Using Subdivision Surface Technique To Solve Generalized Debye Sources Based Efie, Xin Fu, Li (Lijun) Jun Jiang, Jie Li, Balasubramaniam Shanker Oct 2017

Using Subdivision Surface Technique To Solve Generalized Debye Sources Based Efie, Xin Fu, Li (Lijun) Jun Jiang, Jie Li, Balasubramaniam Shanker

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

In this work, we extend the idea of generalized Debye sources (GDS) method to electric field integral equation (EFIE) and establish a new well-conditioned GDS-EFIE. The principal challenge in implementing this approach arises from the difficulty in developing a robust solver for the surface Laplacian equation. In this paper, we propose using subdivision surfaces that permits such a solution due to the higher order continuous nature of the surface representation. This permits an efficient and effective solution. Thus, GDS-EFIE can be resolved within isogeometric analysis framework as an emerging approach for design-through-analysis. Several numerical results are provided to validate the …

A High Impedance Surface Based Leaky-Wave Antenna Excited By Collimated Surface-Wave, Zi Long Ma, Chi Hou Chan, Kung Bo Ng, Li (Lijun) Jun Jiang

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

This paper presents a high impedance surface (HIS) based leaky-wave antenna excited by collimated surface-wave (SW). The proposed antenna consists of a novel SW launcher (SWL) and a carefully designed HIS structure. The SWL employs a substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) based 2-D offset-fed parabolic reflector and can efficiently generate collimated SW with TM0 mode. On the other hand, the HIS structure is formed by a periodically arranged rectangular microstrip patch array. With the perturbation of the patches, leaky-wave radiation with m=-1 space harmonic mode can be excited. Furthermore, an additional secondary slit is properly designed in each unit cell in the …

Fully Differential Study Of Dissociative Single Capture And Coulomb Explosion Through Double Capture In P+ H2 Collisions, B. R. Lamichhane, Ahmad Hasan, T. Arthanayaka, M. Dhital, K. Koirala, T. Voss, R. A. Lomsadze, Michael Schulz Oct 2017

Fully Differential Study Of Dissociative Single Capture And Coulomb Explosion Through Double Capture In P+ H2 Collisions, B. R. Lamichhane, Ahmad Hasan, T. Arthanayaka, M. Dhital, K. Koirala, T. Voss, R. A. Lomsadze, Michael Schulz

Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works

We have measured fully differential cross sections for dissociative single capture and Coulomb explosion through double capture in 75 keV p+H2 collisions. Data were analyzed for fixed kinetic energy releases and molecular orientations as a function of scattering angle. Two-center interference was identified for dissociative single capture. The interference pattern is not inconsistent with the symmetry of the dissociative electronic state affecting the phase angle of the interference term. No clear signatures of single-center interference were observed for either process. For double capture at most only a very weak two-center interference structure was found. This very small (or zero) visibility …

Customizing Metadata Fields And Using The Content Inventory Report To Manage Digital Commons, Nancy S. Krost Oct 2017

Customizing Metadata Fields And Using The Content Inventory Report To Manage Digital Commons, Nancy S. Krost

Digital Commons - Heartland User Group + IR Day

In Scholars’ Mine, we have heavily customized the metadata in our series, event communities, journals and galleries. This allows us to more easily track the content in our IR, discover errors, find opportunities to make the IR more robust, and run statistics.

The Content Inventory report is an incredibly useful tool in managing Digital Commons because it combines data across series rather that our having to export each series, adjust the metadata fields and then combine them. One example of this is our faculty works which are deposited in departments and filtered into a Faculty Research and Creative Works collection. …

Digital Commons - Heartland User Group + IR Day

The goal of the SHARE initiative, a partnership between the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) and the Center for Open Science (COS), is to build a “free, open, data set about research and scholarly activities across their life cycle.” As of August 2017, 161 repositories and publishers have made metadata available to SHARE for harvesting, and the aggregated data set is available for searching. Many metadata providers are institutional repositories utilizing the bepress Digital Commons platform whose metadata is harvested through the OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) protocol for repository interoperability. A group of Digital Commons repository …

Digital Commons - Heartland User Group + IR Day

Institutional digital repositories provide open access to research outputs created within a university or research institution. Many institutions currently support open access by paying article processing charges (APC) for their affiliated faculty and researchers. The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Libraries started the Open Access (OA) Fund program in 2014 to help cover the APC of tenure-track UNO authors. The fundamental goals of the UNO OA Fund is to include and encourage the UNO community to publish their research in an OA journal and platform, DigitalCommons@UNO (http://digitalcommons.unomaha.edu/).

This poster focuses on sharing the OA Fund management and …

Digital Commons - Heartland User Group + IR Day

In this presentation, how the University of Missouri-St. Louis Institutional Repository Library is using a combination of Zotero, Google Apps and Sherpa Romeo to discover faculty works that can be shared, will be examined. Automagical is defined by dictionary.com as an adjective describing something that is "happening in a way that is hidden from or not understood by the user, and in that sense, apparently "magical." "The automagical aspects of this process will be explored, but not so deeply as to make them non-magical.

Digital Commons - Heartland User Group + IR Day

Like many institutions, Forsyth Digital Collections presents their content on more than one platform. Since the acquisition of Digital Commons and the launch of the FHSU Scholars Repository in January 2016, there has been an institutional effort to determine which platform is best suited to displaying existing content. Beginning in 2009, the FHSU Reveille Yearbooks collection had been hosted in CONTENTdm. The user experience for this collection left much to be desired. In 2014 additional effort was put into improving the user experience in CONTENTdm for this collection. However, in the spring of 2017 it was determined that the Reveille …

Benzophenone-3 (also known as BP-3 or oxybenzone) is added to sunscreens, plastics, and some coatings to filter UV radiation. The suspected endocrine disruptor BP-3 has been detected in the air and settled dust of homes and is expected to redistribute from its original sources to other indoor compartments, including clothing. Given its physical and chemical properties, we hypothesized that dermal uptake from clothing could contribute to the body burden of this compound. First, cotton shirts were exposed to air at an elevated concentration of BP-3 for 32 days; the final air concentration was 4.4 μg/m3. Next, three participants wore the …

Biological Sciences Faculty Research & Creative Works

Although patients with primary insomnia experience sleep disruption, they are able to maintain normal performance on a variety of cognitive tasks. This observation suggests that insomnia may be a condition where predisposing factors simultaneously increase the risk for insomnia and also mitigate against the deleterious consequences of waking. To gain insight into processes that might regulate sleep and buffer neuronal circuits during sleep loss, we manipulated three genes, fat facet (faf), highwire (hiw) and the GABA receptor Resistance to dieldrin (Rdl), that were differentially modulated in a Drosophila model of insomnia. Our results indicate …

Engineering Management and Systems Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Reducing the global diseases burden requires effective diagnosis and treatment. In the developing world, accurate diagnosis can be the most expensive and time-consuming aspect of health care. Healthcare cost can, however, be reduced by use of affordable rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs). In the developed world, low-cost RDTs are being developed in many research laboratories; however, they are not being equally adopted in the developing countries. This disconnect points to a gap in the design philosophy, where parameterization of design variables ignores the most critical component of the system, the point-of-use stakeholders (e.g., doctors, nurses and patients). Herein, we demonstrated that …
