A Data Acquisition And Processing System For High Frequency Repetitive Waveforms, Daran Lynn Rehmeyer
A Data Acquisition And Processing System For High Frequency Repetitive Waveforms, Daran Lynn Rehmeyer
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The purpose of this thesis is two-fold: to develop a computerized data acquisition system to replace a system using an oscilloscope-mounted Polaroid camera for recording waveforms, and secondly, to develop the processing software to supplement and ultimately replace the manual interpretations of the recorded signals. The impetus for upgrading the original acquisition system is provided by two main factors. The first is the volume and cost of the film required to record an entire waveform using the Polaroid camera and second, the time consuming method of recording and splicing the individual pictures together to form a complete waveform. The current …
Three Essays In The Economics Of The Physician Firm, William David Bradford, Iii
Three Essays In The Economics Of The Physician Firm, William David Bradford, Iii
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
This dissertation explores three aspects of the physician firm. As such, the current work is concerned with the contribution that quality considerations can make toward our understanding of the medical market. The first of three essays introduces quality into the literature aimed at estimating the supply function of physician firms. This study finds that explicit modeling of quality, both theoretically and empirically, produces results superior to past work in this field and indicates that physicians behave as if they are competitive economic agents. The second essay considers the effect of Medicaid on the behavior of physicians, especially their allocation of …
Distribution And Migration Patterns Of Subsurface Fluids In The Wilcox Group In Central Louisiana, Masaaki Funayama
Distribution And Migration Patterns Of Subsurface Fluids In The Wilcox Group In Central Louisiana, Masaaki Funayama
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Variations of pore fluid properties as well as lithologies in central Louisiana were investigated using more than 300 conventional well logs in order to understand processes and patterns of fluid flow in the Wilcox Group in the region. A statistical evaluation of log parameters was done to provide information required for interpreting older logs in the region.
Most of the study area is located between the northern and southern Louisiana salt dome basins, and there is a general lack of significant structural deformation. The two discrete sand dominated zones in the study area are the Wilcox and the post-Vicksburg groups. …

Geology And Volcanology Of The Recent Evolution Of Galeras Volcano, Colombia, Marta Lucía Calvache
Geology And Volcanology Of The Recent Evolution Of Galeras Volcano, Colombia, Marta Lucía Calvache
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Galeras volcano is located in southwestern Colombia, rising 1600 m above Pasto the capital city (population of 300,000) of the department of Nariño. The most recent activity at Galeras volcano(< 4500 years) included six major eruptions before the reactivation of 1988-present. The activity at the volcano has been characterizated by eruptions of vulcanian type. Gravitational column collapse is the most common origin of the fines-depleted co-ignimbrite breccias and pyroclastic flows. Commonly, a large part of the material ejected with each explosion is not juvenile but includes country rock as accessory lithics. In the initial explosions at Galeras, the country rock appear to be more involved that any other material. Later in the eruption, the products become more juvenile-rich deposits. The total volume of deposits related to Galeras volcano has been calculated to be 0.71 km3
Galeras volcano has had a fairly constant chemical composition, characterized by high silica, medium potassium andesites. Products at Galeras are mainly composed of zoned plagioclase, hypersthene, augite, titanomagnetite, ilmenite and traces of apatite. Amphibole and olivine may be also present. A shallow, small magma ( « 0.5 km3) chamber is consistent with the data for Galeras Volcano. The magmatic conditions in this reservoir prior to eruptions have …

Relationships Between Wetland Fragmentation And Recent Hydrologic Changes In A Deltaic Coast, R. Eugene Turner, Yeleswarapu S. Rao
Relationships Between Wetland Fragmentation And Recent Hydrologic Changes In A Deltaic Coast, R. Eugene Turner, Yeleswarapu S. Rao
Faculty Publications
Patterns in coastal wetland loss in the northern Gulf of Mexico were examined using aerial imagery from 1955–56 and 1978. Five qualitative types of wetland changes are evident: (1) spoil bank-parallel pond formation, (2) pond formation with apparent random distribution for the smallest ponds, but very clumped distribution for larger ponds, (3) semi- or complete impoundment resulting in open water formation, (4) cutting off of stream channels upstream of where a spoil bank crosses a natural channel, and (5) erosion at the land-water interface. Only pondsinterval, and it is clear that wetland breakup, not erosion at the pond-lake edge, is …

In this experiment we have identified and partially characterized the immunosuppressive activity of preimplantation horse conceptus-conditioned medium (HCCM). Horse conceptuses were nonsurgically flushed from mares at Days 9-10 (n = 6), 15-16 (n = 3), and 25-26 (n = 3). After incubating the conceptuses for 24 h in RPMI-1640 supplemented with 15% fetal calf serum (FCS) and 1% penicillin/streptomycin, HCCM was obtained from cultures and tested for immunosuppressive activity in lymphocyte proliferation assays. Peripheral blood lymphocytes obtained from randomly selected mares were stimulated with mitogens (pokeweed mitogen [PWM], concanavalin A [Con A], and phytohemagglutinin [PHA]) in cultures supplemented with 0%, …

On An Excluded-Minor Class Of Matroids, James G. Oxley
On An Excluded-Minor Class Of Matroids, James G. Oxley
Faculty Publications
A result of Walton and the author establishes that every 3-connected matroid of rank and corank at least three has one of five 6-element rank-3 self-dual matroids as a minor. One of these matroids is the rank-3 whirl W3. Another is the rank-3 matroid P6 that consists of a single 3-point line together with three points off the line. This paper determines the structure of the class of matroids that is obtained by excluding as minors both W3 and P6. As a consequence of this result, we deduce a characterization of the class of GF(4)-representable matroids with no W3-minor. © …

Geology, Volcanology, And Petrology Of Cerro Bravo, A Young, Dactic, Stratovolcano In West-Central Colombia, David Tondl Lescinsky
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The northernmost active Andean volcano, Cerro Bravo is a small, young, and very explosive stratovolcano. Cerro Bravo has produced voluminous tephra deposits, that are found> 30 km away, as well as, pumice flow deposits, block and ash flow deposits, and high-aspect lava flows, which are found proximally to the volcano. There have been eight episodes of activity during the past 6250±110 years (Herd, 1982), with the most recent <200 years ago and the present being a period of quiescence with no visible activity or thermal manifestations. Stratigraphic relationships suggest the occurrence of an initial explosive phase and a concluding effusive phase of activity during individual episodes. The products of volcanic activity at Cerro Bravo are a chemically and mineralogically monotonous suite of medium-K dacite and high-silica andesite (59.2- 67.5% SiO2 pumices and lavas. The dominant phenocrysts present are plagioclase and hornblende (oxyhomblende in lavas) with lesser quantities of orthopyroxene, titanomagnetite, and rare augite and biotite also present. Petrology and eruption dynamics …200>
