Effective Communication Skills For Healthcare Workers, Marlena Lovone Shaw 5597883
Effective Communication Skills For Healthcare Workers, Marlena Lovone Shaw 5597883
Integrated Studies
Abstract
It is imperative for managers to know how to communicate with both patients and employees in a proper manner. Most patients have limited understanding of healthcare terms and “layman’s” terms must be used in order for them to understand the messages that you are trying to get across to them. While speaking to the office staff, however, it is important to be able to use proper medical terminology including medical billing terminology. That helps the staff quickly understand without the long explanations that patients sometimes need. When communicating with patients it is very important whether through direct or indirect …

All patients have the right to be an advocate for their own healthcare; however, most patients in today’s society abuse that right by delving from professional medical advice given per their healthcare provider. It is imperative that self-diagnosis and self-treatment do not undermine healthcare professionals and do not replace the medical treatment advice given to incite healing. Do-it-yourself healthcare has become increasingly popular in the last decade due largely in part to rising healthcare costs. While having negative implications on modern society, the articles explored illustrate how do-it-yourself healthcare has given rise to a new era of chaos proving that …

This paper will explore the various types of stress college students face, as well as the psychological, physical, and social effects of these stressors on students. The struggle that students face dealing with an overwhelming amount of stress can be difficult and take a toll on individuals during their collegiate academic career. Coccia, & Darling, (2016) studied how general life, love and social interaction could cause stress on college students. College students deal with stress in different, personal ways, and many studies have considered the individual coping methods used by students. Self-medication is one common tactic for stress coping. Integrated Studies
Abstract
This paper will describe the purpose of emergency departments and how they have become overcrowded, overused, the problems associated with the overcrowding and the new strategies that have been put into place to lower the amount of emergency department visits. About half of reported emergency department visits are normally considered non-urgent and because of this, millions, if not billions of dollars are wasted. Overuse of emergency departments become overcrowded, and those in dire need of emergency care may have to be rerouted or have longer wait times if no beds are available.
Overuse of Emergency Departments not only effects …

Play is an essential part of child development. Children learn about their world through playing. If children had one job, play would be it. Children are social beings and desire interaction and communication. When children play, they can learn about themselves as well as others. Through play, children are able to learn to regulate their emotions, interact with peers, teachers, and their environment. Play enables children to expand their attention span and to enhance intrinsic motivation. Play is a meaningful part of child development because it allows children to grow in all areas of development. This enhances their ability to …

Contemporary Rural Social Work Journal
This study explores rural Midwestern attitudes (N = 126) toward 21 government benefit programs. Findings indicated that there were substantial differences between male and female respondents with male respondents believing that means-tested government benefits were too generous by almost a full standard deviation (d = .90) in comparison with female respondents. Entitlement programs were also deemed too generous, but by a lesser effect (d = .67). No gender differences were noted for farm programs. Linear regression explained 23.3% of the variance in attitudes toward mean-tested programs, 20.8% for entitlement programs, but only 8.1% for farm-related programs. Findings …

The theoretical basis of this teaching pedagogy combines infusion methodology with experiential learning. The infusion method addresses two areas which faculty specifically wanted to include: critical thinking and problem-solving skills. A comparable project by Young, Lee and Kovacs (2016) also used experiential learning and stated, “university student engagement in service-learning type activities has been shown to have an impact on students’ beliefs, attitudes, and values, particularly related to working with older adults”. (p. 2) As a measurement of explicit curricula and core competencies, the students developed a portfolio with content prescribed to meet CSWE EPAS 1-9. The portfolio may also …

Essential healthcare is a civil right. Payments toward healthcare is a moral compulsion, and no less strong than legal compulsion like income tax. Healthcare payments can redistribute disposable income. Redistribution may be vertical (from rich to poor or opposite) and horizontal (from men to women or from households without children to households with children). Health planners are interested in degrees to which redistribution occurs. In this paper, we aim to analyze how well different forms of healthcare payments in Bangladesh redistribute disposable income. Our data comes from Bangladesh Household Income and Expenditure Survey, 2010. Using the methods developed by Aronson …
The Relationship Between Social Anxiety And Conforming Behavior In A Computerized Task, Jeremy Vargas
The Relationship Between Social Anxiety And Conforming Behavior In A Computerized Task, Jeremy Vargas
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
This study assessed the relationship between social anxiety symptoms and conforming behavior in both ambiguous and unambiguous computerized context. The majority of the participants for the sample consisted of Caucasian (78%) females (71%) who completed the task entirely (N = 94). Measures of the Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN) were used to assess social anxiety, while a computer mediated problem-solving task was used to assess conforming behavior. It was hypothesized that conforming behavior would be greater in the ambiguous context compared to the unambiguous context; and that social anxiety scores would be correlated with higher conforming behavior. While a Wilcoxon …

Preferences Of Self-Help Books And Their Presumed Credibility In The College Population, Morgan V. Wild Ms.
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
Self-help books are utilized as a cost-effective way of reducing psychological or emotional difficulties. Many self-help books target various types of mental health distress, and are easily accessed by the public. As of 2016, Americans spent 2.7 billion dollars on general self-help approaches, including self-help books (Nahin, Barnes, and Stussman, 2016). The present study seeks to investigate potential clients’ preferences of self-help books and their associated credibility. This study expands the work of Redding, Herbert, Forman, and Gaudiano (2008) who rated and examined the psychological properties of 50 bestselling self-help books published from the late 1990’s to 2005. The current …

Abstract
Addiction can be defined as a repetitive use of a substance or drug that occurs despite any negative outcomes associated with its use. Substance use addiction affects many different areas of an individual’s life, and is often associated with stigma which can result in shame, secrecy, or rejection. There are many theoretical models behind the etiology and maintenance of substance use addiction that include biological, sociological, physiological, and other factors. This investigation examines college-aged individuals’ beliefs about which theoretical model best explains substance use addiction, and if those beliefs can be manipulated when presented with new or opposing information. …

Imposter Phenomenon: Distinct Construct Or Achievement-Related Affective Experience?, Meghan R. Wilke
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
Imposter Phenomenon (IP), also known as Imposter Syndrome, is an internal experience that has been observed to occur in high achieving individuals. These individuals do not believe their achievements are due to their own abilities or hard-work: They credit external sources such as luck, errors in admissions or grading, or fooling others as the reason for any successes. IP has been observed in many populations including college professors, medical, dental, nursing and pharmacy students, librarians with graduate degrees, and other successful professionals. Previous research has found that individuals who experience IP may also experience fear of failure, fear of negative …

Flower Meanings: Are They Relevant Today?, Dakota R. Moore
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
This qualitative study sought to describe contemporary views of ten selected flower specimens regarding the feelings they evoke in thirty participants divided evenly across three generations: Baby Boomers, Generation X, and Millennial. Little research exists in the scholarly body of knowledge regarding definitions of flowers; however, industry publications have captured some traditionally held definitions of some flowers. This phenomenological study utilized participants in the three generations of interest by showing each participant photos of ten selected cut flower specimens and asking them five questions about the emotions evoked by each flower, how they would feel if they received each flower, …
