A Statistical Analysis Of Southern Land Grants In Addressing Declining College Enrollment, Kallen Zhou

With declining enrollment of higher education, it is crucial to analyze current mechanics in order to maintain higher education’s benefits to society. Currently, research is aware that land grants serve an important historical role in promoting enrollment, yet additional research is required on their contemporary impact on enrollment and institutional aid. Specifically, this study evaluates land grants universities - institutions established under the Morrill Act of 1862 - and data collected from their respective Common Data Sets on historical enrollment and institutional aid from 2013 to 2023. Executive Summary:

Mississippi’s aging population growth mirrors national trends and suggests a need to establish equitable and sustainable age-friendly policies and programs. This report offers an overview of the best practices from age-friendly states, which can be adapted to meet unique challenges and opportunities for Mississippi’s aging population. We highlight five age-friendly policy areas that can improve Mississippi’s livability.

• Aging in Place: Best practices from California, Florida, and Massachusetts can be adapted to promote aging in place through structural changes to homes via universal design and home modifications, or through supportive housing programs and home care.

This is a response to the articles of Albena Azmanova and Jodi Dean included in this issue, exploring the intersections and divergences in their analyses of contemporary capitalism. I argue that the lens of neofeudalism that Jodi Dean invites us to entertain can offer a different explanation of Albena Azmanova’s diagnosis of contemporary capitalism. Notably, I propose that capitalism’s neofeudalising tendencies contribute to the rise of inequality, the decline of class politics, and the increase of monopoly power. All contributors to the Radical Critical Theory Circle's symposium ‘Thinking Capitalism in the 21st Century" highlight deficiencies in mainstream critical theory’s analysis of capitalism, but also point to some possible avenues of renewal. This this brief commentary focuses on how one should understand immanent critique—and in particular empirically-grounded versions of immanent critique. The piece's main contentions are that critique should rediscover its high modernist vocation as a Wissenschaft, and that a radical realist approach can uncover new ways for political theory to expose the most important power structures in society.

To offer a compelling critique of the present, critical theory needs an account of capitalism that foregrounds its interrelation with the ongoing legacies of colonialism, imperialism, and slavery. To serve as a resource for such an account, Marx’s critique of capitalism and his theory of history need to be disentangled. This analysis revisits the problems of universality, necessity, and progress in Marx’s work in order to show how Marx’s consistently dialectical and critical account of capitalist modernity can be emancipated from the historicist framework that undergirds it.

Since the late 1970s, postcolonial theorizing and decolonizing activisms have directed attention to a taken-for-granted Eurocentrism in Marx/ism. Since the early 2000s, the explosion in available texts, published in original languages and in English translation, has enabled these critiques to develop. Scholars of Marx and activists within Marxism have sometimes responded defensively with apologetics. In this article we analyze an exemplar of this dogmatic and moralizing genre, showing how it deploys three tropes that commonly structure intellectual biography and scholarly commentary. This thesis explores the dynamic behavior of suspension systems using a radio-controlled (RC) vehicle as the study unit. By combining experimental drop testing and the Mississippi State Autonomous Vehicle Simulator (MAVS), the research focuses on determining key suspension parameters, including the spring constant and damping coefficient, which define the stiffness and energy dissipation characteristics of the system. The RC vehicle's suspension system provided a controlled platform for studying these dynamics under both real-world and simulated conditions. Practice-based teacher education has been suggested as one approach to help preservice teachers (PSTs) learn how to enact high- leverage teaching practices such as facilitating a whole class discussion (Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators, 2017; McDonald et al., 2013). McDonald et al. (2013) suggested a learning cycle that includes four parts: 1) introduce the practice; 2) prepare for and rehearse the practice; 3) implement the practice with students; and 4) analyze the enactment to inform future cycles. Invasive species are one of the foremost threats to global biodiversity and predicting where they can inhabit is of primary concern for researchers and resource managers. Ecological niche models (ENMs) are a useful tool for addressing this problem. This study focuses on Cyperus blepharoleptos (Cuban bulrush), an aquatic sedge that is invasive in the southeastern United States. To model the ecological niche of C. blepharoleptos, 1,137 records were compiled from North and South America and partitioned into training and testing data. The Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (GNDNERR) has a history of elevated fecal coliform counts. However, the source of the contamination is not well understood. According to past sanitary surveys, there has been a history of malfunctioning residential septic systems and inadequate wastewater treatment in the upper watershed. Feral hogs (Sus scrofa) and birds are also abundant in the estuary and could be potential contributors to elevated fecal coliform levels. In this dissertation, we study the existence and uniqueness of positive solutions for classes of nonlinear boundary value problems. In the first study, we the ��-superlinear case, we prove the existence of a large positive solution when a parameter is small and if, in addition, the reaction term satisfies a concavity-like condition at the origin, the existence of two positive solutions for a certain range of the parameter. In the ��-sublinear case, we establish the existence of a large positive solution when a parameter is large. This study investigates the correlation between soil selenium levels and Type 2 diabetes (T2D) prevalence across U.S. regions between 2012 to 2018. Selenium, an essential trace element, plays an important role in antioxidant defense and metabolism. While appropriate selenium intake may protect against diabetes by improving insulin sensitivity and reducing oxidative stress, excessive intake can have adverse effects. The use of image segmentation within mission-critical autonomous vehicle applications is contingent on reliability of visual sensors, which may become significantly compromised by environmental occlusions such as mud, water, dust, or ice. This thesis explores semantic segmentation techniques tailored for identifying occluded regions, addressing the limitations of conventional methods under unpredictable real-world conditions. Given the scarcity of training datasets with realistic occlusions and the resulting reliance on synthetic data, this research leverages style transfer augmentations and a novel augmentation policy optimization framework to diversify training datasets and improve model generalization.
