"This thesis was written in consideration of problems arising in present day use of battery operated seadrome lights. The information contained has been compiled to explain the development of a radically new design in seadrome lighting. Use of a selected single lighted strip is the basis of the design. The seadrome light described is a submergible type and is essentially a modification and combination of the 100 watt beacon lights, used with the Type B-2 portable field lighting set; and the American Gas Accumulator Company Portable Lighting Set PAM-2. "This report was the result of an assigment [sic] to make a geologic reconnaissance of the headwaters of Coldwater River in northwest Mississippi, on which a site for a flood control dam had been made. At the time of the last field work in November, 1940, the boring program for borrow areas and for foundation had been completed.

"Phosphorus first joined the ranks of large-tonnage industrial raw materials about ten years ago, with the development of the electric furnace method for its production from rock phosphate. For many years before the present era of large-scale production, phosphorus had been little more than a laboratory curiosity. Thereafter, it found extensive application in pyrotechnics, match tips, rat poisons, and other uses not requiring more than a few hundred of tons in a year. I. SCOPE OF THIS REPORT (1) Twenty-six tension tests were carried out on specimens cut from the steel from which the beams of the present series were formed. (2) Two specimens of beam 6 - 3 - 16 were tested in the same manner as described in the preceding report. These are replacement specimens furnished by the manufacturer for two beams damaged in the original shipment. (3) The greater part of the evaluation of the results of all twenty-six beam tests was completed and the entire evaluation will be discussed in the next report.

"Peele's "Mining Engineers' Handbook" lists six of the more vital factors influencing the method of development and operation of a mine. These are (1) topography, (2) local geology, (3) location and mining of oreshoots, (4) haulage problems, (5) drainage, and (6) ventilation and safety. The purpose of this thesis is to provide a scheme for studying the drainage factor and to show how much a scheme works out in actual practice. "The study of flow properties of many substances is of prime importance in varied industries. The ceramic industry is mainly concerned with these measurements on a relatively stiff ceramic body, i.e., one which contains only enough water to retain its shape after the deforming force is relieved.
Various types of instruments have been devised to measure flow properties in the so-called "true plastic range." I. SCOPE OF THIS REPORT 24 symmetrical I-beams were tested in bending. They represent 12 different types of beams, with two beams of each type. The beams are formed from two identical channels, furnished with lips on both flanges, joined by bolting in the web. These tests complete the entire series of such I-beams, except for one type (two specimens) which arrived in damaged condition and are now being replaced by the manufacturer.
