The Effects Of Mosaic Law Observance On Human Health, Emily Uhlmeyer
The Effects Of Mosaic Law Observance On Human Health, Emily Uhlmeyer
Senior Honors Theses
For the people of ancient Israel, life was guided and regulated by adherence to the law of Moses. Dietary restrictions, purification rituals, circumcision, and Sabbath observance were each critical components of this code and were meticulously detailed in the Old Testament, specifically in the Torah. Still today, dietary laws are observed and select rituals practiced by many Jews and Seventh Day Adventists. Although health protection was never the primary purpose of the law, noticeable effects on human health have been connected to its observance. Evaluation of the effects of the Levitical law on human health can be achieved by a …
Transcendent Financial Planning, Joseph Daughtry
Transcendent Financial Planning, Joseph Daughtry
Senior Honors Theses
Financial planning is a broad discipline that involves many different categories of work. Professionally, the goal of financial planning is to help a client invest according to his/her personal needs in such a way that minimizes risk. From a Christian perspective, financial planning is about stewarding what God has given. Combining these perspectives means helping a client invest their finances in such a way that minimizes risk and accomplishes the goals of God. While simply stated, this is a complex and profound topic. To bring greater clarity, financial planning can be broken down into categories, four of which are retirement …
The Impact Of Different Worldviews On The Financial Planning Process, Luke Osterhus
The Impact Of Different Worldviews On The Financial Planning Process, Luke Osterhus
Senior Honors Theses
An individual's worldview has an effect on all aspects of their life. Worldview affects the decisions people make, the clothes they wear, the people they interact with, and so much more. What is often overlooked is the impact of worldview on one's view and use of money. Money is universal and everyone has some form of currency or assets. However, the way money is used, whether it is saved, spent, or invested, is often determined by an individual's own concept of money. Additionally, relationships between people are often chosen or influenced by an individual's worldview. Human beings are seen differently …
The Threat Of Communism To Judeo-Christian Tradition And How To Stop It, Vittoria D'Addesi
The Threat Of Communism To Judeo-Christian Tradition And How To Stop It, Vittoria D'Addesi
Senior Honors Theses
Judeo-Christian tradition is what has made America great. Today, the biggest threat to Judeo-Christian values in the United States is the rise of communism. This threat stems from the large-scale decline in the percentage of the American population who adheres to a biblical worldview. A biblical worldview is the moral foundation for Judeo-Christian tradition, so without a dominant biblical worldview, Judeo-Christian tradition cannot survive. There are two parts to the stopping the spread of communism. First, a biblical worldview must be restored to America. Second, capitalism must be upheld because it is the only economic system with which a biblical …
Toxic: How Modern Feminism Has Destroyed American Society, Garridy Hamilton
Toxic: How Modern Feminism Has Destroyed American Society, Garridy Hamilton
Senior Honors Theses
The past century has brought about more societal change in the United States and the entire world than any other century before it. Among the most influential of these trends is the movement of feminism, which arose in America in the 1960s. While conservatives and Christians are quick to condemn the more striking aspects of this movement—such as in regards to the mythical wage gap—as a whole, these groups have bought into the more subtle deceptions of feminism. Trends such as late marriage and an emphasis on education and career prior to family planning have only been exacerbated by reinforcement …
The Death Of The Knight: The Relationship Between British Heroic Art And Literary Tradition To The First World War, Madelynn Hobson
The Death Of The Knight: The Relationship Between British Heroic Art And Literary Tradition To The First World War, Madelynn Hobson
Senior Honors Theses
Art and literature are tools that can be used to gauge the mood of a particular time. Paintings, poetry, and other works hold clues which tell popular opinions and ideals of the era. Leading up to World War I, British art and literature defined the heroic figure as one who resembled the chivalrous knight of days gone by. Warriors were to be virtuous and fight for the vulnerable, upholding peace through their God-given quests. During and after the war, however, British art and literature painted the warrior to be a bleak, even disfigured and incomplete, character. The Great War's severity …
Political Protests In Professional And Collegiate Athletics, Christian Shields
Political Protests In Professional And Collegiate Athletics, Christian Shields

Sports are an integral part of American culture. In recent years, however, athletics have been increasingly intertwined with political discussion. This includes several important political discussions such as social justice, gender equality and others. While this phenomenon has been primarily seen at the professional level, collegiate athletics have also begun to mingle with political discourse. An analysis of both professional and collegiate athletic protests showed a better understanding of why politics have become prevalent in athletics as well as an opportunity to decide whether such practices in sports should be encouraged. First, the history of political protest in both college …

Design Considerations Of A Magnus Effect Flettner Rotorcraft, Benjamin Cook
Design Considerations Of A Magnus Effect Flettner Rotorcraft, Benjamin Cook
Senior Honors Theses
Airfoils have dominated the development of aircraft since the Wright brothers’ first flight. There are very few (if any) functional alternative mechanisms for heavier-than-air flight. However, in exploring the Magnus effect phenomenon applied to Flettner rotors in a rotorcraft configuration, a new and significantly underdeveloped method of heavier-than-air flight may be accomplished. Considering the aerodynamic context of the Magnus effect and its implementation in existing applications, this research principally concerns a single proposed mechanism and its design, viability, and lift-surface optimization. The proposed mechanism employs at least two 180o offset rotating cylinders rotating about a central vertical axis, like …
Gödel's Incompleteness Theorems, Derick Swarey
Gödel's Incompleteness Theorems, Derick Swarey
Senior Honors Theses
The Incompleteness Theorems of Kurt Godel are very famous both within and outside of mathematics. They focus on independence and consistency within mathematics and hence a more thorough understanding of these is beneficial to their study. The proofs of the theorems involve many ideas which may be unfamiliar to many, including those of formal systems, Godel numbering, and recursive functions and relations. The arguments themselves mirror the Liar’s Paradox in that Godel constructs a statement asserting its own unprovability and then shows that such a statement and its negation must both be independent of the system, otherwise the system is …
Maritime Moves: The American Response To The South China Sea Conflict, Joshua Jachlewski
Maritime Moves: The American Response To The South China Sea Conflict, Joshua Jachlewski
Senior Honors Theses
China is quickly becoming a world power and will soon reach parity with the United States. China has gotten far more aggressive in its expansion, which extends to the islands within the South China Sea. China claims most of this based on the Nine-Dash Line, in violation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. As the current world superpower, the United States must respond to these claims given the geostrategic importance of the region. An analysis of the current Chinese and US positions, as well as those of the other littoral states with competing claims, allows …
Tissue Engineering And The Future Of Transplant Medicine, Gabrielle Gill

Tissue engineering is an emerging field in medicine. The purpose is to synthesize new tissue that the body will not reject but will use to heal the body from its own cells. It will lay down new material, with hopes that the new tissue will develop and continue to regenerate. This is performed with the use of stem cells, scaffolding and growth materials. Tissue engineering was birthed as a solution for organ transplants. The technique for transplanting organs has a long history as it has evolved over the years and continues to progress with technology. There have been many advantages …
Media Coverage Of Anthropogenic Climate Change: Analysis Of Coverage, Issues, And Implications For Public Engagement And Government Policy, Renee Farmer
Senior Honors Theses
Media coverage of climate change is responsible for shaping both public understanding and government policies regarding the environment. The public relies on the media to translate the oftentimes complex terminology, processes, and implications of environmental research and findings. Unfortunately, miscommunication frequently occurs as the media seek to bridge this knowledge gap, with implications including hostile public sentiment, failure to take necessary action, and ineffective or harmful governmental policies. This thesis will provide an overview of how the media cover climate change, including analyses of both poor and successful coverage of issues, identification of risks and reoccurring problems present in media …
Oral History: A Tool For The Elementary And Middle Classroom, Jessica Keiser
Oral History: A Tool For The Elementary And Middle Classroom, Jessica Keiser
Senior Honors Theses
Modern historical instruction requires educators to cover broad expanses of history and prepare students for standardized testing. In the push to meet state standards and cover the vast curriculum in short periods of time, many educators have begun to teach to the textbook. Much to the detriment of students, this educational practice has favored periodization and content quantity over the development of crucial historical skills. Rather than adhering to popular education trends, teachers can consider implementing oral history projects within their elementary and middle school classrooms. Oral history is a methodology that employs first-hand accounts to teach about key historical …

Effects Of Esg Investing On Returns, Hank De Roover
Senior Honors Theses
Countless researchers have sought to find out if there is a positive correlation between Environmental, Societal, and Governance (ESG) investing and returns that beat the market over the past few decades. To analyze what ESG investing is, the history of the practice, and if there can be any conclusion drawn between ESG investing and returns. A deeper understanding of what goes into returns, including modern portfolio theory, will uncover that ESG securities cannot be efficiently placed on the efficient frontier. Risk associated with ESG stocks cannot only be tied directly to beta, but also to external qualitative forces that make …
The Yeast Glucose Sensing Receptor Is Stabilized By Interaction With Casein Kinases, Emma E. Mohler
The Yeast Glucose Sensing Receptor Is Stabilized By Interaction With Casein Kinases, Emma E. Mohler
Senior Honors Theses
Many metabolic diseases are rooted in the inability to process glucose or regulate its uptake. These processes can be explored using yeast as a model. Rgt2 is a glucose sensing receptor in yeast, and it detects glucose concentration outside the cell. This receptor is present on the plasma membrane in high glucose conditions but absent in low glucose. Western blot and a yeast two-hybrid assay were used to investigate the relationship between Rgt2 and the plasma membrane-tethered yeast casein kinases, Yck1 and Yck2. This research demonstrated that in high glucose, Rgt2 is stabilized on the plasma membrane by interaction with …

How Pornography Consumption Affects The Consumer And A Biblical Response To The Temptations Of Modern Sexuality, Peyton Mayes
Senior Honors Theses
It has been shown that 93% of boys and 62% girls prior to age 13 have been exposed to pornography (Sabina et al., 2008). Only in the last decade has the ability to view sexual content been made available to almost all groups of society, regardless of wealth or social status. This paper will address this issue by reviewing literature on the neuropathology, sexual dysfunctions, and violent content associated with pornography consumption. Although a significant amount of research has been done on the impacts of pornography, there is relatively little discussion on possible interventional methods. This gap in knowledge will …

The Sublethal Response Of Cambarus Sp. To Acute Low Dose Herbicide Exposure Evidenced By A Change In Ggt Levels And Apoptosis, Amelia Wickham
Senior Honors Theses
Following application, herbicidal runoff can collect in freshwater ecosystems, briefly exposing non-target organisms. As biological indicators, crayfish serve as models to assess freshwater health. Chemically stressed crayfish form reactive oxygen species (ROS) which are neutralized by the glutathione pathway. As glutathione depletes, γ-glutamyl-transferase (GGT) upregulates to increase glutathione formation. High oxidative stress lowers glutathione levels and subsequent apoptosis occurs. For this acute study, crayfish were exposed to 5ppb and 50ppb of atrazine, glyphosate, and 2,4-D. Herbicide exposures were expected to induce higher GGT production, increased oxidative stress, and increased apoptosis. Instead, GGT and apoptosis predominately decreased relative to the control. …
