The Identification Of The Inorganic Components In The Calcareous Corpuscles From Mesocestoides Corti, Larry M. Kegley
The Identification Of The Inorganic Components In The Calcareous Corpuscles From Mesocestoides Corti, Larry M. Kegley
Dissertations and Theses
The inorganic components in calcareous corpuscles from Mesocestoides corti have been identified by use of powder x-ray diffraction and emission spectroscopy. Difference methods were compared for the isolation of the calcareous corpuscles from the residual tissue of the Mesocestoides corti. Previously reported and newly developed methods for the isolation are discussed.
Analyses by powder x-ray diffraction for in vivo samples which had been heated at various temperatures ranging from room temperature to 1000°C are reported.
The qualitative emission spectrographic analyses for in vivo and in vitro corpuscles are reported for normal systems and systems designed to study the ion …
Bacterial Degradation Of Methyl Dehydroabietate, Burl C. Carter
Bacterial Degradation Of Methyl Dehydroabietate, Burl C. Carter
Dissertations and Theses
Bacteria (Arthrobacter sp.), isolated from lodgepole pine (Pinus contortus), are capable of utilizing methyl dehydroabietate as the sole source of carbon. Degradation products of methyl dehydroabietate have been obtained by manually extracting the cell-free supernatant solution of a liquid growth medium with methylene chloride. Gas chromatography (G. L. C.) was used for separation of the neutral products. The acid products were converted to their methyl esters diazomethane and then separated by gas chromatography. Structures have been proposed for two G. L. C. fractions (V, II) on the basis of infrared (I.R.) and mass spectral (M. S.) data. …
The Development Of A Clay Body With Compatible Glaze Formulae, Nancy Travers
The Development Of A Clay Body With Compatible Glaze Formulae, Nancy Travers
Dissertations and Theses
There are two aims in this thesis: the first is to ascertain something of the physical and chemical properties of clay and glazes and how to handle and control them. A project such as the development of a clay body and glaze formulae serves to isolate the various functions of the materials and give a clear understanding as to their use and potentials. This enables one to visualize and manipulate materials creatively with a reliable prediction as to their behavior. Spencer Moseley in Art Education supports this, saying: "The quality of a man’s production depends upon (1) the idea, the …

Theoretical Calculations Of Kinetic Isotope Effects, Paul Chien-Wei Chang
Theoretical Calculations Of Kinetic Isotope Effects, Paul Chien-Wei Chang
Dissertations and Theses
Treating the activated complex for unimolecular dissociation as uncoupled fragments simplifies the calculation of transition-state frequencies in the quasi-equilibrium-theory formulation of an isotopic rate-constant ratio. The general method is applied to the specific case of the intramolecular kinetic isotope effect in decarboxylation of malonic acid. The fragment models are further simplified by means of the “cut-off” approximation of Sterm and Wolfsberg. These model calculations are in agreement with the presently available experimental results. Applicability to reactions involving simultaneous multiple bond rupture or formation is noted.

Computer Graphics In Macromolecular Chemistry, Cyrus Levinthal, David Barry, Stephen Ward, Martin Zwick
Computer Graphics In Macromolecular Chemistry, Cyrus Levinthal, David Barry, Stephen Ward, Martin Zwick
Complex Systems Faculty Publications and Presentations
In this presentation, the possible role of computer graphics in macromolecular chemistry is demonstrated by reference to a molecular model building program running on a computer with a graphics console. The program was developed to pursue studies in protein configurations. A description of the program is given together with examples of the display produced.
The Ion-Exchange Chromatographic Separation Of The Components Of The Product Mixture Resulting From Reaction Of Trans-Dichlorobis (Ethylenediamine) Cobalt (Iii) Chloride With Thiocyanate Ion, William Trew Jordan
Dissertations and Theses
The object of the research was to study, by means of ion-exchange chromatography, the product mixture resulting from reaction of trans-[Co(en)2Cl2]Cl and SCN-. Cis-and trans-[Co(en)2(NCS)Cl]Cl had previously been obtained as products of this reaction. However, the possibility of the presence of other products consistent with the nature of the reactants could not be dismissed. These include the dichlora, dithiocyanato, and aqua complexes.
The constituents of the solution resulting from the reaction were separated on a column of Dowex 50W-X8 resin by elution with hydrochloric acid. The eluted fractions were evaporated at room …

A Scale Of Verbal Accessibility In Marriage, Barbara F. Kresse
A Scale Of Verbal Accessibility In Marriage, Barbara F. Kresse
Dissertations and Theses
The purpose of this project was to develop a tool to clarify one concept of verbal interaction in marriage. This concept, Verbal Accessibility, was developed by Norman Polansky and defined as the degree of readiness of the individual to communicate verbally and to participate in communication about his determinant attitudes. Verbal Accessibility is dependent on two variables: l) the enduring characteristics of the individual, and 2) the release of inhibiting factors in a given situation.
In order to facilitate the use of this concept in treatment, a scale was needed to measure Verbal Accessibility of both the person and of …

Development Of A Tool To Measure Applicability Of The General Systems Theory To Generic Social Work, Richard L. Decristoforo
Development Of A Tool To Measure Applicability Of The General Systems Theory To Generic Social Work, Richard L. Decristoforo
Dissertations and Theses
The goal of this project was to test the applicability of the General Systems Theory to the traditionally held concept of generic social work. If an applicability existed, a direct survey of the field would be feasible. This could lead to the development of a general or a core conceptualization of social work practice.
General Systems Theory was extended to include the properties of the open organismic human group system. There were twenty-one categories at this level of abstraction. Internal consistency of the General Systems Theory model was tested and related to social work treatment concepts. To do this, 427 …
Extracurricular Activities In Secondary Schools Of Washington County, Oregon, Alan R. Martin
Extracurricular Activities In Secondary Schools Of Washington County, Oregon, Alan R. Martin
Dissertations and Theses
The objectives of this study were to, (1) review the opinions of contemporary American educators regarding activity programs in our secondary schools; (2) investigate the activity programs currently provided in the junior and senior high schools in Washington County, Oregon; and (3) offer some suggestions based upon this information. The literature in this field, although somewhat limited, except for periodicals, acquainted the reader with the general area and provided a basis for the review and study of the present practices in Washington County.
The data concerning the practices in the schools studied was obtained through a questionnaire which was personally …
