In "Bolyai-Lobachevsky Planes with Finite Lines," B. J. Topel Presented seven axioms for a hyperbolic plane and then proved there were no finite hyperbolic planes. This paper begins by reviewing Topel' s article. Graves presented a different set of axioms for a finite hyperbolic plane in "A Finite Bolyai-Lobachevsky Plane." The purpose of this paper is two-fold. First, the problem of developing a new method of constructing a finite hyperbolic plane under Graves' axioms is considered; and second, work done by other authors in constructing finite hyperbolic planes is reviewed.

Part I. A Novel Synthesis of Dihydrojasmone. — 3-Methylcyclopent-2-en-2-ol-l-one, a readily available substance of natural occurrence, was utilized in the synthesis of the well-known dihydrojasmone (2-n-aniyl-3-methylcyclopent-2-en-l-one). This was the first practical synthesis of dihydroJasmone which did not involve a condensation reaction, thus the possibility of obtaining an isomeric mixture of products was eliminated.

Acetylation of 3-methylcyclopent-2-en-2-ol-l-one with acetic anhydride gave 2-acetoxy-3-methylcyclopent-2-en-l-one, which was converted by the action of propylene oxide to 2-acetoxy-3-methylcyclopent-2-en-l-one propylene ketal. Saponification of this ketal gave 3- methyl-l,2-cyclopentanedione-l,l-propylene ketal, which served as a precursor to dihydrojasmone. Punishment By SD Associated With Fixed‐Ratio Reinforcement, Donald M. Thompson

Two pigeons were trained with positive reinforcement on a multiple FR VI 2 schedule. The VI 2 component was held constant while the FR component was changed from ratios of 1 to 300. After responding had stabilized at each FR value, VI responses produced briefly either the fixed‐ratio SD or a stimulus uncorrected with either schedule component. Compared to the effects of the uncorrected stimulus change, the fixed‐ratio SD produced a decrease in VI responding proportional to the size of the FR requirement. It is concluded that stimuli associated with high FR schedules served as punishment for the ongoing behavior. …
