This project focuses on the use of chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) bathing for patients with invasive lines and post-surgical patients. The purpose of this project was to find if CHG bathing is an effective solution to reducing infection risk. This project shows the research behind CHG bathing and how it can be used for these specific patient populations and reduces healthcare-acquired infections. CHG bathing has been shown to dramatically reduce infections.

Nitrous oxide is widely used in the United States, but is still limited in our area. Nitrous oxide used during labor is a way for mothers to avoid adverse effects that other forms of pain management can cause. Nitrous oxide is used to increase pain tolerance for laboring mothers, and has also been proven to reduce anxiety. Nitrous oxide has limited adverse effects on the mother and no know adverse effects to the fetus. If a side effect is caused by nitrous oxide, the effects will wear off almost immediately after discontinuation of use. It also is more cost effective …

This paper aims to analyze how fans of sports teams develop an active and strong community over an extended period, the personal connection each fan develops in their sense of identity as it relates to a sports team, and how branding impacts both identity and community within a team environment and fan interactions. Using affective agenda-setting theory, self-categorization theory, and social identity theory, this paper will support the belief that a strong connection exists between self-identity and sports teams' branding and messaging themes. The last several years have seen large increases in white-tailed deer populations across the United States. Many studies have analyzed the effects that white-tailed deer have on different ecosystems. However, little to no studies have analyzed the effects of white-tailed deer on the production of industrial hemp fiber. In this study, we examined two different varieties of hemp fiber crops, and the impact white-tailed deer may have on their production. My art weaves together personal experiences and cultural heritage through drawings, paintings, and sculptures. Each piece tells a story about family, identity, and Indonesian roots, inviting viewers to engage with moments of joy, growth, and reflection. I draw inspiration from childhood memories, family traditions, and cultural symbolism, using bright colors and playful imagery to evoke emotions ranging from happiness to introspection. By sharing these personal narratives, I hope to encourage others to reflect on their own stories and connections.

Duvin Mine Explosion

Patricia "Trisha" Green provides a second hand account of the Duvin Mine explosion on July 14, 1939 at Providence, Kentucky. She received information of the disaster through her mother whose brother-in-law Carl "Big Boy" Holloman Jr., had perished in the mine explosion. She describes the rescue efforts and the impact that the disaster had on her family along with the community of Providence. She also explores aspects of the unionization of the miners, mining scripts or "flickers", safety concerns, and racial issues.

Duvin Mine Explosion

Douglas H. Cates provides a firsthand account of the Duvin Mine explosion that occurred on July 14, 1939 in Providence, Kentucky. The disaster killed twenty eight miners and left ten wounded. He describes the conditions faced by coal miners in central Kentucky in the first half of the twentieth century. Cates details various aspects of coal mining life, including the company stores, “flickers”, accident compensation, wages and comradely among miners. He concludes by describing various events related to the unionization of the coal miners in the 1930s.

International Journal of Regional Issues in the Arts

This article draws critical attention to strengths and needs within the arts ecosystem of Columbus, Ohio. Relying on interviews and focus groups with artists and arts leaders, we establish three themes as the most prevalent and cross-cutting among artists and arts leaders: needs for community building, paid work, and space. Based on these stated needs, we identify two aspects of the arts ecosystem in Columbus: launchpad and homebase, neither of which fully support artistic careers. We argue that with investment will also come the opportunity to develop a stronger ecosystem that allows artists to live, work, and thrive in Columbus.

My work consists of various explorations across different media and prompts. At Murray State University, numerous opportunities have been provided to experiment with media such as painting, ceramics, woodworking, and more.

Inspired by artists like Ian Basset, known for creating clay forms that explore diverse glaze patterns, my work often incorporates exaggerated details and intricate forms. A recent example includes a series I made that experimented with different clay forms and combinations of different glazes to create unique bowls that serve as a functional piece as well as a sculptural piece.

The archaeology of the southern Gulf lowlands of Veracruz, Mexico is notable for its research pertaining to the Olmec culture (Jaime-Riveron 2016; Loughlin 2012; Pool 2006). The region was home to the Colossal Olmec Heads: large, easily identifiable sculptures crafted from the volcanic rock of the Tuxtlas Volcanic Field. The use of volcanic resources in such grand presentations may instill a bias in the research of some archaeologists, but it is important to consider how these and other volcanic resources might have been used in everyday life (e.g., Jaime-Riveron 2016: 86). This project will seek to identify gaps in pre-service teacher education as it relates to appropriate instructional strategies for English Language Learners (ELLs). First, public and private liberal arts schools of higher education in Kentucky will be analyzed for relevant programs and courses addressing the needs of ELLs and research-driven instructional techniques used to educate them. It will be determined that many of the schools offer undergraduate or graduate level endorsements and certificate programs, but only one, Murray State University, offers an undergraduate degree-bearing program. Homonegativity (i.e., prejudiced attitudes towards sexual minorities, Morrison et al., 1999) is associated with stricter gender roles (Basow & Johnson, 2000; Tornello & Matsick, 2020) mainly in men, and is less understood in women (Bosson et al., 2009; Vandello et al., 2008). This study investigates how cisgender individuals’ self-perceptions and self-concepts of gender roles relate to homonegativity. We hypothesized that men would have greater homonegativity than women, and that greater socially-expected gender role expression would predict homonegativity in both genders. ESG, Environmental, Social, Governance, is a new business philosophy that asserts that businesses have a duty to the environment, their communities, and to act legally and ethically. ESG rating agencies are built around grading public companies on their fulfillment of these objectives. Critics of ESG cite that ESG dilutes the primary purpose of business, to create value for shareholders. This paper uses regression analysis to test whether these perspectives are mutually exclusive.
