of adequa the sub-drainage is probably a major cause of pavement distress. In order to provide highway engineers with a methodology to analyze the water migration and drainage into pavement systems a new numerical model has been developed. The numerical scheme is a finite difference formulation of the equations of water flow in unsaturated porous media. The resulting system of equations used is nonlinear and state-of-the-art numerical techniques have been used …
Toward Virtual Digital Mammograms For Research And Training In Tumor Detection, Charles F. Babbs, Leslie A. Geddes
Toward Virtual Digital Mammograms For Research And Training In Tumor Detection, Charles F. Babbs, Leslie A. Geddes
Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering Faculty Working Papers
Research in the processing, compression, transmission, and interpretation of digital radiographic images requires evaluation of a wide variety of test images, varying in format, in spatial resolution, and in anatomic content. To evaluate the diagnostic performance of observers using novel versus conventional image formats, large numbers of test images containing known abnormalities are required. This report describes a method for creating high resolution, virtual digital mammograms from computational models of the human breast that include branched lobulated ducts and suspensory ligaments embedded in fatty subcutaneous tissue. Breast phantoms may include any of three types of simulated tumors (fibroadenomas, invasive ductal …
Transmission Scheduling Of Multichannel System For Communication Of Pre-Orchestrated Multimedia Information, Miae Woo, Arif Ghafoor
Transmission Scheduling Of Multichannel System For Communication Of Pre-Orchestrated Multimedia Information, Miae Woo, Arif Ghafoor
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
Communication of multimetlia information over broadband networks dictates stringent QOS requirements. In this report, we propose a commnnication model for preorchestrated multimedia information. The proposed model, calletl XOCPN, specifies the performance parameters to handle mnltimedia media. effectively as well as provides resynchronization action to compensate anomalies thle to random delays introduced by the network. The model is used to determine the optimal number of channels needed to transmit the multimedia information. Subsequently, we consider a channel-deficient system having homogeneous channels (i.e. channels with identical characteristics) and prove that scheduling transmission of multimedia data in this system is an NP-hard problem. …
Performance Tradeoffs For Scheduling Pre-Orchestrated Multimedia Information Over Broadband Integrated Networks, Zafar Ali, Arif Ghafoor
Performance Tradeoffs For Scheduling Pre-Orchestrated Multimedia Information Over Broadband Integrated Networks, Zafar Ali, Arif Ghafoor
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
In this report we present a framework for evaluating performance of scheduling preorchestrated multimedia information over broadband integrated networks. We propose a set of Quality Of Presentation (QOP) parameters which quantify the quality of multimedia presentation from user's point of view. The communication of mulltimedia data in a networked environment can affect the desired QOP parameters due to jitter delays in the network. We evaluate trade-offs between QOP parameters and the system resources including channel utilization and buffering at the destination. These trade-offs can be used to develope an optimal transmission schedule for multimedia information.

Novel Techniques For The Detection And Estimation Of Three-Wave Coupling With Application To Human Brain Waves, David Lee Sherman, Michael D. Zoltowski
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
Composite linear and quadratic systems produce three-wave coupling when stimulated by random-phase input sinusoids. Due to the non-linearity of the system the output frequencies are arithmetically related to the input. Using third order cumulant statistics and their associated bispectrum, techniques are devised based on phase-insensitive matrix structures for detection and frequency estimation of coupling frequencies. The separation of the third order cumulant series into symmetric and skew-symmetric portions allows us to exploit their characteristic eigendecompositions for frequency estimation. After symmetrization, biphases can be easily extracted as coefficients of the cumulant sequence. Using a generalized eigenvector representation, we can relate symmetric …
The Modeling Of Anisotropic Fuselage Lining Material, Yeon June Kang, J Stuart Bolton
The Modeling Of Anisotropic Fuselage Lining Material, Yeon June Kang, J Stuart Bolton
Publications of the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories
In this paper a theoretical model that can account for the effect of lining anisotropy on sound transmission through fuselage structures is developed. The model allows for anisotropic flow resistivity, tortuosity and elastic moduli. Implicit to the theory is a characteristic dispersion relation of sixth order that yields the allowed wave numbers for wave propagation in anisotropic elastic porous media. In addition, explicit expressions for field variables such as displacements and stresses appropriate for anisotropic foams are derived. Predictions of random incidence sound transmission loss for double panels with anisotropic linings have been performed. To verify the prediction, the theoretical …
