Little was known about the value of computer assisted instruction (CAl) for entry-level physical therapy (PT) education. Factors that affect implementation and use of CAl in entry-level PT education had not been identified. Because of this paucity of information, decision-making about the implementation and use of CAl in entry-level PT education had been hampered.
This study used mail questionnaire survey methods to find:
- The extent of use of computer-assisted instruction (CAl) in entry-level physical therapy (PT) education.
- The perceived value of CAl compared to more traditional instructional methods for entry-level PT education.

Revitalizing The Mathematics Program To Improve Student Achievement For First Through Sixth Grade Students, William J. Zipparo

This report describes a program for improving mathematics achievement and test scores of first-through-sixth-grade students for the specific purpose of obtaining a predetermined state score level on the mathematics subtest of the Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills annual achievement test. Original problem evidence became apparent after the review of the district’s tasting results for students from 1988-89 school year. The Maurica River Township Board of Education voiced concern over the fact that the district students' mathematics achievement level was either below or just slightly above that of the Stata's minimum level of proficiency in mathematics.

This report explains a program for decreasing obesity of mentally retarded adults served by a mental retardation service center in a southern rural community. Problems originally noticed included enormous body weights of clients, obesity-related diseases, a lack of exercise programming, and failure to participate in Special Olympics.
An analysis of the clients' Individual Physical Data Bases revealed body weights 20X or more over the average for a person's age, build, sex, and height. According to the client medical reports, 50% of the obese clients suffered from medical disorders created by their obesity. A review of the Individual Service Plans indicated …

Improving The Physical Fitness Of Fourth Grade Elementary Students, Marguerite D. Durr

This report describes the development of a pilot elementary school physical fitness program using six fourth graders as the targeted students. Extensive analysis of available programs was undertaken to determine the appropriate physical fitness program to use for the pilot program. The program selected was the Physical Best, American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERO). Surveys were used to determine student perceptions, student knowledge, and teacher observations/perceptions of their students. The results of the surveys agreed with research and resulted in the 4th grade (147 students) being chosen to start the program.

The problem for this eight-month practicum was that there were 30 intermediate students who had adverse feelings for writing. The problem was documented as a result of responses to a writing survey by Donato (1990). The survey was administered to a group of 71 students. The highest possible score was 30. Ten students from each grade level (third, fourth and fifth) with the lowest scores completed the practicum activities.

This practicum focused upon the design and implementation of a body Image improvement program for severely emotionally disturbed (SED), latency-aged girls. Seven latency-aged girls In a self-contained, SED program participated one time per week In Individual art therapy and group sessions. The program Incorporated therapeutic art activities with verbal Interactions and utilized human growth films, cooperative learning techniques, and child care personnel from outside agencies.
The writer developed a therapeutic program designed to address concerns and problems encountered by latency-aged girls and especially those whose developmental progress has been hampered by both abuse and emotional handicapping conditions. Major Issues addressed …

This practicum addressed the problem that school clinicians were unaware of the variety of behavior rating scales that help In the diagnosis of ADD/ADHD and other disorders that often coexist. The writer's goal was to provide a process to Introduce behavior rating scales to 73 school clinicians from 21 school districts to aid in identifying ADD/ADHO children and differentiate coexisting disorders.

Edison Community College, Fort Myers, Florida, has experienced difficulty in the area of grade, inflation, comparable to other institutions. institutional and academic division policy changes on grading have resulted in changes in grading practices. One purpose of this project was to examine these changes and historic trends in grade inflation with multi-sectioned courses of the Division of Basic Science and Mathematics for academic year 1979-1980 through academic year 1989-1990. This practicum was designed to improve the ability of instructional practices in a preschool special education program. The major goal was to offer teachers strategies for systematic and consistent planning in order to produce optimal learning conditions in five preschool special education classtes. The objectives were to improve the classroom environments, to improve planning for small and large group interactions and to develop methods of individualizing to meet the wholistic needs of each child.

The aim for this practicum was to increase parent, child, and caregiver satisfaction with the site’s extended day care program through training of caregivers and development of appropriate activities. Two groups participated, one for preschoolers through first graders, the other for second through fifth graders.
Three training sessions designed to improve the caregivers’ understanding of the school’s philosophy and goals, basic developmental characteristics of children in the various age groups, and a strategy for effective disciplinary action were implemented. Helping Dysfunctional Recovering Drug-Addicted Mothers To Build Healthy Families By Enhancing Parenting Skills And Providing Opportunities For Bonding, Nan Kelly Wilson

This practicum was designed to enhance the parenting skills of drug-addicted recovering women and to give opportunities for successful family experiences in a half-way house setting.
The writer developed a curriculum, led weekly group meetings, arranged for guest speakers, assisted mothers with individual problems, and administered an evaluation. The Walker Problem Behavior Identification Checklist (1983) and the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting Workshop (Dinkmeyer & McKay, 1989) were used.
Results were positive. Recovering mothers completed parenting course activities, participated in weekly family experiences to develop bonding, and reported feelings of higher value as parents. Children’s scores on the Walker Problem …
