Experiencing The First Year Of Covid-19 Pandemic: Feelings And Thoughts Of Emerging Adults, Miljana Spasić Šnele Phd, Ivana Janković Phd, Jelisaveta Todorović Phd

The Qualitative Report

COVID-19 brought many changes in the daily functioning of many individuals, including emerging adults, due to social distancing, stay-at-home orders, and the closure of public institutions, thus representing a threat to physical and mental health. We investigated how emerging adults felt regarding their experience during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. We were also interested in what they had been thinking about in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic one year after its declaration. To answer these questions, we conducted a qualitative study. The participants included 51 students aged 19 to 28 years old. Conducting thematic analysis six themes related …

Mantra Meditation For Chronically Impaired Attention After Stroke: A Trial Using Single-Case Experimental Design, Cheryl Carrico, Dana Howell, John A. Patterson, Richard D. Andreatta, Camille Skubik-Peplaski

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Purpose: Impaired attention after stroke is a common problem for which rehabilitation would potentially be indicated. Systematic review evidence has revealed a lack of high-quality research that supports the effectiveness of standard-of-care cognitive rehabilitation for sustained attention, alertness, and functional impact on daily life after stroke. Standard-of-care cognitive rehabilitation does not include meditation. Meditation has been defined in contemporary scientific literature as a regime entailing voluntary self-regulation of attention. As such, meditation could potentially improve attention in keeping with tenets of neuroplasticity. The present study investigated whether mantra meditation would benefit attention for adults with chronically impaired attention after right-hemisphere …

The Effect Of Occupational Therapy Intervention Based On A Multicontext Approach In A Patient With Traumatic Brain Injury: A Case Study, Medine Nur Özata Değerli, Yusuf İslam Değerli, Selen Aydöner

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

After traumatic brain injury, individuals often experience a variety of cognitive problems. Executive function skills are usually affected, including planning, motivation, multitasking, flexible thinking, performance monitoring, memory, self-awareness, and error detection and correction. Problems in executive function skills can lead to reduced performance of instrumental activities of daily living and dependence on others for these activities in individuals with traumatic brain injury. The multicontext approach is a framework built on the combination of remedial and compensatory techniques that focuses on generalizing learning transfer in cognitive rehabilitation. This study examined the effect of an 8-week multicontext occupational therapy intervention on cognitive …
