The Fissure System Of El Potosi Mine Of El Potosi Mining Company, Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico, Carl E. Millikan
The Fissure System Of El Potosi Mine Of El Potosi Mining Company, Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico, Carl E. Millikan
Professional Degree Theses
"The fissures traversing the country were the means of mineralizing the district. The North-South system of fissures have been determined to be pre-mineral, hence the most important. Their intersections with cross fissures are the regions of orebodies, and the intersections have always produced ore of mineable quantity. Especially important are the intersections of fissures in the "favorable" (fossiliferous) limestone beds. The favorable limestones are easily recognizable and can be traced thru all parts of the district because of their distinctiveness and the uniformity of the structure of the region"--Summary, page 19.

The Properties Of The Fire Clays Used For The Manufacture Of Zinc Retorts, Adolph Harmon Kuechler
The Properties Of The Fire Clays Used For The Manufacture Of Zinc Retorts, Adolph Harmon Kuechler
Masters Theses
"The ultimate object of this refractories investigation is to develop a body for zinc retorts, or changes in the method of their manufacture, that will result in better retorts than the ones now in use. In doing this, the question of permissible cost must, at all times, be kept in mind. The immediate object of the present phase of this investigation, of which this thesis covers only a part, is to determine the physical and chemical properties of the refractories (fire clays, grogs, bodies, etc.) now used for the manufacture of zinc retorts. This will be a basis for later …
Effect Of The Size Of Particles Of Zinc Ore And Carbon Upon The Rate Of Reduction Of Zinc Ore By Carbon, Keith Oxley Alexander
Effect Of The Size Of Particles Of Zinc Ore And Carbon Upon The Rate Of Reduction Of Zinc Ore By Carbon, Keith Oxley Alexander
Masters Theses
"In the retort smelting of zinc ores one of the chief metallurgical problems is to obtain as complete a reduction of the zinc as is consistent with economical operation. Among the factors influencing the completeness of reduction are the temperature and time of distillation, the form in which the zinc exists in the ore, the form of carbon used as reducer, and the size of the particles or ore and reducer"--Introduction, page 1.
Effect Of Various Factors On The Rate Of Reduction Of Zinc Ferrite, Calamine, And Willemite By Carbon, Foster Cary Nix
Effect Of Various Factors On The Rate Of Reduction Of Zinc Ferrite, Calamine, And Willemite By Carbon, Foster Cary Nix
Masters Theses
"Zinc ores containing large amounts of ferric oxide, calamine and willemite have been known for a long time among practical zinc metallurgists to be more difficult to reduce than ores of the same type but free from the above named compounds. This has been thought to be due to the high temperatures necessary for the reduction of the zinc ferrite and the zinc silicates by carbon. The ferrite is formed both during the roasting of sulphide ores and during distillation in the retorts, while calamine and willemite are introduced as such in the ores. The amount of ferrite formed during …

Accident Prevention In Cement Plants, Edward Rees Abbott
Accident Prevention In Cement Plants, Edward Rees Abbott
Bachelors Theses
"The cement industry as a whole took up accident prevention work along with the pioneers. With the organization of the Portland Cement Association, a Bureau of Accident Prevention was formed. This Accident Prevention Bureau, by sending out literature, holding competitions, collecting and tabulating results of accidents collected from every cement manufacturer and affiliating with National Safety Council as the Cement Section, has made rapid strides each year, until today it is doubtful if any other branch of manufacturers can show more improvement in accident records than the cement industry. In spite of their marked improvements each year, there were 47 …
Transmission Of Electrical Energy At 220,000 Volts, Robert Wilhelm Ahlquist
Transmission Of Electrical Energy At 220,000 Volts, Robert Wilhelm Ahlquist
Bachelors Theses
"A. E. Silver at the Annual Convention of the A.I.E.E. in 1919 gives some of the reasons why 220,000 Volt transmission is a logical and feasible commercial proposition. He also gives some of the main features of the undertaking...Owing to the great scope of this paper it has been thought necessary to generalize on the discussion of the first two topics and to treat the next two in more detail"--Statement of Scope of this Paper, pages 3-4.
The Solubilities Of Certain Inorganic Salts In Anhydrous Normal Alcohols, William Orval Keeling
The Solubilities Of Certain Inorganic Salts In Anhydrous Normal Alcohols, William Orval Keeling
Masters Theses
"An examination of the literature shows that extensive studies have been made of the solubilities of inorganic salts in aqueous, normal alcohols, but that little has been done in determining the solubilities in anhydrous alcohols. Northing was found of a systematic study of the solubilities of NaCl, KCl, NaN0₃ and KNO₃ in the lower alcohols over a fairly wide range of temperature. The author has made a study of the solubilities of the above mentioned salts in lower anhydrous normal alcohols at the temperatures 20°C, 25°C, 30°C and 40°C"--Introduction, page 1.
The Reduction Of Zinc Oxide By Carbon, George August Zeller
The Reduction Of Zinc Oxide By Carbon, George August Zeller
Masters Theses
"In spite of the fact that the reduction of zinc oxide by carbon is the fundamental reaction upon which the pyrometallurgy of zinc is based, there is a decided lack of accurate knowledge concerning the mechanism of the reaction, the temperature at which it begins, and the effect of various factors upon the rate at which it takes place"--Introduction, page 1.
On Plain Carbon Steel, Walter Edward Remmers
On Plain Carbon Steel, Walter Edward Remmers
Masters Theses
"In 1921, an investigation was carried on by Messrs. Howe, Foley and Winlock, under the auspices of the National Research Council, the results of which were published under the title of - "Influence of Temperature, Time and Rate of Cooling on Physical Properties of Carbon Steel," by the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers, February, 1923. These results showed that all physical properties of a 0.34 C. percent steel are improved by increasing the rate of cooling from temperatures above the critical range up to a certain rapidity beyond which, there is a gain in strength at the expense …

An Investigation Of The Possibility Of A Missouri Furnace Obtaining An Iron Ore Supply From The State, Donald Foster Updike
An Investigation Of The Possibility Of A Missouri Furnace Obtaining An Iron Ore Supply From The State, Donald Foster Updike
Professional Degree Theses
"The material for this thesis and the observations and conclusions drawn are all the result of the writers connection with a group who were engaged by Brown Brothers to determine the possibility of supplying the St. Louis Coke and Chemical Company with iron ore from the state. The original idea was to try to obtain the Coke Companies complete requirement from the state. While the results are in a sense negative, the company appreciated the fact that, in a case of this kind, even negative results have a value"--Introduction, page 4.
The Outdoor Substation, Israel Herrick Lovett
The Outdoor Substation, Israel Herrick Lovett
Professional Degree Theses
"The Outdoor Substation, as an essential part of a high voltage distribution system, has been largely developed during the past 12 years. The New England Power Company was one of the pioneers in this development, their substation at Millbury, Massachusetts, being one of the first outdoor substations in the northern part of the country. During the five years' experience with this company, the writer of this thesis, in his position of Chief Electrical Designer, was partly responsible for the design of all substations constructed by the company during this period, from 1916 to 1921...This thesis is an account of the …
