Metallurgical Bookkeeping, John Owen Ambler Jan 1920

Metallurgical Bookkeeping, John Owen Ambler

Professional Degree Theses

"A system of costs and metallurgical records similar to that outlined herein is in use in a number of modern Smelters, and is of interest as showing what information is desirable for proper plant control. From a study of this information, which is usually compiled monthly in such a manner that comparisons may be readily made, it is possible to modify current practice to obtain maximum operating efficiency, and to approximate very closely the benefit that may be derived from changes in and additions to the plant itself and the methods of operation, or in the materials received and treated. …

Metallurgy Of Steel Castings, Earl Joesting Mcnely Jan 1920

Metallurgy Of Steel Castings, Earl Joesting Mcnely

Professional Degree Theses

"This Thesis is in the form of a report of the observations of the author while working in the American Steel Foundries plants in various departments. The parts of the report dealing the Moulding and Inspection of castings were written while in the Indiana Harbor Indiana plant. The parts dealing with the Laboratory and Furnace Operation were written while in the Granite City, Illinois plant. The company owns and operates six other plants but the material covered in this report will, in a general way cover the operations in these plants, also, in which foundry work is carried on"--Introduction, Page …

Milling Practice Of The Missouri-Kansas-Oklahoma Field As It Has Developed In The Past Two Years, Frank Stillmann Elfred Jan 1920

Milling Practice Of The Missouri-Kansas-Oklahoma Field As It Has Developed In The Past Two Years, Frank Stillmann Elfred

Professional Degree Theses

"The writer has limited his subject to deal with the past two years as it is only the past two years that a great deal of research has been done in the field upon milling ideas and practices; but I will briefly give you the evolution of our present milling and concentrating practices by means of the following flow sheets"--Page 1.

Electrolytic And Furnace Refining Of Copper In South East Missouri, Ray Gould Knickerbocker Jan 1920

Electrolytic And Furnace Refining Of Copper In South East Missouri, Ray Gould Knickerbocker

Professional Degree Theses

"This article treats with the production of refined ingot copper from a Copper-Cobalt-Nickel Matte. The method employed to separate Copper from Cobalt and Nickel was the electrolytic process. The information given is the result of my experience as Superintendent of the copper department for The Missouri Cobalt Company, Fredericktown, Missouri. In order to simplify the article, it shall be divided into four parts, namely (1) the quality of product delivered to the copper department; (2) the leaching plant; (3) the electrolytic plant; (4) the furnace refinery"--Page 1.

Efficient Field Methods For The Petroleum Geologist, Phillips Brooks Dolman Jan 1920

Efficient Field Methods For The Petroleum Geologist, Phillips Brooks Dolman

Professional Degree Theses

"The methods and systems suggested for the use of the petroleum geologist in the following manuscript are intended not only as subject matter for a thesis but also, I sincerely wish, that they may be of some use and help to those of The Missouri School of Mines who are planning to take up petroleum geology as a profession, but have not yet had the opportunity to study the practical or field end of this work ... This article is by no means intended as a text; the principal object being, as previously stated, to offer a few systems, methods, …

Preliminary Study Of Possible Power Development On The Gasconade River, Charles Russell Barnard, Ronald Blair Wills, Harry Wesley Zieseniss Jan 1920

Preliminary Study Of Possible Power Development On The Gasconade River, Charles Russell Barnard, Ronald Blair Wills, Harry Wesley Zieseniss

Bachelors Theses

"The location of a possible dam site on the Gasconade River as a thesis proved to be a very interesting subject. Our first trip pointed out to us that we had undertaken a large task. We also realized that our subject was too big to complete thouroughly sic in the time alloted. Due to this circumstance we tried to cover the essential facts and to eliminate as much of the detail work as possible. For instance, we made no attempt to make a complete survey of the basin, instead, we ran surveys for some distance up the river to give …

The Factors Influencing The Price Of Metals On The Metal Market, Thomas Patrick F. Walsh Jan 1920

The Factors Influencing The Price Of Metals On The Metal Market, Thomas Patrick F. Walsh

Masters Theses

"Every year the various engineering and industrial magazines print curves showing the rise and fall of metal stocks throughout the year. to the ordinary reader, these curves are seldom intelligible; he sees the ups and downs; he knows that the prices have risen and fallen; but he rarely knows what causes these changes -- and the curves themselves never tell. This paper tries to remedy this defect; it draws its curves, and, in the light of historical events, which it recounts, tries to determine the causes for the fluctuations in the market. it further places these factors on the curve …

Graphics And Its Application To The Progress And Cost Analyses Of A House Building Construction Company, Frank Lewis Leonard Wilson Jan 1919

Graphics And Its Application To The Progress And Cost Analyses Of A House Building Construction Company, Frank Lewis Leonard Wilson

Masters Theses

"In the graphical analyses of Stresses in Framed Structures, we study, by means of diagrams, the stability or equilibrium of structures and the relation between the external forces and the stresses created in the members of the frame. The principle involved is that we may represent any force both as to direction and intensity by a straight line, by considering the direction of the line to be identical with that of the force and adjusting its length according to any arbitrary unit adopted for the forces under consideration. By this means we can solve the stresses in framed structures with …
