Narrative Activism: Storytelling For Effective Women’S Advocacy, Lili Morgan
Narrative Activism: Storytelling For Effective Women’S Advocacy, Lili Morgan
Liberty University Research Week
The modern world grapples with profound injustices, requiring believers to expend efforts in the development of tools that promote societal transformation. This master’s thesis endeavors to contribute to the fields of advocacy and composition by investigating the integration of storytelling in women’s advocacy efforts. The necessity of women’s advocacy is evident in a review of global data on gender inequity, which demonstrates devastating disparities in areas of economic agency, educational attainment, vocational opportunity, healthcare access, and violence prevention. Vast scholarship demonstrates the power of storytelling in aiding advocacy related work; yet, no existing research provides practical writing strategies for those …

In late 2019 and early 2020, we observed the emergence of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which quickly spread around the world, becoming a pandemic and global health crisis. This study, via a literature review, presents an epidemiologic examination of the adverse effects of the mRNA Covid-19 vaccine. Research findings are compiled and compared to better understand the cardiovascular effects of the vaccine from a population level perspective. Incidence and prevalence rates are examined by various demographic factors, primarily age and gender. Specifically, the most prevalent adverse cardiovascular effects noted are myocarditis, pericarditis, cardiovascular disease, tachycardia, hypertension, palpitation, and …
Communication Challenges In Nursing: Delegation, Accountability, And Technology Impact: An Integrated Literature Review, Austin Love
Liberty University Research Week
Is there a means by which collaborative communication between Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAPs) and Registered Nurses (RNs) can be effectively facilitated? There has been a noticeable decline in the effectiveness of delegation and interpersonal accountability between nurses and UAPs. Conversely, there has been a decrease in patient engagement in activities of daily living. This may contribute to hospital-acquired pressure injuries, falls, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, central line associated blood stream infections, prolonged hospitalizations, and the need for post-acute rehabilitation. Communication breakdowns are identified as contributors to medical malpractice, emphasizing their pivotal role in patient outcomes. The influence of social media …

Museum Exhibition Project: Hands Of Extinction, Katy Fulkerson
Liberty University Research Week
Problem Statement The research problem stated that I was to conceptualize an original museum exhibition and create promotional materials, mock displays of the exhibit, and utilize environmental graphic principles. First, I had to determine the topic, then name and visual identity, and finally I took those elements and created both display spaces and additional promotional materials. I was required to create mockups of two main exhibit walls, an entrance wall, one outdoors advertisement, and design a custom handout. Since this was a project mostly devoted to environmental design, most of the designs were made with intention of connecting with its …

Brand Campaign: The Bronze Rose, Rachel Rosenberger
Liberty University Research Week
I was tasked with creating the branding for a coffee shop, ice cream shoppe, or burger joint that avoids cliches. This brand campaign was driven by the research of where is the most adequate location of a burger joint would be for the specific location. This is could only be determined by narrowing the audience of this restaurant. Using the US Census I compiled information about the demographic relating to their age, media preferences, marital status, whether they have children, their education, social activities or hobbies, social causes, and where they live. I also researched which cities in the United …
Peter Pan Book Cover, Cassandra Poorman
Peter Pan Book Cover, Cassandra Poorman
Liberty University Research Week
Book covers have the difficult task of encompassing the themes and heart of a book with one picture. This one picture can even be the determining factor between someone buying that book or leaving it to stay perched on the bookstore’s shelf. My communication objective for this project was to effectively display Peter Pan’s story in a new/different way than what has been done before. Many cover illustrations for Peter Pan depict the main characters seen in the book. There is an abundance that display Peter Pan, Wendy, and Tinkerbell flying to or over Neverland. Alongside the protagonists, Captain Hook’s …
Decoding Political Narratives: Artificial Art And The Crafting Of Symbolic Realities, Lindsay Anton
Decoding Political Narratives: Artificial Art And The Crafting Of Symbolic Realities, Lindsay Anton
Liberty University Research Week
This research uncovers the impact of artificially generated art on political narratives. Its primary focus is to explore the influence of AI-generated narratives on public opinion. The main question is: “How do artificially created narratives, such as realistic images of political figures, shape and influence public perception?” To address this question, the study examines Ernest Borman's Symbolic Convergence Theory. This theory, which originally observed dramatized messages or narratives known as fantasy themes, explains how these narratives contribute to the formation of group consciousness. Borman noted that individuals engage in the sharing, reiteration, and interweaving of these fantasy narratives. This creates …

In addition to his persuasive tone, this study explored and evaluated the appeals of logos, pathos, and ethos tailored in Jim Jones’ final speech, Q042, now commonly coined, “The Death Tapes.” The methodology employed in this study meticulously examined the artifact by listening exclusively through the tapes for each appeal and the impacts of …
Humanitarian Aid Worker Retention: Is General Motivation Theory Enough?, Gabriella Lee
Humanitarian Aid Worker Retention: Is General Motivation Theory Enough?, Gabriella Lee
Senior Honors Theses
In the socially impactful realm of humanitarian business, job dissatisfaction has led to high turnover and low retention, causing many organizations to struggle and sometimes fail. To increase motivation and satisfaction, the differences between general motivation theories and common humanitarian motivations should be analyzed. These analyses can then be applied to increase retention. While most general motivation theories like Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs point to internal or personal needs being met, humanitarian employees are mainly motivated altruistically. Therefore, this research will demonstrate that altruistic motivations have a greater role in humanitarian retention than traditional motivation theories. Existing human resource policies …

Christian Code Of Silence: The Church’S Current Response To Clergy Sexual Misconduct And Potential Improvements Utilizing Principles Of Restorative Justice, Skya Lau
Senior Honors Theses
The prevalent and pervasive issue of clergy sexual misconduct within the Christian church has been perpetuated under a code of silence through the use of perverted Scripture to support its tactics. By departing from biblically aligned principles, and silencing the victims and protecting the offenders, the church’s current response has detrimental effects, calling into question the moral standing of the church. However, by practically implementing the principles of community, accountability, and forgiveness found in restorative justice and interpreting them through a biblical lens, the church can begin to improve their response. In dismantling the code of silence, the church can …
Artificial General Intelligence And The Mind-Body Problem: Exploring The Computability Of Simulated Human Intelligence In Light Of The Immaterial Mind, Caleb Parks
Senior Honors Theses
In this thesis I explore whether achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI) through simulating the human brain is theoretically possible. Because of the scientific community’s predominantly physicalist outlook on the mind-body problem, AGI research may be limited by erroneous foundational presuppositions. Arguments from linguistics and mathematics demonstrate that the human intellect is partially immaterial, opening the door for novel analysis of the mind’s simulability. I categorize mind-body problem philosophies in a manner relevant to computer science based upon state transitions, and determine their ramifications on mind-simulation. Finally, I demonstrate how classical architectures cannot resolve so-called Gödel statements, discuss why this inability …

Parallelized Quadtrees For Image Compression In Cuda And Mpi, Aidan Jones
Senior Honors Theses
Quadtrees are a data structure that lend themselves well to image compression due to their ability to recursively decompose 2-dimensional space. Image compression algorithms that use quadtrees should be simple to parallelize; however, current image compression algorithms that use quadtrees rarely use parallel algorithms. An existing program to compress images using quadtrees was upgraded to use GPU acceleration with CUDA but experienced an average slowdown by a factor of 18 to 42. Another parallelization attempt utilized MPI to process contiguous chunks of an image in parallel and experienced an average speedup by a factor of 1.5 to 3.7 compared to …
Where The Blue Flowers Grow: Sehnsucht And Eucatastrophe In Christian Fantasy Literature, Ashley Shepherd
Where The Blue Flowers Grow: Sehnsucht And Eucatastrophe In Christian Fantasy Literature, Ashley Shepherd
Senior Honors Theses
Sehnsucht is a longing for Heaven that cannot be fully described or fulfilled in this world. Eucatastrophe is an unexpected turn of events in a story that brings about incredible joy and a happy ending. This thesis examines how fantasy authors George MacDonald, C. S. Lewis, and J. R. R. Tolkien explore both of these spiritual phenomena in many of their works. This thesis also discusses how sehnsucht and eucatastrophe appear in Scripture and can be used in stories to point readers to Heaven. Biblically, sehnsucht is a longing for Heaven, and eucatastrophe serves as the fulfillment of that longing. …
