The Functionality Of Special Education Inclusion: A Phenomenological Study Of Teachers' Perceptions Of Inclusion, Collaboration, And Co-Teaching, Steven Andre Madden
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this phenomenological study was to describe the lived experiences of educators utilizing inclusive collaborative teaching models within co-teaching environments to develop positive student academic experiences for students with disabilities and their peers without disabilities at various locations within the Long River School District (pseudonym) located in the Mid-South of the United States. The theory that guided this study was Lev Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, which underpins the postulation that a student can learn through the help of a more knowledgeable other with the aid of the zone of proximal development, which correlates to collaborative co-teaching as a mode …

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this hermeneutic phenomenological study was to understand the experiences of promoting self-determination skills in students with hearing loss to address their listening and learning challenges for itinerant teachers of the deaf/hard of hearing at K-12 public schools in the United States. The theory guiding this study was Ryan and Deci’s self-determination theory through the lens of teachers of the deaf/hard of hearing promoting competency, autonomy, and relatedness skills in relation to self-determination for addressing challenges among students with hearing loss. The study's central research question was: What are the experiences of itinerant teachers of the deaf/hard of …
The Procrastinating Perfectionist: Examining Task Self-Efficacy & Procrastination Types On Life Task Performance, Michelle Lynn Capozzi
The Procrastinating Perfectionist: Examining Task Self-Efficacy & Procrastination Types On Life Task Performance, Michelle Lynn Capozzi
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Perfectionism is a personality trait that can manifest either adaptively or maladaptively, typically developing during childhood and adolescence. Less research has examined perfectionistic adjustment issues in adulthood compared to childhood and adolescence. Research indicates that adult perfectionists tend to procrastinate on tasks related to academia and job settings. However, little is known about passive and active procrastination types among adult perfectionists when completing life tasks. Since self-efficacy can produce motivation, adult perfectionists may be more or less likely to procrastinate based on how they perceive their capabilities. This study examined how perfectionism types (maladaptive, adaptive, non-perfectionist) impacted life task performance …
Impacts Of Early Childhood Trauma On Later Emotional, Behavioral, Educational, And Social Abilities, Stacey Merrill
Impacts Of Early Childhood Trauma On Later Emotional, Behavioral, Educational, And Social Abilities, Stacey Merrill
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Early childhood trauma has a long-lasting impact on individuals’ social interactions, mental health, academic skills, behaviors, and parenting skills for the future generations. Understanding how early interpersonal developmental trauma impacts an individual during adolescence can help providers and caregivers know how to help them become successful students and later adults. Helping individuals early in their development can prevent the cycle of abuse from continuing. Trauma informed care can help bridge the gap between those with and without known traumas. This study consisted of an interpretive phenomenological qualitative design using semi-structured interviews to understand the impact of early trauma on adolescence …

Electro Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (Etms) Effects On Pharmacoresistent Sleep Disorders Using A Quantitative Electroencephalogram (Qeeg), Sarah Diane Dean
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The following quantitative correlational study investigated the effects of eTMS on individuals with pharmacoresistant sleep disorders using a qEEG. This research measures the dimensions of anxiety, depression and quality of life (QoL) as it relates to untreated secondary diagnosis. Additionally, this research examines the activity level of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex in relation to eTMS treatments. It was found that correlation with anxiety (rs = -.466, p < .001), depression (rs = -0.556, p < 0.001), quality of life (rs = -.436, p < .001), and sleep disturbances (rs = -0.452, p < 0.001), have a statistically significant negative correlation with dlPFC activity level. Finally, it was found that eTMS does have a statistically significant relationship with sleep disturbances as well as anxiety, depression and general quality of life (U (195) = 4647, p = .971). This is important to the field of neuroscience as it provided a more precise form of individualized neuromodulation through the use of a uncommon type of transcranial magnetic stimulation.
Diversity Matters In Public Education: A Phenomenological Study, Monique A. Jackson
Diversity Matters In Public Education: A Phenomenological Study, Monique A. Jackson
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this transcendental, phenomenological study was to describe the lived experiences of diverse public-school educators who are overlooked for promotion and educational advancement opportunities within public school systems in the State of Texas. The theories guiding this study were Marilyn Brewer's optimal distinctiveness theory, which advocates how every individual needs to belong and feel uniquely accepted, and James House's social support theory, which purports the importance of groupthink--a concept that leans toward togetherness. The central research question, What are the lived experiences of diverse, public-school educators who are overlooked for promotion and educational advancement opportunities within public school …

Sense Of Belonging In The Workplace: Development And Validation Of A Scale, Campbell C. Dunson
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
In this dissertation, I describe the development and validation of the Sense of Belonging in the Workplace Scale (SBWS). A comprehensive, multidisciplinary review of the belonging construct revealed five key components of a sense of belonging in the workplace: (1) accepted/liked, (2) known/understood, (3) purpose/status, (4) respected/voice, and (5) safety/trust. Scale validation began with a review of 40 initial items by a panel of 12 subject matter experts (SMEs). The items were then revised, and a pilot study involving 67 participants was conducted to test these 40 items through exploratory factor analysis and construct validation. The top-performing 25 items were …

Family Poison: A Phenomenological Study Of The Role Of Toxic Parental Influence On Romantic Relationships, Kimberly Eichelberger-Searcy
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This phenomenological study sought to describe the lived experiences of adult survivors of toxic parents across the United States. The assumption was that toxic parental influence impacts romantic relationships. The following research questions framed this study: “How do adult survivors of toxic parents describe their experiences growing up with a toxic parent in the United States? How do adult survivors describe the effects of growing up with a toxic parent?” and “How do adult survivors of toxic parents describe the impact of their childhood experiences on their intimate/romantic relationships?”. The two theoretical frameworks guiding this study were Bowlby’s attachment theory, …

The Call (And Aftermath) Of The Void: Understanding Suicide Loss And Bereavement Processes Amongst Student Populaces, Saraha K. Brawner
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Each year, over 800,000 people die via lethal self-harm, leaving behind millions of survivors to navigate qualitatively unique manifestations of grief. Despite the profound psychosocial and psychopathological effects associated with suicide loss, research addressing these experiences remains extremely limited. This quantitative survey study examined the relationship between suicide loss and grief-related distress among students, focusing on sociodemographic, psychosocial, and psychopathological factors influencing bereavement over time. It also explored how the individual learned about the suicide and expanded upon 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-degree relationships. Forty-one participants recruited from universities and mental health organizations across the United States completed a loss summary/death …

Utilizing a 12-week longitudinal phenomenological approach with experimental components, the study engaged seven participants in a regimen of olfactory training twice daily. Participants used essential oils—citrus, cloves, eucalyptus, and rose—applied to cotton and kept in sealed containers, along with a pen and daily planner. Data were gathered through recurring qualitative interviews …
Strengthening Communication Between Staff And Health Providers In A Mental Health Setting, Michael Tricoli
Strengthening Communication Between Staff And Health Providers In A Mental Health Setting, Michael Tricoli
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Communication between nursing staff and providers is essential for supporting optimum patient outcomes. Each component of the communication process needs to be clearly defined to create an environment of safety for both patients and caregivers. The SBAR (situation, background, assessment, recommendation) is a nurse-driven protocol that is widely used as a communication and documentation template in health care organizations. This format is currently not being used effectively on the mental health units where the evidence-based project was implemented. Recognizing and reiterating the value of SBAR as a communication tool is necessary when communication deficits are noted. The purpose and scope …

Dementia Care: The Role Of Experiential Learning In Nursing Education, Jeannie Simpson
Wisdom & Compassion: The LUSON Journal
The escalating global prevalence of dementia necessitates enhanced educational strategies to prepare nursing students to care effectively for individuals living with dementia. Traditional methods in nursing education predominantly focus on pharmacological treatments and basic caregiving strategies, often neglecting innovative approaches like the Music & Memory® program, Virtual Dementia Tour®, and Montessori dementia. By including these innovative approaches, future nurses will be better equipped to develop and implement person-centered care for individuals living with dementia to improve their quality of life. The integration of these approaches will also meet the growing demands of dementia care, aligning with global health mandates.

The foster care system is meant to be a temporary living arrangement for children born into or raised in non-flourishing homes. However, the uniqueness of the system and the interactions of foster parents lead to undesirable foster home situations while the child is left in the system for longer times. The child in foster care faces several adverse life events that make it difficult for the child to develop into a successful adult. Purpose: This paper examines …

Disguising Emotional Distress Damages: Why Permitting Recovery Of “Reasonable And Necessary” Veterinarian Expenses Creates Inconsistency In Virginia, Ethan Payne
Liberty University Law Review
Humans crave companionship. This companionship comes first from a relationship with God and second from an inferior yet ordained relationship with other humans. But what about the creatures not made in God’s image? What about the previously wild creatures we bring into our homes as pets? Many cherish these animals with a love akin to family, especially dogs and cats. But is this the proper pedestal for pets?
This is an ongoing struggle humans have debated since as far back as dogs and cats have been domesticated. As time progressed, select cultures of various geographical backgrounds have subjugated animals, using …
The Necessity Of Better Rape-Related Protections For Victims Of Rape-Related Pregnancy, Joanna Harrison
The Necessity Of Better Rape-Related Protections For Victims Of Rape-Related Pregnancy, Joanna Harrison
Liberty University Law Review
A pregnancy that results from a rape is referred to as a rape-related pregnancy (RRP). One of the primary issues surrounding RRP is that, unless terminated by a state family court, the rapist maintains the same parental rights over the child conceived through the rape as any parent would have over their child. Allowing a rapist to keep any level of parental rights is extremely problematic. It forces the rape victim to interact regularly with the rapist, exposes the conceived child to the dangers of a rapist parent, and creates an opportunity for the rapist to weaponize those rights in …
A Delicate Balance: Securing Constitutional Rights Against The Nation’S Most Valuable National Security Tool, Mikayla A. Burton
A Delicate Balance: Securing Constitutional Rights Against The Nation’S Most Valuable National Security Tool, Mikayla A. Burton
Liberty University Law Review
Imagine a United States without the Fourth Amendment. The People have no protection against warrantless searches of their homes, belongings, or communications, and the government may invade the privacy of whomever or whatever at its pleasure. This is the exact situation the Founding Fathers designed the Fourth Amendment to protect against. Imagine instead a United States with the Fourth Amendment. The People have protection against warrantless searches of their homes, belongings, and communications, and the government may not invade the privacy of whomever or whatever at its pleasure. But then imagine that these protections are disrupted—jeopardized. Congress passes an act …
Lost Fatherhood: Including Fathers In The Post-Dobbs Abortion Debate, Linda L. Schlueter
Lost Fatherhood: Including Fathers In The Post-Dobbs Abortion Debate, Linda L. Schlueter
Liberty University Law Review
Scientific studies over the last five decades show the negative impact an abortion can have on the men who fathered the aborted children. These studies demonstrate that those men—even if they supported the woman’s decision to have an abortion—can experience a variety of psychological problems including depression, anger, hopelessness, helplessness, broken or damaged relationships, feelings of emasculation, and loneliness. Despite these compelling studies, little or no real attention is given to involving men in the legal debate regarding abortion. The abortion debate presents a legal Rubik’s Cube of thorny issues that can affect the mother, the father, and the unborn …

United States V. Skrmetti: The Supreme Court’S Opportunity To Protect Minors By Choosing Biological Reality Over Gender Ideology, Rena M. Lindevaldsen
Liberty University Law Review
“Did God really say?” That’s the question the serpent asked Eve in the garden, as she was tempted to turn from the Truth that God had told her about the consequences of eating the fruit from the one specific tree. She and Adam learned that God really did mean what He said. By rejecting God’s wisdom and instruction, they caused sin to enter the world. The same question forms the foundation of the transgender rights movement: did God, who created mankind in His image, really say that He created them male and female? In today’s culture, when a gender-confused child …

Science And The Humanities: Are They Two Polar Entities?, Elizabeth Mckenna Silvey
Science And The Humanities: Are They Two Polar Entities?, Elizabeth Mckenna Silvey
Masters Theses
Science and the humanities are often perceived as being separate entities. In academic settings, there is little to no overlap in these courses of study. One can obtain a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts degree, but there are no academic majors that allow for the study of both the humanities and the sciences. Despite the seemingly different courses of study, it is through careful examination of literature and thoroughly delving into pieces of literature in order to excavate the meaning and purpose behind the work, that one is able to see the distinct connections between the two …
Waffles And Spaghetti: The Effects Of Cognitive Processing Methods On Team Performance And Communication, Jonah Daniel Browning
Waffles And Spaghetti: The Effects Of Cognitive Processing Methods On Team Performance And Communication, Jonah Daniel Browning
Masters Theses
The goal of this thesis is to shed light on a practical method for resolving conflicts in team environments that stem from miscommunications brought on by differing cognitive processes. Our brains use different cognitive processing techniques to make sense of and explore the vast amount of information the world presents them on a daily, even hourly basis. Each person has their own thinking style which influences how teams collaborate and problem solve. However, miscommunication can often arise when individuals fail to recognize and adapt to the varying processing methods, which can lead to frustration and inefficiency.
This research seeks to …
The Development Of Cosmological Theories And Their Correlation With Biblical Scripture In Ancient Times, Margaret A. Burcie
The Development Of Cosmological Theories And Their Correlation With Biblical Scripture In Ancient Times, Margaret A. Burcie
Masters Theses
Agnostics and astronomical researchers like Harlow Shapley's contributions to cosmology, specifically his recalibration of the Milky Way and the discovery of its true structure and size, marked an important moment in individuals’ understanding of the universe.”1 These theorists have redefined humanity's place in the cosmos by accentuating empirical observations over religious theories, laying the groundwork for modern cosmology while simultaneously reigniting the age-old debate about the universe's origin. “Theories may crumble, but good observations never fade,”2 accentuate the lifelong importance of scientific research.
This paper focuses on the relationship between the development of cosmological theories and biblical interpretations; these will …

Creativity As A Universal Calling: Exploring The “God As Creator” Motif And Imago Dei As Foundations For Christian Practice And Ministry, Catherine Delanee Belcher
Masters Theses
“I’m just not a creative person.” This phrase is frequently expressed in various contexts, from elementary school art classes to collaborative projects in academic and church settings. It often functions as a convenient explanation for a perceived lack of enthusiasm or participation. Why is this statement so readily accepted as an unchangeable reality rather than challenged as a misconception? There appears to be a widespread belief that creativity is an exclusive attribute, reserved for artists, musicians, or visionaries. This assumption invites a critical theological inquiry: Is creativity an innate ability bestowed upon a select few, or is it a divine …
The Craft Of Christie: A Dissection Of Agatha Christie’S Creation Of Character, Rachel Grace Olds
The Craft Of Christie: A Dissection Of Agatha Christie’S Creation Of Character, Rachel Grace Olds
Masters Theses
Agatha Christie’s writing is widely known, but not deeply known. She is a master of the genre of mystery, and many critics and scholars have lauded her genius. However, she is not often recognized for her mastery of the craft of character. In fact, several critics have misunderstood her characters as two-dimensional beings that exist only to advance the plot. This thesis aims to examine the way Agatha Christie crafts her characters, how her methods of the craft of character work to perfectly mislead her readers, and her ultimate purpose for creating and implementing manipulative elements for the reader. In …
