Strengthening the capabilities of indigenous contractors is crucial for sustainable economic growth and reducing dependence on imported expertise in developing countries. This study analyses stakeholder perspectives on improving contractor capacity and identifies the systemic barriers that lead to higher failure rates. This study employed a qualitative methodology, utilizing semi-structured interviews to gather data from eighteen (18) industrial specialists purposefully selected from contractors, consultants, clients, and funding organizations. Significant findings indicate nine principal themes extracted from interview replies. The study highlights that achieving a holistic training design requires multidimensional delivery to produce a structured learning environment that enhances skill acquisition. The …

Educator preparation programs have an opportunity to help future teachers understand how literacy and mathematics domains support one another. Language and literacy are foundational to mathematical thinking, communication, and problem solving. Integrating science of reading (SOR) principles into mathematics instruction can strengthen children’s learning across domains while helping educators maximize instructional time. This brief reviews research connecting language and mathematics learning and highlights practical strategies for incorporating SOR-aligned practices into early childhood mathematics instruction and teacher preparation.

Many topics in the behavioral sciences and epidemiology require researchers to directly observe entities (e.g., individuals, households) over a long time to identify lasting effects. Long-term panel data collection is more common in high-income countries than in small-scale rural societies (SSRS) of low-income countries. SSRS are mobile, nature-dependent, linguistic minorities, and highly autarkic. Analyzing such data using a life-course perspective can help uncover patterns that align or upend what we know from high-income countries. Many intelligent low-socioeconomic status high school students correctly view STEM majors as a way out of poverty, but the challenges to ultimate success are plentiful. For those who applied but did not initially gain admittance into an engineering department, the Rising Scholars program at Purdue University offered these undergraduates a pathway through college that brought them into contact with a network of professional mentors, including university professors, staff, and graduate students. Program participants were also provided opportunities to engage in team-building activities and teaching seminars that involved writing research papers focused on postgraduate careers. Innovation often transcends the bounds of individual disciplines, yet undergraduate teaching is still largely organized today within single disciplines and respective academic units. Convergence education offers a promising organizational approach to bring transdisciplinary teaching and learning into undergraduate education by aligning institutional structures, pedagogy, and partnerships around meaningful, innovation experiences to address contemporary problems. Meeting the goals of US K–12 science education reform requires that preservice elementary teachers (PSTs) understand engineering as a specialized discipline and a human endeavor that addresses real-world issues. Yet in their formal education, few PSTs receive opportunities to learn about the humanistic dimensions of engineering: engineers’ personal values and motivations, the sociocultural nature of engineering work, and the societal significance of engineering. Stability, controllability, and maneuverability are critical factors for aircraft with short takeoff and landing distances, such as modern fighter aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles. Delta wings are commonly employed in these aircraft due to their efficient aerodynamics, enabling high maneuverability, and performance at both low and high speeds. Nonslender wings are used for low-speed performance and agility, while slender wings offer reduced drag and are suited for high-speed operations. Precollege engineering teachers bring unique backgrounds to their teaching practice. Many follow nontraditional routes to teaching engineering, often coming from teaching other subjects or careers in other fields. Among the many variations influencing engineering teaching practices is pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). This multiple case study explores the PCK of five middle school engineering teachers implementing the same middle school engineering curriculum, STEM innovation and design (STEM-ID). Students’ academic success particularly in mathematics, where early mastery lays the foundation for critical thinking and problem-solving skills, can be directly tied to caregiver engagement (Jeynes, 2012; Epstein, 2018). Algebra by 7th Grade (Ab7G) at Purdue is a Saturday informal STEM counterspace that provides math tutoring and engineering-focused projects to participants in grades 1–10. Students are mentored by Purdue graduate and graduate students. The mentors facilitate mentoring, tutoring, and engineering projects. With intentional teacher facilitation, whole-class conversations can help students refine their engineering reasoning, consider new ideas, and make novel connections between different ways of defining or solving a problem. These conversations can also help students expand their engineering thinking to include perspectives of care and socioethical deliberations. A team of classroom teachers and university researchers has been enacting and studying whole-class engineering design conversations—Design Talks—in first through sixth grade classrooms. Ensuring the robustness of data preprocessing pipelines is essential for maintaining the reliability of machine learning model performance in the face of real-world data shifts. Traditional methods optimize preprocessing sequences for specific datasets but often overlook their vulnerability to future data variations. This research introduces a vulnerability score to quantify the susceptibility of preprocessing components to data shift. We propose a Linear Regression approach to establish a predictive relationship between the vulnerability of the pipeline components and changes in the model’s performance. This study examines college students’ perceptions of AI Teaching Assistants (AITAs) in higher education, focusing on their communication experiences and expectations. Using qualitative data from (n=89) open-ended survey responses, six key themes emerged, spanning differences in information processing, social interaction, and task efficiency. Students appreciated AITAs for their speed, availability, and potential to provide unbiased feedback, yet expressed concerns about accuracy and trustworthiness. While AITAs were seen as approachable for simple or low-stakes inquiries, students emphasized the importance of human instructors for complex, nuanced, or emotional support. Indiana is one of a few states to enact a high stakes literacy test in third grade, the IREAD-3 test. High stakes testing is often a useful way to ensure a particular level of academic proficiency is met to allow students to succeed in a new setting, like college, or leave high school with desired skills. However, the requirement to automatically retain third graders who do not pass the IREAD-3 test without additional information or considerations, is not supported by research (AERA, 2000). This study evaluates the effectiveness of log transformation in enhancing multiple regression models used to forecast air traffic movements (ATMs) in South Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using 60 monthly observations from October 2016 to September 2021, the analysis incorporates variables such as revenue, lockdown levels, COVID-19 metrics, exchange rates, gross domestic product, and population. Two models are compared: one using raw ATMs and another with log-transformed ATMs as the dependent variable.

This study investigates the integration of an Advanced Qualification Program (AQP)-centered approach into aviation higher education, aiming to refine assessment methods and enhance the educational experience of future aviation professionals. Guided by research questions exploring the strengths, limitations, key characteristics, and potential improvements of AQP-centered assessments, the study reveals a strong consensus among students and faculty. The AQP model, traditionally an alternative to conventional pilot training under 14 CFR Parts 121 and 135, offers a structured, industry-relevant framework emphasizing clear evaluation processes, multilevel knowledge and skill assessments, and high academic performance. Buffer capacity measures the ability of a system to maintain its original function when confronted with outside stresses and is often considered to be a key component of resilience. Farmers in southeastern Ontario are facing several threats such as seasonal drought and volatile markets, prompting necessary responses on how to effectively manage their farms. This study investigates the efficacy of oral examinations as an alternative assessment method in college algebra courses, focusing on their impact on student retention of mathematical concepts. Through a comparative analysis of two groups, one undergoing traditional assessment and the other receiving oral examinations, this research explores both quantitative assessment scores and qualitative feedback. While quantitative analysis reveals no significant difference in summative assessment performance between the two groups, qualitative data highlights the benefits of oral examinations, including immediate feedback, enhanced critical thinking, and holistic evaluation of student capabilities. This study explores how six education faculty members in the School of Education at a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in the southeastern United States interpret and implement instructional technology instruction through a hermeneutic theoretical lens. Grounded in the HBCU’s School of Education vision statement, the research investigates how faculty members’ understanding of human learning behaviors shapes their pedagogical choices within School of Education courses.
