Four basic …

The Design And Evaluation Of A Community Development Model For A Comprehensive Community College, Lynn R. Brink

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

The purpose of this developmental study was to design and evaluate a community development model for North Lake College, a suburban campus of the seven member Dallas County Community College District. This was in response to the mandate of the District that each campus include community development in its strategic planning and evaluation. The model addressed the lack of a systematic method of assessment and, when implemented, enabled the college to effectively monitor changing demographics, diverse populations and trends, and to make appropriate action plans in response to these changes.

The model design was based on the concept of a …

The Influence Of Socio-Economic Class On Scores On The College-Level Academic Skills Test When Prior Academic Achievement Is Controlled., Harry T. Albertson

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

Students enrolled in Florida public colleges and universities are required to pass a test of college-level communication and computation skills (the CLAST) prior to receiving an Associate in Arts Degree or entering the junior year. Evidence from a variety of studies, however, seems to indicate that students from low socio-economic strata perform less well academically, and especially on standardized tests such as the CLAST, than do students from average to above average socio-economic strata. If this evidence is marginally representative of true population proclivities, lower socio-economic students in Florida are at a disadvantage in terms of completing a four-year degree. …

The Use Of Improvisation And Mapping To Teach A Dramatic Text, Denise Veronica Aloma May 1987

The Use Of Improvisation And Mapping To Teach A Dramatic Text, Denise Veronica Aloma

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

The majority of ninth grade students indicated a strong negative attitude toward the study of Shakespearean drama. The same students had difficulty comprehending the Shakespearean language, understanding the plot and characters and recalling important information in the play. The degree of difficulty which these students exhibited was indicated by the best average grades earned on a comprehensive pretest of the play, Merchant of Venice, by William Shakespeare. The teaching strategy used to correct the problem was script-based improvisation and mapping. This strategy involved much activity and utilization of all the senses. Students were involved both as actors and spectators. Recall …

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

Within the governance of Malcom X College as an educational institution, the Dietetic Technology (DT)-Nutrition program underwent an intensive audit in order to identify its strengths and weaknesses as a program and make corresponding changes as needed for the benefit of the students and the college as a whole.
