Job Satisfaction Of Administrators In A Public Suburban School District, Linda Cartier Borquist
Job Satisfaction Of Administrators In A Public Suburban School District, Linda Cartier Borquist
Dissertations and Theses
The two research questions of the study were: (1) Is the job satisfaction of school district administrators related to the personal factors of group membership and sex? (2) What are the sources of overall job satisfaction? Do they confirm findings from previous studies in which autonomy, responsibility, the work itself, growth, recognition, feedback, achievement, and interpersonal relationships were found to be major contributors to job satisfaction? Utilizing the Job Diagnostic Survey (JDS) developed by Hackman and Oldham and free response questions, ratings of job satisfaction were obtained to determine if sex and group membership (elementary principal, secondary principal and vice …

Values Of Oregon Community College Faculty In Selected Instructional Areas, John Francis Bohan
Dissertations and Theses
The following question was investigated for each of several biographical variables: Are there significant differences in the work values, as measured by the Ohio Work Values Inventory (OWVI), and personal values (terminal and instrumental), as measured by the Rokeach Value Survey (RVS), of instructors in Oregon community colleges? Comparisons were made by job status (part-time/full-time), teaching assignment, sex, number of years teaching, age, degree held, other employment of instructor, geographic location of college, and vocational certificate held. A multivariate ANOVA (followed by univariate ANOVAs and Modified LSDs as needed) was performed separately on the OWVI scales, the RVS Terminal Values, …
Purification And Characterization Of Fumarate Reductase From Methanobacterium Thermoautotrophicum, Sanjay S. Khandekar
Purification And Characterization Of Fumarate Reductase From Methanobacterium Thermoautotrophicum, Sanjay S. Khandekar
Dissertations and Theses
Anaerobic fermentation has been an established technology ever since man started treating sewage. Recently this process has received increased attention because of its inherent ability to produce methane gas, which apart from solar energy, is the cleanest, most non-polluting source of energy. Methanobacterium thermoautotrophicum, a thermophilic bacterium, grows on CO(,2) as a source of carbon as well as electron acceptor, using hydrogen as an electron donor. Labeling studies carried out with ('14)C have shown a presence of partial reductive TCA cycle. In this work, the enzyme fumarate reductase, which belongs to this cycle, has been purified to homogeneity using various …

Effects Of Infection By Dwarf Mistletoe (Arceuthobium Americanum) On The Population Dynamics Of Lodgepole Pine (Pinus Contorta), James Leo Wanner
Dissertations and Theses
Dwarf mistletoes are Parasitic flowering plants that infect conifer tree species. The effects of Arceuthobium americanum on the seed crop of Pinus contorta were examined over a two year period to evaluate the effects of altered host reproductive success on host population dynamics. Heavily infected trees produced significantly fewer cones than uninfected trees during the first season in which cones were collected. Cone length, number of seeds per cone, individual seed mass, and total calories per seed were significantly reduced in moderately and heavily infected trees. Trees with different levels of infection showed trends consistent with the above but no …

A Multidimensional Analysis Of Physical Attractiveness In The Formation Of First Impressions, Jewel Marianna Smith Hunter
A Multidimensional Analysis Of Physical Attractiveness In The Formation Of First Impressions, Jewel Marianna Smith Hunter
Dissertations and Theses
Before any words are spoken, an individual's appearance is his or her first line of nonverbal communication with the rest of the world. Prior research conducted on physical attractiveness has been vague and contradictory and has not assessed its many components. Rather, past investigators have perceived physical attractiveness as a "unidimensional" concept.
Several phases were involved in the task of proving or disproving the hypotheses of the study. The first general phase began with the selection of photographic subjects, progressed into the creation of a set of photographs which were to become the stimuli, and proceeded to the selection of …
The Mobilization Of The Gay Liberation Movement, Ramom De Souza Torrecilha
The Mobilization Of The Gay Liberation Movement, Ramom De Souza Torrecilha
Dissertations and Theses
This thesis examines the development and evolution of the gay movement. It raises the questions as to why the gay movement was not organized prior to the 1960's. The study starts in the 1940's and ends in 1970. It employs qualitative research methods for the collection and analysis of primary and secondary data sources. Blumer's description of general and specific social movements and Resource Mobilization Theory were used as theoretical frames of reference. The former explained the developmental stages in the career of the movement and the latter focused on the behavior of movement organizations.

Producer Cooperatives And Industrial Democracy: A Comparative Study Of The Performance Of Cooperative And Conventional Plywood Plants, Youssef Khodaparast
Producer Cooperatives And Industrial Democracy: A Comparative Study Of The Performance Of Cooperative And Conventional Plywood Plants, Youssef Khodaparast
Dissertations and Theses
Widely differing theoretical expectations exist concerning the economic performance of labor-managed firms or producer cooperatives (PCs). While a good number of theoretical studies of these firms by economists have been undertaken, there remain considerable gaps in the empirical record. This is especially true in the case of American PCs. In general, theoretical controversies have not been tempered by enough empirical analysis. While some expect good performance from PCs, others are much less sanguine. This study compares the economic performance of a group of eight worker-owned producer co-op plants with that of eight conventional mills in the Pacific Northwest softwood plywood …

The Spirituality Of Pierre De BéRulle, Steven Percy Poitra
The Spirituality Of Pierre De BéRulle, Steven Percy Poitra
Dissertations and Theses
The sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries witnessed a revival of spirituality throughout Europe. Positive theology emerged as both an instigation to and instrument for Christian humanists in their endeavor to redress the Church's fundamental relationship to the laity.
The early efforts for reform in France were discouraged by Gallicanist sympathies. Further, growing numbers of Calvinists combined with the possibility of a Protestant king led to thirty-five years of sporadic civil war.
From the 1580's and 90's, French spirituality began a period of renewal and growth. At the heart of the French experience was the famous Acarie circle among whose members …

There are at least 41 networks linking school districts, institutions of higher education, and Educational Service Districts in both rural and urban areas of the state. These networks, collaboratives, and consortia have the common purpose of improving education, and the belief that they can accomplish more cooperatively than they can individually. These networks are described in terms of purposes, benefits and problems, and desire for assistance. Comparisons showed that large school districts are much more likely to …
Enhanced Computer Graphics For Decision Makers, Floyd James Brock Jr.
Enhanced Computer Graphics For Decision Makers, Floyd James Brock Jr.
Dissertations and Theses
Words need a context to be understood. Visual patterns also need a context to convey their meaning. When patterns represent quantities in business graphics, decision makers (DMs) depend on contrasting visual contexts to discern patterns and discover relationships. Depending on the context in which DMs see trends, differences between two trends may point to a problem, to continuity, or to an opportunity. Can enhancing the context in computer graphics help DMs visualize problems? To answer this research question, three experiments were done in the field on computer graphics. One hundred five DMs tried 17 different contexts for time-series trends displayed …

Determinants Of The Variations In The Presence Of The Subfamily In U.S. Metropolitan Areas, 1980, John Ossaiedeme Umude
Dissertations and Theses
Over the years there has been interest in the living arrangements of Americans and the factors which influence those arrangements. Researchers have considered the growth of families headed by women, household consisting of single individuals, and those composed of unrelated individuals. One area, however, on which little attention has been focused is the presence of extended family living, characterized by the subfamily. The aim of this dissertation is to establish if subfamilies are a random or systematic phenomenon, and to identify the factors responsible for the variations in its occurrences within and across U.S. metropolitan areas. A causal model which …
