He speculates when they will be able to cross the Mississippi River and feels confident that they will not have any trouble doing so.

This certificate, numbered 289, certifies that Peleg Clarkee, Jr. is entitled to twenty-five shares of the Capital Stock of the Melville Gold Mining Company. The certificate is signed by William C. Ford, the company secretary and John Callallon, the president of the company. The corticate includes imagery of men working in mines and declares that the Melville Gold Mining Company was "organized under an act of the Legislature of New York, authorizing the Formation of Corporations, passed February 17, 1848."
