Automating Material Delivery Records, Joo Hyoung (Jay) Lee, Bob Mccullouch
JTRP Technical Reports
This project investigated methods on automating field data collection of materials. The method chosen and investigated was bar codes. The automated process requires material suppliers to produce delivery forms that can be recorded and tracked using bar codes. The report describes a system configuration that shows a conceptual process to electronically transfer materials information between the material supplier, trucking company, INDOT personnel and contractor. Other activities reported include survey results from other state transportation agencies, material suppliers, and concrete paving companies. Also, investigated was how to interface with SiteManager software. Recommendations described hardware options for using bar codes and industry …

Alternatives To Fuel Tax: A State Level Perspective, Jungeun (Jen) Oh, Kumares C. Sinha
Alternatives To Fuel Tax: A State Level Perspective, Jungeun (Jen) Oh, Kumares C. Sinha
JTRP Technical Reports
Under the current fuel-tax-based highway financing system, the funding gap between highway needs and revenue available is expected to grow as vehicle fuel economy improves and use of alternative fuels increases. Consequently, the highway financing mechanism needs to be restructured or a different financing strategy undertaken. Previous research provided examples of successful implementation of pricing schemes in terms of design of pricing scheme, technology issues, legal and institutional issues, and public acceptability. Synthesizing this information, a methodological framework was established for evaluation of alternative user charging schemes. Based on the assessment of the current and projected highway revenue and the …

Recent data have revealed that epigenetic alterations, including DNA methylation and chromatin structure changes, are among the earliest molecular abnormalities to occur during tumorigenesis. The inherent thermodynamic stability of cytosine methylation and the apparent high specificity of the alterations for disease may accelerate the development of powerful molecular diagnostics for cancer. We report a genome-wide analysis of DNA methylation alterations in breast cancer. The approach efficiently identified a large collection of novel differentially DNA methylated loci (~200), a subset of which was independently validated across a panel of over 230 clinical samples. The differential cytosine methylation events were independent of …
Practical Defenses Against Bgp Prefix Hijacking, Zheng Zhang, Ying Zhang, Y. Charlie Hu
Practical Defenses Against Bgp Prefix Hijacking, Zheng Zhang, Ying Zhang, Y. Charlie Hu
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
Prefix hijacking, a misbehavior in which a misconfigured or malicious BGP router originates an IP prefix that the router does not own, is becoming an increasingly serious security problem on the Internet. In this paper, we conduct a first comprehensive study on incrementally deployable mitigation solutions against prefix hijacking. We first propose a novel reactive detection-assisted solution based on the idea of bogus route purging and valid route promotion. Our simulations based on realistic settings show that purging bogus routes at 20 highest-degree ASes reduces the polluted portion of the Internet by a random prefix hijack from 50% down to …

Sendorcomm: An Energy-Efficient Priority-Driven Communication Layer For Reliable Wireless Sensor Networks, Vinaitheerthan Sundaram, Jae-Woo Lee, Saurabh Bagchi, Yung-Hsiang Lu, Zhiyuan Li
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
In many reliable Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) applications, messages have different priorities depending on urgency or importance. For example, a message reporting the failure of all nodes in a region is more important than that for a single node. Moreover, traffic can be bursty in nature, such as when a correlated error is reported by multiple nodes running identical code. Current communication layers in WSNs lack efficient support for these two requirements. We present a priority-driven communication layer, called SeNDORComm, that schedules transmission of packets driven by application-specified priority, buffers and packs multiple messages in a packet, and honors latency …

A Context Aware Content Based Federated Access Control System For Healthcare Domain, Haseeb Amjad
A Context Aware Content Based Federated Access Control System For Healthcare Domain, Haseeb Amjad
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Masters Theses
Legislation to create electronic healthcare records and provide electronic healthcare services requires the same level of privacy and disclosure regulations as are applicable to the current practices for paper based patient health records. Most of work in this area has been organization-oriented that deals with exchange of information among healthcare organizations (such as referrals). However, the requirements for ensuring security and privacy of information for online access and sharing of health records in a federated healthcare environment have not been adequately addressed. To address this problem, we have developed a context-aware content-based access control policy specification framework, known as Generalized …
Intra-Level Incomplete Bypassing: Achieving Performance And Power Efficiency, Eric P. Villasenor
Intra-Level Incomplete Bypassing: Achieving Performance And Power Efficiency, Eric P. Villasenor
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Masters Theses
Researchers have proposed clustered microarchitectures to capture the benefits of high performance and high energy efficiency. Typically, clustered microarchitectures offer fast local bypasses (i.e., value forwarding between instructions) within clusters and require global bypasses to take longer, more than one cycle. With communication locality (i.e., most communication is within the clusters) the clustered designs capture the benefits of both improved instructions per cycle and increased clock-frequency. Traditional clustered microarchitectures are implemented by partitioning the register file and associated functional units to clusters. In this work, an alternate technique is demonstrated -- Incomplete bypassing -- to achieve similar clustering. Incomplete bypass …
Reputation-Based Resilient Data Aggregation In Sensor Network, Carlos R. Perez
Reputation-Based Resilient Data Aggregation In Sensor Network, Carlos R. Perez
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Masters Theses
Data aggregation, or the fusing of many sensor measurements into a single summary, has been proposed as an important primitive in wireless sensor networks. But data aggregation is vulnerable to security attacks and natural failures where a few nodes can drastically alter the result of the aggregation by reporting erroneous data. In this thesis we present RDAS, a robust data aggregation protocol that uses a reputation-based approach to identify and isolate malicious nodes in a sensor network. RDAS is based on a hierarchical clustering arrangement of nodes, where a cluster head analyzes data from the cluster nodes to determine the …
Volumetric Visualization Of Nexrad Level Ii Doppler Weather Data From Multiple Sites, Yi Ru
Volumetric Visualization Of Nexrad Level Ii Doppler Weather Data From Multiple Sites, Yi Ru
Purdue Polytechnic Masters Theses
Weather visualization is critical for operational forecasters and weather researchers to analyze, monitor, and predict severe weather events such as storms, tornadoes, and hurricanes. Usually measured weather datasets such as NEXRAD Level II radar data contain some errors and have temporal aliasing issues, so that the raw data cannot represent the true meteorological patterns. Existing weather visualization packages usually ignore these problems, thus they fail to unveil some detailed information and cannot meet the needs of professional meteorologists. Most displays generated by those packages are limited to 2D images, 3D point clouds, or iso-surfaces. Those displays are not able to …
Impeding And Facilitating Factors In The Implementation Of Lean Enterprise Methodology, Brian S. Leonard
Impeding And Facilitating Factors In The Implementation Of Lean Enterprise Methodology, Brian S. Leonard
Purdue Polytechnic Masters Theses
The field of lean enterprise has continued to grow since being introduced by the Toyota Corporation after World War II. In academia lean strategies are being introduced in order to prepare students for this new era in operating procedures. Currently, the majority of research in business and academia is focused on processes and methodology, but leadership strategies are yet to be fully examined.
According to Hamilton (2006) there are insufficient resources and research that contribute to understanding successful implementation strategies. Hamilton (2006) expresses concern of the lack of focus on leadership strategies and employee development in lean enterprise.
This qualitative …
