Many busy clinicians, however, do not have the time to read the many clinical practice guidelines available for a variety of disease and preventive Interventions. An easily accessible packet of information to promote implementation of the PHS Clinical Practice Guideline Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence was piloted In the fall of 2001. The purpose of this applied dissertation proposal was to integrate concept mapping into the accounting curriculum at Towson University. The problem was the need for innovative teaching pedagogies and learning tools that explicitly support the development of accounting students' complex thinking skills. These issues were perceived as essential elements for future accounting education and critical needs for future accounting professionals.

This applied dissertation was designed to provide mechanisms to reduce time required for online course development. The project involved several components, including preparation and implementation of an online training course for instructor new to online teaching. The course was designed to allow instructors to iv experience online learning from the perspective of a student. The course focused on identifying and improving skills related to online course authoring and teaching. Additional activities related to this project included measurement of the impact of instructor training on student success.

As part of their student teaching practicums, student teachers learn the skill of self-reflection in the self-assessment process. Lima Technical College specializes in offering career technical education programs in business, engineering, health technologies, and human services. Because of the emphasis on technical education, the strategic plan of the college has identified the use of technology in the classroom as an important teaching methodology since 1992.

In 1997 a Nursing Computer Learning Resource Laboratory (NCLRL) was established 2 for nursing students at Contra Costa College (CCC) by the nursing faculty to serve as a resource to help support the students in their studies. Prior to the establishment of the NCLRL the nursing program did not have computer equipment or nursing software available for student use. Changes in the regulations for paramedic education have recently been adopted (DOT HS 808 862 National Standard Paramedic Curriculum, 1998). The Crafton Hills College Paramedic program is required to meet these regulations, and as a requirement of the regulations, document the attainment of the required competencies to achieve paramedic course completion. This report describes a program that was implemented to ensure an orderly and safe learning environment at a rural elementary school with a student population of approximately 285. An informal assessment of the school building and grounds revealed that the students were exposed to an unsafe and insecure school environment.
Planned solution strategies included (a) a school safety assessment, (b) an updated school safety plan, (c) a safety initiative team, (d) student and teacher safety training, and (e) the purchase of basic school safety equipment. This report describ.es a program to ameliorate the cycle of teenage pregnancy among Black females in a suburban high school, thereby decreasing the dropout rate of these at-risk students. The younger siblings of childbearing teens were the targeted population for the pregnancy prevention program. Twenty at-risk siblings in Grades 9 through 12 participated in this program. An analysis of a survey conducted by the guidance department and the teenage parenting program indicated that 31% of the students at the targeted high school became teenage parents and eventually dropped out of school before graduating.

This study examines strategies and techniques intended to update 5th-grade target students’ reading skills at Our Lady of Victory (OLV) Catholic School. A comparative analysis of the reading comprehension subtest results from the Stanford Achievement Test of successive cohorts of OLV 4th-grade students showed a decline during the students’ 4th-grade year. An effort to identity this decline in performance led the researcher to possible factors: teacher quality and degree of parental involvement. This report describes an intervention in a Catholic, college preparatory junior-senior high school of 700 students designed to help students connect with other members of the school community and with God.
A survey of the 553 students in Grades 7 through 11 was administered in May 2000 to determine whether students were experiencing a lack of connection to the school community and to God that would warrant intervention. This applied dissertation was designed to infuse state mandated technology standards into the curriculum of a small university accredited to grant teaching certification. The state recently revised its requirements for the entire credential process. In doing so, they developed a much more demanding set of technology standards than those currently in place in the program. This new set of requirements included not only specific standards to be met by the credential candidate, but required the faculty to model these standards in their traditional face-to-face classes. The goal was to effectively implement these new standards.

A portfolio evaluation tool had been created by undergraduate nursing faculty at Old Dominion University School of Nursing to enable student portfolios to be used as an adjunct method of program evaluation. While the tool was previously judged to have face validity and high inter-rater reliability, the lack of evidence to show that portfolio scores were comparable to other measures of academic performance used to determine the attainment of program outcomes was a problem.
