Analyses Of Limestones And Shales, Byron John Snyder
Analyses Of Limestones And Shales, Byron John Snyder
Bachelors Theses
"The limestones were analyzed to determine their value for cement and lime manufacture, and were taken from several counties in the state of Missouri. Most of the limestones examined were very pure. A considerable quantity of well burned lime is added to other material in the manufacture of cement, a lime of very pure type being the most acceptable in this work"--page 1.
The Design Of Main Street Reinforced Concrete Arch Over Frisco R. R., Hyman Zirulick
The Design Of Main Street Reinforced Concrete Arch Over Frisco R. R., Hyman Zirulick
Bachelors Theses
"Owing to the cheapness and durability of reinforced concrete, the tendency of the present time in Engineering practice is to build new and replace old structures with reinforced concrete. Therefore, in taking up a subject for a thesis, I have selected, The Investigation of the Design of a Reinforced concrete Arch," or, as I named it, "Main Street Reinforced concrete Arch over Frisco Railroad"--Introduction, page 1.

Plans And Estimates For The Disposal Of Sewage And Storm Water For The City Of Rolla, Mo., Tracy Irwin Phelps, Robert Arthur Barton
Bachelors Theses
"The City of Rolla is the county seat of Phelps County, situated 111 miles southwest of St. Louis, on the St. Louis and San Francisco R.R. This thriving city of 2000 inhabitants already owns the electric lighting system, and has engineers working upon plans for a deep well water supply system. Since the sanitary conditions are not the best and a water supply is to be installed, we submit these plans and estimates for a "Disposal of Sewage and Storm Water."--page iii.

Copper Matting Blast Furnace Run, John Vivian Stevens, Frank Bowman Powell, John Dozier Shanks
Bachelors Theses
"The theory of the copper blast furnace run having been given us in the class room, we wishing to familiarize ourselves with the practical processes and the difficulties involved, selected it as the basis of an investigation of which the following is a correct report. The original ore was a high grade copper sulphide from the Ducktown, Tenn. district to which was added some heavy pyritic ore from various quarters. The latter was added to furnish the iron oxide necessary as a flux in the blast furnace and sulphur in sufficient amount to make the ore self roasting when charged …

A Special Investigation In Concrete Steel And Application To Square Set System, Horace Alonzo Hand
A Special Investigation In Concrete Steel And Application To Square Set System, Horace Alonzo Hand
Bachelors Theses
"This investigation has been prompted, first, by a desire to become more familiar with concrete-steel in its general application to engineering construction, second, by the inevitable necessity of a substitute in the near future for lumber in mining construction. In first case, a thorough review has been made of principles and practice in the construction of concrete-steel structures in general, including bridges, water towers, reservoirs, viaducts, etc., as found in current engineering journals, which is the most up-to-date source of information available. Special attention has been given to best practice in reinforcing concrete to resist forces of bending, shearing, torsion …

Treatment Of Joplin Tailings, Preston King Horner
Treatment Of Joplin Tailings, Preston King Horner
Bachelors Theses
"In the Joplin region are enormous piles of tailings, that for waste material, run very high in blende. This is due mainly to the temporary character of the mills which are built with more regard to low first cost than to receiving a high percentage of extraction. As a result we have some piles of tailings containing from 200,000 to 300,000 tons of materials that will average from about 2 to 3% zinc, and all crushed so as to pass through about #2 mesh"--Page 1.

The Manufacture Of Coal Gas In St. Louis, Albert Dyke Wilson
The Manufacture Of Coal Gas In St. Louis, Albert Dyke Wilson
Professional Degree Theses
"Coal gas is made by heating Bituminous Coal in closed fire-clay retorts, for four or five hours, at a bright red heat. An exhauster pulls the gas from the retort as fast as it is generated in order to prevent, as much as possible, the breaking up of the hydrocarbons into carbon and hydrogen by the hot molls of the retort"--page 2.
The Reaction Velocity Of Ethylene And Iodine, Herbert Arno Roesler
The Reaction Velocity Of Ethylene And Iodine, Herbert Arno Roesler
Professional Degree Theses
"The constituents of coal or enriched water gas which give it value as a light producer are known collectively as "illuminants". They consist essentially of ethylene and propylene and in the analysis are determined by means of fuming sulphuric acid. This method of determination is very unsatisfactory as it is impossible to ascertain the relative percentages of the two gases, only the total being found. A series of experiments were made, for the purpose of finding a reagent that could be used for separating the members of the illuminating group and while thus engaged, a solution of iodine in potassium …

Analysis And Metallurgical Treatment Of Copper Ores From Ajo Basin, Arizona, Harry Carleton Chamberlain
Bachelors Theses
"The purpose in mind, in writing this thesis, is to select the most economical method of treating the ores found in the Ajo Basin. The ore on the surface, and to a depth of thirty to forty feet, is almost exclusively carbonates in a silicious six gangue. Immediately underlying the carbonate ore comes the sulphide ore in its natural state, lying below any action of the elements, and is in various forms. The sulphide has been found in every shaft to its lowest depth"--page 1.

The Lignite Coal Of North Dakota, Clyde Mckeever Laizure, James Knight Christopher
Bachelors Theses
"Owing to the great abundance of coal, both anthracite and bituminous, in the United States, no state need suffer for the lack of it, but to those states like North Dakota, situated in the great plains region and at great distances from such coal supplies, the price of these coals makes them almost luxuries. In the last few years however, the development of the lignite coal within the state of North Dakota has shown an abundance of fuel for many years to come, which, though at one time considered "A poor excuse for poor wood," now competes successfully with any …

An Investigation Of The Chemical And Metallurgical Treatment Of A Cobalt And Nickel Ore, James Watts Caples
Bachelors Theses
"The ore, coming from a district located one hundred and fifteen miles from the nearest railroad point, in a mountainous country, barren of coal, and where freight rates were enormous; demanded a method of treatment not now in general use upon this class of ores, and one that would require as little freight haulage either way, as possible. Cyanide Tests To Show Action Of Common Cyanicides, Charles L. Lintecum
Cyanide Tests To Show Action Of Common Cyanicides, Charles L. Lintecum
Bachelors Theses
"In view of the growing importance of the cyanide process and in that it seems destined to take an important place in the metallurgical treatment of gold and silver ores, the following tests have been taken as a thesis: It was intended at the onset to deal with varied ores and corroborate or establish any relation existing between such cyanicides as Cu, Bi, Sb, Mn, As, Fe, S and Te and the amount of cyanide consumed. This object however, was not fully realized owing to the fact that a large amount of work was done on ores No's. 1, 2, …
