Internet Training For Lay Leaders To Meet Pastoral Care Needs, David W. Peterson Feb 2006

Internet Training For Lay Leaders To Meet Pastoral Care Needs, David W. Peterson

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

A review of current literature and ministry websites demonstrates that very little material is available online to assist ministry leaders and teachers with the pastoral needs issues they face in their ministries. Most ministry websites are information based rather than education based. Based on surveys and questionnaires sent to leaders and teachers, the project reviews educational website material and takes the reader though the process of developing a ministry educational website for their own ministry. The result is an educational website that may be further developed to equip for meeting pastoral care needs encountered in ministry.

Restating The "Original Source Exception" To The False Claims Act's “Public Disclosure Bar”, Joel D. Hesch

Faculty Publications and Presentations

The False Claims Act (FCA) is the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) primary litigative tool to combat fraud under federal government programs, including as Medicare and the military. The FCA provides for triple damages and civil penalties. It also contains a unique qui tam provision, which allows a whistleblower, known as a “relator,” to file a FCA lawsuit on behalf of the government and receive a share of 15-25% in the recovery. The DOJ has recovered $20 billion under the FCA from companies cheating the government, and has paid out over $2 billion in citizen rewards. The FCA contains a “public …

Reconstructing A Biblical Model Of Giving: A Discussion Of Relevant Systematic Issues And New Testament Principles, Andreas J. Kostenberger, David A. Croteau

SOR Faculty Publications and Presentations

In a previous article the authors discussed all relevant references to tithing in Scripture and concluded that the continuation of a tithing requirement cannot be adequately supported by the exegesis of individual texts. In the present article, we assess the applicability of tithing in light of pertinent systematic issues. Following a discussion of the relationship between the Mosaic Law and the new covenant, larger systematic issues that have been used to argue for the continuation of tithing are analyzed and criticized. The article concludes with a survey of NT principles for giving.

Peri-Nuclear Clustering Of Mitochondria Is Triggered During Aluminum Maltolate Induced Apoptosis, David A. Dewitt, Jennifer A. Hurd, Nena Fox, Brigitte E. Townsend, Kathleen J. S. Griffioen, Othman Ghribi, John Savory Jan 2006

Peri-Nuclear Clustering Of Mitochondria Is Triggered During Aluminum Maltolate Induced Apoptosis, David A. Dewitt, Jennifer A. Hurd, Nena Fox, Brigitte E. Townsend, Kathleen J. S. Griffioen, Othman Ghribi, John Savory

Faculty Publications and Presentations

Synapse loss and neuronal death are key features of Alzheimer’s disease pathology. Disrupted axonal transport of mitochondria is a potential mechanism that could contribute to both. As the major producer of ATP in the cell, transport of mitochondria to the synapse is required for synapse maintenance. However, mitochondria also play an important role in the regulation of apoptosis. Investigation of aluminum (Al) maltolate induced apoptosis in human NT2 cells led us to explore the relationship between apoptosis related changes and the disruption of mitochondrial transport. Similar to that observed with tau over expression, NT2 cells exhibit peri-nuclear clustering of mitochondria …

Gender Equity Of Traditional And Non-Traditional Career Roles In Newbery Award-Winning And Honor Books, Mark Boster May 2005

Gender Equity Of Traditional And Non-Traditional Career Roles In Newbery Award-Winning And Honor Books, Mark Boster

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this study was to determine whether Newbery Award-Winning and Honor books from 1995-2004 present careers in a traditional or non-traditional manner. Two of the most recognizable titles, due to recent Hollywood productions, are Because of Winn-Dixie and Holes. Though there has been much research in the area of gender roles, which indicates males and females in children’s literature are depicted stereotypically, no research was found concerning the area of literary gender stereotypes in careers. After reviewing the use of bibliotherapy and theories of career and gender development, this quantitative descriptive study found careers in Newbery Award and …

Increasing Revenue And Cutting Costs: The Financial Aspect Of Big Budget Football, Michael Troy Hagen Apr 2005

Increasing Revenue And Cutting Costs: The Financial Aspect Of Big Budget Football, Michael Troy Hagen

Senior Honors Theses

The growth of college sports in recent years into a multi-billion dollar industry has significantly increased the financial obligations and incentive guidelines under which many universities operate. Nowhere has the drastic increase of incentive to be competitive been as prevalent as the sport of football. Under constant pressure and intense scrutiny from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and critics, schools must now find ways to decrease costs and increase revenues of their athletic programs, primarily through changes to the structure and business of the sport of football. Schools have attempted to reduce unnecessary costs, and at times, these reductions …
