Geotechnical Performance Of Highway Embankment Constructed Using Waste Foundry Sand, Patrick J. Fox, David G. Mast
Geotechnical Performance Of Highway Embankment Constructed Using Waste Foundry Sand, Patrick J. Fox, David G. Mast
JTRP Technical Reports
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of waste foundry sand (WFS) as a highway embankment material in a fullscale field demonstration project. This evaluation included geotechnical concerns, such as deformation, strength, hydraulic conductivity, and ease of construction. The report presents an introduction and previous research concerning WFS use in highway construction. A geotechnical laboratory testing program characterized the WFS used in the project, which was a waste product of Auburn Foundry, Inc., located in Auburn, Indiana. This study was also a part of the FHWA Priorities Technology Program. The project site was a 275 m section …

Implementation Of Subgrade Resilient Modulus For Pavement: Laboratory Procedures Manual (2 Volumes), A. G. Altschaeffl, Ross A. Duckworth, M. K. Clough
JTRP Technical Reports
This Implementation Project had two purposes: 1) to update the INDOT Division of Materials and Tests’ laboratory equipment and train personnel to properly conduct the testing for subgrade resilient modulus in accordance with new AASHTO testing protocol (AASHTO T0294-94(; 2) to educate and train the geotechnical engineering section in the procedures for determining the design resilient modulus with minimum required testing, while using the database of the previous report on this subject, FHWA/IN/JHRP-92/23, “Subgrade Resilient Modulus for Pavement Design and Evaluation,” Part I of the Final Report, the detailed “Laboratory Procedures Manual,” has been written for use by laboratory technicians …

MUSE CSP (Multiply SEgmented Constraint Satisfaction Problem) [5, 61 is an extension to the constraint satisfaction problem (CSP) which is especially useful for problems that segment into riultiple instances of CSP that share variables. In Belzerman and Harper [6], the concepts of MUSE node, arc, and path consistency were defined and algorithms for MUSE arc consistency, MUSE AC-1, and MUSE path consistency were developed. MUSE AC-1 is similar to the CSP arc consistency algorithm AC-4 [ l j ] . Recently, Bessikre developed a new algorithm, AC-6 [I], which has the same worst-case running time as AC-4 and is faster …

Posteriori Probability Estimation And Pattern Classification With Hadamard Transformed Neural Networks, Peter G. Gulden, Okan Ersoy
Posteriori Probability Estimation And Pattern Classification With Hadamard Transformed Neural Networks, Peter G. Gulden, Okan Ersoy
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
Neural networks, trained with the backpropagation algorithm have: been applied to various classification problems. For linearly separable and nonseparahle problems, they have been shown to approximate the a posteriori probability of an input vector X belonging to a specific class C. In order to achieve high accuracy, large training data sets have to be used. For a small number of input dimensions, the accuracy of estimation was inferior to estimates using the Parzen density estimation. In this thesis, we propose two new techniques, lowering the mean square estimation error drastically and achieving better classification. In the past, t:he desired output …

On The Qualitative Behavior Of Impurity-Based Splitting Rules I: The Minima-Free Property, Craig W. Codrington, Carla E. Brodley
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
We show that all strictly convex n impurity measures lead to splits at boundary points, and furthermore show that certain rational splitting rules, notably the information gain ratio, also have this property. A slightly weaker result is shown to hold for impurity measures that are only convex n, such as Inaccuracy.

The Applicability Of Idd Waveform Analysis To Testing Of Cmos Circuits, Hendrawan Soeleman, Dinesh Somasekhar, Kaushik Roy
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
This paper describes a test method which relies on the actual observation of supply current (I,,) waveforms. The method can be used to supplement the standard IDDe test method because it can 15e easily applied to dynamic logic circuits. The method allows us to detect faults which may not be detected by IDDe methods, and is sensitive enough to detect potential faults, which do not manifest themselves as functional errors. A simple built-in current sensol; which prove to be adequate in verifying the feasibility of using the ID, waveforms anczlysis to try to detect faults in CMOS circuits, is proposed …
