Improving Intermediate Mathematics Problem Solving Scores Through Specific Instruction And Self-Evaluative Techniques, Charlotte K. Tilles Nov 1984

Improving Intermediate Mathematics Problem Solving Scores Through Specific Instruction And Self-Evaluative Techniques, Charlotte K. Tilles

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

The author defined a deficiency in test scores in an a fifth grade setting that consisted of above-average intelligent students and devised a treatment to remediate the targeted students. The objectives were to improve test scores; improve affective behaviors; improve basic skills knowledge; improve the concept of word problems involving money; and to increase instruction in mathematical vocabulary.

The researcher defined a target group by using a pretest. The target group worked within the heterogeneous fifth grade classroom setting. Small discussion groups were defined within the setting for the purpose of peer interaction within the discipline pf problem solving. Large …

Molecular Genetic Characterization Of The Rd-114 Gene Family Of Endogenous Feline Retroviral Sequences, Roger H. Reeves, Stephen J. O'Brien Oct 1984

Molecular Genetic Characterization Of The Rd-114 Gene Family Of Endogenous Feline Retroviral Sequences, Roger H. Reeves, Stephen J. O'Brien

Biology Faculty Articles

RD-114 is a replication-competent, xenotropic retrovirus which is homologous to a family of moderately repetitive DNA sequences present at ca. 20 copies in the normal cellular genome of domestic cats. To examine the extent and character of genomic divergence of the RD-114 gene family as well as to assess their positional association within the cat genome, we have prepared a series of molecular clones of endogenous RD-114 DNA segments from a genomic library of cat cellular DNA. Their restriction endonuclease maps were compared with each other as well as to that of the prototype-inducible RD-114 which was molecularly cloned from …

Skeletal Extension, Density And Calcification Of The Reef Coral, Montastrea Annularis: St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Richard E. Dodge, Garrett W. Brass Mar 1984

Skeletal Extension, Density And Calcification Of The Reef Coral, Montastrea Annularis: St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Richard E. Dodge, Garrett W. Brass

Marine & Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles

Parameters of the annual and subannual skeletal growth of 61 Montastrea annularis corals, collected at a variety of shallow depth sites on reefs of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, are determined by X-radiography and scanning densitometry for each year in the 10-year period, 1970–1979. Extension (linear growth) of the coral skeleton is correlated negatively with bulk density (mass per unit volume) and positively with calcification (mass addition). Density and mass are slightly positively correlated. No one parameter, however, is a perfect predictor of another. At least two parameters, from which the third can be calculated, are required for complete description …

Were The Luddites Necessarily Wrong?: A Note On The Constitutionality Of The "New Technology Bill Of Rights"*, Arthur S. Miller

Nova Law Review

There is a war on, but only one side is armed: this is the essence

of the technology question today. On the one side is private

capital, scientized and subsidized, mobile and global, and now

heavily armed with military-spawned command, control, and communication

technologies.

The Shrinking Of The Fourth Amendment Umbrella: Oliver V. United States, Vickie Popkin Kligerman

Nova Law Review

Recently the United States Supreme Court was called upon to determine

the size of the fourth amendment umbrella. In Oliver v. United

States,' the Court was asked whether a search warrant was required,

"for the search of a highly secluded field from which the public is excluded

when a reasonable expectation of privacy can be shown to exist

in that field.

Nonviolent Protest And Third Party Public Opinion: A Study Of The June 1978, Seabrook, New Hampshire, Antinuclear Power Protest, Neil H. Katz, John P. Hunt

Conflict Resolution Studies Faculty Book and Book Chapters

Political protest and nonviolent struggle have had a long history in the United States, dating back to colonial times. During the nineteenth century, nonviolence was associated with such causes as abolition, temperance, antimilitarism, and women's suffrage. More recently, the nonviolent tactics and strategies used in the civil rights and antiwar movements of the 1950s and 1960s spawned similar activity on a diverse array of issues, including urban poverty, Native American rights, welfare reform, homosexuality, women's rights, and environmental pollution. Although many of these movements have been chronicled and protest has been recognized as an effective method for influencing political and …

Technology, Labor Interests And The Law: Some Fundamental Points And Problems, Warren J. Samuels, A. Allan Schmid, James D. Shaffer, Robert A. Solo, Stephen A. Woodbury

Nova Law Review

The symposium of which this essay is a part deals with technology

and law with particular reference to the interests of workers. Perhaps

needless to say but nonetheless important, each of the three topics-

technology, law and worker interests-has had a long history of

controversy about factual or positive and normative considerations.
