Teaching Esol To Adult Competencies, Gary A. Davis
Teaching Esol To Adult Competencies, Gary A. Davis
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
The author developed and implemented a program using adult based competencies in the ESOL classroom. A control group was taught the same grammatical skills by traditional methods without including adult-based competencies. The author's purpose was to see whether the group taught with techniques which included adult competencies would master each skill better than the control group. Thus, a conclusion could be reached that teaching to adult competencies affects learning performance in a positive way.
The basic steps of the program were to identify the problem; set the objectives; plan the activities on a daily schedule; evaluate the results; and formulate …

The Causes Of Student Absenteeism In Community College Classes, Lynn E. Mccutcheon
The Causes Of Student Absenteeism In Community College Classes, Lynn E. Mccutcheon
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
One of the biggest problems facing professors in the Social Science Division at the Annandale Campus of Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) is poor classroom attendance on the part of some student. When students miss classes they often miss important announcements that impact directly on their grades, as well as learning experiences that are obviously grade-related. Furthermore, the cumulative effect of a combination of missed classes and low grades caused by absenteeism contributes to dropping out of college. One purpose of this MARP was to determine the causes and measure the relative contribution of each cause to the problem of …

Strategies For Socialization Of Learning Disabled Students At The Secondary Level, Verden T. Smith
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
Learning disabled students at the secondary level have inferior socialization skills with peer groups and poor self-perceptual skills. Studies indicate that socialization appears to be the keystone of adolescent development. Evaluative instruments employed to discern interpersonal and socialization skills were the IPAT-Anxiety Scale Questionnaire Test-Self-Analysis Form (Cattell, Krug, Scheier) and the Self-Inventory (Simon-Howe-Kirschenbaum). Peer Counseling, observations, filmstrips and guest speakers were utilized to implement this socialization. skills program. Results indicated improved self-esteem, increased communication with peer groups and more positive attitudes toward self and others. (Appendices include sample instruments and student data.)

The mammalian protooncogene homologue of the avian v-ets sequence from the E26 retrovirus consists of two sequentially distinct domains located on different chromosomes. Using somatic cell hybrid panels, we have mapped the mammalian homologue of the 5' v-ets-domain to chromosome 11 (ETS1) in man, to chromosome 9 (Ets-1) in mouse, and to chromosome D1 (ETS1) in the domestic cat. The mammalian homologue of the 3' v-ets domain was similarly mapped to human chromosome 21 (ETS2), to mouse chromosome 16 (Ets-2), and to feline chromosome C2 (ETS2). …
