The construction sector contributes significantly to global energy consumption, carbon emissions, and freshwater depletion. Addressing these pressing challenges requires the development of sustainable and energy-efficient building designs. However, this task is complex due to the interdependencies within the energy-carbon-water nexus of buildings. This study introduces an innovative genetic framework employing a multi-objective optimization approach that integrates EnergyPlus with extensive databases on embodied energy, carbon emissions, and embodied water. At first glance, this seems not to be a significant change for academics, who, even in regular times, are used to performing their research activities autonomously and balancing on-campus and off-campus locations. Recruiting and retaining students from underrepresented populations, such as female students, is challenging for construction programs at higher education institutions. This paper discusses how outreach activities have successfully been used to build a sense of community and belonging for female students in a baccalaureate construction management program at a four-year higher education institution. Activities from the outreach program, ideas for funding sources, challenges and lesson learned, and recommendations for developing similar outreach programs will be highlighted in the article that could be incorporated at other institutions.

AI workflows in geospatial data science offer significant societal benefits but raise ethical, transparency, and reproducibility challenges. Current ethical frameworks and tools are often hard to integrate into daily research practice. This paper introduces the I-GUIDE Data Ethics Toolkit (DET), a lightweight suite designed for users of the NSF-funded Institute for Geospatial Understanding through an Integrative Discovery Environment (I-GUIDE). Based on a longitudinal mixed-methods study, including surveys, interviews, and observations, we identified five design priorities: usability, anticipatory planning, distributed responsibility, comprehensive coverage, and policy compliance. This paper examines the limitations of current evaluation metrics in GeoAI. Through two case studies on deep learning models—a building detection classification problem and a remote sensing image fusion regression problem—this paper demonstrates how traditional statistical evaluation matrices alone can be misleading in geospatial problems. The findings indicate that traditional metrics (e.g., RMSE, MAE) used in current GeoAI models can have difficulty capturing the spatial dimensions inherent to geospatial problems. CyberGIS-Compute is a geospatial middleware tool designed to lower technical barriers to High-Performance Computing (HPC) resources. This study investigates the variance in brightness temperature (BT) within simulated satellite footprints for Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSSE), focusing specifically on Channels 5 and 11 of the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit (AMSU-A). High-resolution atmospheric simulations from the DYnamics of the Atmospheric general circulation Modeled On Non-hydrostatic Domains (DYAMOND) dataset were utilized to generate brightness temperature data using the Python interface for the Community Radiative Transfer Model (PyCRTM).
