Investigations Of Diversion On The Lower Mississippi River, Elmer John Sperling Jan 1932

Investigations Of Diversion On The Lower Mississippi River, Elmer John Sperling

Masters Theses

"The purposes of this investigation were severally as follows: (a) To determine the feasibility of digging pilot channels to scour out channels through the Beouf and Atchafalaya basins of sufficient size to handle the project flows contemplated for these basins in time of superflood. (b) To determine the best forms of the pilot channels and the best approximate dimensions. (c) To determine velocities conducive to erosion, transportation, and deposition; the manner and rate of enlargement under below-bank, bankful, and overbank flows; and the character of trace to be expected after enlargement of the proposed channels. (d) To investigate any suggested …

Technical Methods Of Analysis For Mill Products, Daniel Elijah Huffman Jan 1931

Technical Methods Of Analysis For Mill Products, Daniel Elijah Huffman

Professional Degree Theses

"In mining and milling operations it is necessary that the assays be known as soon as possible, also that these results are more accurate than the sampling or the operation that produced the samples. This means that both speed and accuracy must be considered when selecting a method for the analysis of samples"--Technical Methods of Analysis, page 1.

Chemical Control -- Influence On Manufacture And Quality Of Cement, Joseph Owen Hunt Jan 1931

Chemical Control -- Influence On Manufacture And Quality Of Cement, Joseph Owen Hunt

Professional Degree Theses

"Definition:- Portland cement may be defined as the product obtained by finely pulverizing clinker produced by calcining to incipient fusion an intimate and properly proportioned mixture of argillaceous and calcareous materials with no additions subsequent to calcination excepting water and calcined or uncalcined gypsum. While a review of Portland cement analysis would show a wide variation in chemical composition, it must not be supposed that such latitude in proportioning the raw material really exists. If the resulting Portland cement is to be sound, normal setting, and of good strength it is imperative that the raw materials shall be correctly proportioned …

Memorandum: Current Recording And Reporting Of Mortality And Salvage Data, Buildings, C.B. Central Office Equipment, Multiple Private Branch Exchanges, Wilbur Elihu Sheldon Jan 1931

Memorandum: Current Recording And Reporting Of Mortality And Salvage Data, Buildings, C.B. Central Office Equipment, Multiple Private Branch Exchanges, Wilbur Elihu Sheldon

Professional Degree Theses

"The purpose of this memorandum is to describe the methods and forms to be used in recording currently and reporting annually actual additions and retirements of Buildings, Common Battery Central Office Telephone Equipment, and Multiple Private Branch Exchanges, together with the making of certain periodic estimates of future additions and retirements, final dates of retirement, and probable net salvage at final retirement. All of these data are used in connection with the determination of depreciation rates for the classes of plant mentioned"--Section I. General, page 4.

Japan, Van Hoose Smith Jan 1931

Japan, Van Hoose Smith

Professional Degree Theses

"This ore is mined from a quartz vein which is refined by small seams of graphitic clay material, and the walls of the vein consist of a sort of graphitic shaley material. The above graphitic materials break down under treatment into a rather peculiar clay which was called primary colloidal slime. The milling process in use consists of stamp milling followed by the separation into sand and primary slime in Dorr Duplex Classifiers. The primary slime overflow from these classifiers, which is all practically thru 220 mesh, is thickened and treated by flotation. Normally and with a good supply of …

Gas Analysis By Measurement Of The Thermal Conductivity, Bertie Lee Browning Jan 1931

Gas Analysis By Measurement Of The Thermal Conductivity, Bertie Lee Browning

Professional Degree Theses

"Types of gas analysis. Methods for the analysis of gases may be divided into two general classes, physical and chemical. In chemical methods, a constituent of the gas mixture undergoes chemical reaction and the amount of the constituent is determined by change in volume or by supplementary chemical methods such as titration. The physical methods of analysis differ in that no chemical change takes place in the gas. Instead, a determination is made of some physical property which is related to the composition of the gas mixture. Some of the physical properties which have been used for purposes of analysis …

Georgia Kaolin As The China Clay Constituent In Floor And Wall Tile Bodies, Alfred Arthur Mitchell Jan 1931

Georgia Kaolin As The China Clay Constituent In Floor And Wall Tile Bodies, Alfred Arthur Mitchell

Bachelors Theses

"The replacement of the China Clay content in vitreous floor tile and porous wall tile bodies wholly by Georgia sedimentary kaolin would reduce the cost of these bodies being used in our floor and wall tile plants at present. This plastic kaolin is available in large quantities in the State of George, covering an area of about 7500 square miles. It is the intention of this work to substitute this American Clay for the more costly imported English China Clay now being used"--Introduction, page 1.

The Effect Of Small Amounts Of Chrome Ore On Dry Press Diaspore Refractories, Allen John Reid Jan 1931

The Effect Of Small Amounts Of Chrome Ore On Dry Press Diaspore Refractories, Allen John Reid

Bachelors Theses

"The term "Diaspore" as used in this paper will be used to mean the diaspore clay from which refractory bodies are made. The pure mineral Diaspore (Al₂O₃ . H₂O) has an Al₂O₃ content of 85%, while the best grades of diaspore clay run from 76% to 79% diaspore. Diaspore clay consists of a varying percentage of diaspore, ranging from 60% to 79%, and the remaining percentage as clay. The most objectionable impurities which occure sic in diaspore clay are alkalies. The chief source of diaspore is the central part of Missouri. It occurs in pot hole formations accompanied by "flint" …

A Study Of An Objective Placement Examination For Sectioning College Physics Classes, John Milton Willson Jan 1931

A Study Of An Objective Placement Examination For Sectioning College Physics Classes, John Milton Willson

Masters Theses

"For several years the Department of Physics of the Missouri School of Mines has practiced sectioning of its classes in general physics. The aim has been to segregate in one section the students of superior ability, giving them a course including both the fundamentals of physics and their applications in engineering. The remainder are given a course in fundamentals without placing so much stress upon the applications...Another criterion used to supplement the first-year grade record is the student's score on the Iowa Placement Examinations. The physics examination consists of two parts, the Training Series and the Aptitude Series. These examinations …
