Missouri School Of Mines, Civil Engineering Department Survey Data. Including The Adjustment Of The Triangulation Net On The M.S.M. Campus, Joe Beaty Butler, Roy Oscar Erickson, Wayne Shannon Frame
Professional Degree Theses
"In taking up the adjustment of survey data on the M.S.M. Campus the first thing to determine [is] the use for said data. The data is used by the Department to determine whether or not the student in his Field Work has pursued correct methods. No attempt is made to require great precision as the student is just learning to use the instruments and time is not allowed in the courses for him to learn other than the rudiments of Surveying"--Part 2, Adjustment Data, Narration of Adjustment Methods, page 24.

Applications Of Method Of Least Squares To The Adjustment Of Level Circuits: Adjustment Of Elevations In Dawson And St. James Townships, Phelps County, Missouri, Clarence Edward Bardsley
Professional Degree Theses
"An introduction to a thesis on least squares could be drawn out to considerable length in explanation: as the purpose of this thesis has been an investigation in applications of the method of least squares to the adjustment of level circuits, it will be found in the body of the report considerable space has been devoted to the explanation of the different applications of the method, with a view that these investigations may be of use to engineers in the profession; so the introductory remarks will be brief ... The method of least squares takes first rank as an arithmetical …

Metallurgical Processes Involving Surface Phenomena, Reginald Scott Dean
Professional Degree Theses
"Surface Tension of Liquid Metals. The surface tension of liquid metals is much greater than that of any other class of substances. Barkins lists the various substances in the following order as to surface tension; organic compounds, water, molten salts, metals"--Part I. General, page 1.
A Metallographic Study Of Copper Mattes, Edward James Torrence
A Metallographic Study Of Copper Mattes, Edward James Torrence
Bachelors Theses
"The metallographic knowledge of copper mattes or mattes in general for that matter, although extensive, is, to put it mildly, rather diversified. One authority, for instance, believes that mattes are sulphide dissolving compounds there being no eutectiferous series involved. Another believes that the matte constituents enter into a eutectiferous series, compounds being present. Still a third contends that there are no compounds formed but that a simple eutectiferous range exists between certain limits outside of which the end members of the series form solid solutions with each other. In so far as there exists seeming absolute proof for all of …
Determination Of The Solubilities Of Lithium, Sodium, And Potassium Sulphates In Absolute Methyl And Ethyl Alcohols, Jennie Lynn Lenox
Determination Of The Solubilities Of Lithium, Sodium, And Potassium Sulphates In Absolute Methyl And Ethyl Alcohols, Jennie Lynn Lenox
Masters Theses
"It was thought by the author that there might be some relation between the solubility of a salt in the alcohols and the position of those alcohols in the series of monohydric alcohols; that is, that there should be a definite increase or decrease in the solubility of any particular salt in going from a higher to a lower alcohol. The object of this paper was to find the solubilities of some simple salts in as pure alcohol as could be prepared, and to find any relationships if possible"--page 2.
The Middle Ordovician Section In East Central Missouri, Morris James Ingerson, Josiah Bridge
The Middle Ordovician Section In East Central Missouri, Morris James Ingerson, Josiah Bridge
Masters Theses
"One of the most serious difficulties confronting anyone working on stratigraphic problems in the Ozark area is the lack of detailed faunal lists of the various formations. A great deal of general work has been done, but very few detailed faunal studies have ever been published, and correlation of the Missouri section with sections in adjoining states is often difficult.
In a recent paper, Dake has discussed the origin and correlation of the St. Peter sandstone. In this study he found considerable difficulty in correlating the various formations above the St. Peter, and at his suggestion, the present study was …

Purpose of Investigation
To determine the best composition of a straight carbon drill steel for drilling in granite.
Method of Investigation
- Obtain several brands of standard grade drill steel. Determine analysis and transformation points of each.
- Determine that heat treatment which gives the best drilling qualities in granite.
- Determine the micro-structure of such steel.
- Obtain steel of a certain specified composition considered best for the conditions and compare the results on this steel with the results obtained on the market products.
- Design of heating furnace for forging steels.
It will be observed from what follows that this outline was …

A Complete Coal Mine Survey, Harry A. Kluge
A Complete Coal Mine Survey, Harry A. Kluge
Professional Degree Theses
"As an introduction to this thesis, it would probably be well to give the laws of the State of Illinois relative to mine maps. These laws come under "An Act to revise the laws in relation to the coal mines and subjects relating thereto, and providing for the health and safety of persons employed therein. Approved June 6, 1911, inforce July 1, 1911. leaf 1911, page 388." Section 7 reads as follows: (a) The operator of every coal mine in the State shall make, or cause to be made, an accurate map or plan of such mine, drawn to a …
The Heat Treatment Of Cast Steel, Fred Grotts
The Heat Treatment Of Cast Steel, Fred Grotts
Professional Degree Theses
"Owing to many difficulties reported from the battle fields of France also from many sections of the United States, Mexico, Africa and South America relative to the functioning of the "Caterpillar" track an intensive research was begun early in the spring of 1919 to develop or perfect a material that could be made into intricate forms and which would have such physical properties as would withstand to a maximum degree, the abrasive action of rock and sand while at the same time having a high tensile strength and resistance to shock. A further requisite was that this material must be …
Geologic Conditions Affecting The Accumulation Of Oil And Gas In The Beggs District, Oklahoma, John Charles Miller
Geologic Conditions Affecting The Accumulation Of Oil And Gas In The Beggs District, Oklahoma, John Charles Miller
Professional Degree Theses
"It is generally accepted that there is lack of parallelism between surface and subsurface beds and between the productive sands in the Beggs District, a condition similar to that which obtains in the Cushing Field. The explanation of this condition as given on page 31, Bulletin 658, U.S. Geological Survey, is: 1) The difference in resistance to compression of the hard and soft beds of which the formations of the Cushing Field are composed; 2) The lenticular form of the Bartlesville sand (the equivalent of the Glen; Gas of Morris pool); 3) One or more unconformities between surface beds and …
Furfural (Furfuraldehyde) And Some Of Its Derivatives, Marion Smith Badollet
Furfural (Furfuraldehyde) And Some Of Its Derivatives, Marion Smith Badollet
Masters Theses
"In the spring of 1919 the Eastman Kodak laboratories suggested to the chemistry department of the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy that experiments on small-scale production of furfural be undertaken. After a series of experiments a small amount of this product was made and a report was given before the American chemical Society at St. Louis in April 1920. The furfural prepared at the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy was sold to the Eastman Kodak laboratories. Within recent years very little experimental work has been done on furfural. It commands a high price as only small amounts are …
