Simulating Cyber-Resilience: The Strategic Role Of The Locked Shields Exercise In Enhancing International Cyber Preparedness, Christopher A. Ramezan, Ludwig Christian Schaupp, Elizabeth A. Vitullo, William J. Walker
Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
As cyberthreats to critical infrastructure remain prevalent, national response mechanisms must evolve beyond the technical domain to incorporate legal, communicative, strategic, and cross-sector coordination. This work explores Locked Shields, an annual exercise conducted by NATO's Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence, as a pedagogical and conceptual framework for simulating whole-of-government responses to cyber incidents. Unlike traditional cyber exercises, Locked Shields engages legal advisors, media strategists, and civil-military roles in realistic, scenario-driven simulations that portray the political and operational conditions of a real international-scale cyber crisis. We detail the exercise architecture, contrast with other cyber exercises, and assess its pedagogical and …

Is Hockey Still Canada’S Game? How Usa Teams Have Won Every Stanley Cup Since 1994, Aaron Montgomery, Long Doan, Joe Demaio, Michael Frankel
Is Hockey Still Canada’S Game? How Usa Teams Have Won Every Stanley Cup Since 1994, Aaron Montgomery, Long Doan, Joe Demaio, Michael Frankel
Symposium of Student Scholars
The last Canadian team to win Lord Stanley’s cup in the National Hockey League was the Montreal Canadiens in 1993. Since then, each championship has been claimed by a team geographically located in the United States. Is this streak unusual? Perhaps it is particularly unusual in light of the fact that Hockey is known as Canada’s game. Is Hockey in its modern incarnation still Canada’s game? Given the long history of the NHL should we expect such a streak to occur at some point in time? Are we too fixated on the geographic location of the teams in question? Perhaps …

Sharpening The Past: Analysis Of Pre-Contact Stone Tools From The Cummings Site, Bartow County, Georgia, Kelsi J. Merkel, Terry Powis
Symposium of Student Scholars
This archaeological study presents a technological and morphological analysis of formal lithic tools recovered from excavation at the Cummings site (9BR710) in Bartow County, Georgia. The Cummings site is located about three kilometers northwest of the Etowah Indian Mounds in Bartow County, Georgia, and is nestled about 500 meters from the Etowah River. Radiocarbon dating and analysis of ceramic material recovered from the site indicates prime occupations during the Early-Middle Woodland (1000 BC - AD 500) and Middle Mississippian (1250 - 1375) periods, but typological analysis on lithic tools has yet to be done. For my research, a total of …
Civics Teachers’ Perceptions Of Disciplinary Literacy Strategies That Use Primary Sources: A Case Study, Whitney Williams
Civics Teachers’ Perceptions Of Disciplinary Literacy Strategies That Use Primary Sources: A Case Study, Whitney Williams
Dissertations
This study has been designed as a case study to examine teachers’ perceptions of document-based strategies when combined with primary sources as pedagogical tools. The participants were ninth grade civics teachers. Semi-structured interviews, focused observations, and artifact collection were the sources of collected data. As the researcher, my constructivism guided this study through the lens of Albert Bandura’s social cognitive theory (SCT). Therefore, the participants’ perception will be interpreted through SCT concepts such as personal influences, behavioral influences, and environmental influences. Findings show a handful of disciplinary literacy strategies that occurred most often across all participants. Teachers valued an emphasis …
Teaching For Global Ecological Citizenship: A Case Study Of Rural Teachers’ Experiences And Practices, Sarah L. Tennyson
Teaching For Global Ecological Citizenship: A Case Study Of Rural Teachers’ Experiences And Practices, Sarah L. Tennyson
Dissertations
The purpose of this qualitative case study is to examine the experiences and practices of rural educators incorporating global ecological citizenship education into the social studies classroom. The systematic themes of social studies education in the past must evolve with the diversity of the classroom. Traditional themes taught must become more globally relevant, including ecological citizenship, the responsibility of citizens to sustain and participate in global ecological issues. One on one interviews with four rural Georgia educators along with artifacts they provided were examined for themes related to two research questions. How do rural educators adapt their instructional strategies to …

Individuals’ Perspectives On The Location Of Tornado Alley And Their Decision To Take Shelter, Sara R. Lippi, David A. Call, Nathan M. Hitchens
Individuals’ Perspectives On The Location Of Tornado Alley And Their Decision To Take Shelter, Sara R. Lippi, David A. Call, Nathan M. Hitchens
The Geographical Bulletin
This paper examines how individual’s views of their location relative to Tornado Alley affects their decision to shelter. Tornado Alley is a common term promoted by the media as an area of the United States thought to have the greatest tornado intensity and frequency. While this term is now considered anachronistic by meteorologists, it is a colloquial term that individuals might use to guide tornado safety-related decisions. For this study, an online survey was used to identify where respondents believed Tornado Alley to be and how their location relative to it affected their decision to take shelter. It was found …

Perceptions Of Sustainable Agriculture In Western Wisconsin Among Current Dairy Farmers, Morgan Dekan, Ryan Weichelt
Perceptions Of Sustainable Agriculture In Western Wisconsin Among Current Dairy Farmers, Morgan Dekan, Ryan Weichelt
The Geographical Bulletin
Sustainable agriculture uses environmentally responsible farming practices to meet the needs of society without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. It is a form of farming that is concerned with the health of the farmland and surrounding environment and works to protect both. Wisconsin’s economy is reliant on farming, with over 64,000 farms generating over $104 billion annually for the state. Despite the state’s reliance on agriculture, there is a lack of research on sustainable farming in Wisconsin; therefore, this study sent surveys to hundreds of dairy farmers throughout western Wisconsin asking them about their perceptions …
Locating Economic Enclaves In Denver, Colorado 1923 Using Historic Newspaper Advertisements, Jeremy Havens
Locating Economic Enclaves In Denver, Colorado 1923 Using Historic Newspaper Advertisements, Jeremy Havens
The Geographical Bulletin
By mapping business advertisements found in various targeted readership newspapers published in Denver, Colorado from a century ago, it was hoped that business enclaves that existed at the time would be revealed. Addresses printed during the first week of May 1923 from three newspapers with targeted audiences (for Swedish speakers, African Americans, and Jewish readers), as well as those from a city-wide mainstream paper, were mapped. GIS tools were then used to locate clusters from the location points, which were used as evidence of enclave-type commercial districts. This method found two isolated clusters, one for businesses advertising in the African …
Gamification And Collaborative Learning In Physical Geography: Teaching Geological History In Higher Education, Pablo Fraile-Jurado
Gamification And Collaborative Learning In Physical Geography: Teaching Geological History In Higher Education, Pablo Fraile-Jurado
The Geographical Bulletin
This paper evaluates the impact of a collaborative gamification approach designed to help university students better understand and retain abstract content in geological and climatic history. Inspired by the board game Timeline, the activity required students to physically organize themselves to represent a chronological sequence of key geological and climatic events. Conducted within a first-year physical geography course, the intervention was tested by comparing learning outcomes between an experimental group engaging in this gamified activity and a control group receiving traditional lecture-based instruction. Results show that students in the gamified group performed significantly better on assessments administered one week and …
Mapping The Margins: The Anniston Civil Rights Trail Story Map As A Model For Participatory Public History And The Decentralization Of Historical Narratives, Mark J. Sciuchetti Jr., Jianping Coco Huang, Jennifer Green, Sarah Faulkner
The Geographical Bulletin
While commemorative narratives of the Civil Rights Movement often echo the oft-repeated names and stories of nationally recognized figures and sites of protest, localized histories—particularly those rooted in smaller communities like Anniston, Alabama, USA—remain marginalized in dominant public memory frameworks. In light of this, this article documents the creation and implementation of the Anniston Civil Rights Trail story map: a digital public history initiative designed to recover, interpret, and spatially contextualize ten key sites associated with Civil Rights activism in Anniston. Drawing on theoretical frameworks in geographic memory, counter-mapping, and participatory public history, the case study demonstrates how interactive mapping …
Studying The Difference Between Mapping Accuracy Of Non-Rtk Ultra-Lightweight And Rtk-Enabled Survey-Grade Drones, Mostafa Arastounia
Studying The Difference Between Mapping Accuracy Of Non-Rtk Ultra-Lightweight And Rtk-Enabled Survey-Grade Drones, Mostafa Arastounia
Faculty Articles
This study compares the mapping accuracy of a non-RTK ultra-lightweight drone (DJI Mini2) with two survey-grade RTK-enabled drones (DJI Mavic3E and Phantom4) in three different sites. Flight parameters and weather conditions were the same on each site. The outputs were orthomosaics and digital surface models, whose accuracies were inspected by descriptive statistics and variance analysis tools. The data of the ultralight drone on the first site could not be processed due to strong wind, but its results for the second site (11 hectares) were comparable to those of survey-grade drones, i.e., the range and average of checkpoint errors for Mini2 …
Problematic Smartphone Use Experiences Of Students, Gbolahan Olasina
Problematic Smartphone Use Experiences Of Students, Gbolahan Olasina
The African Journal of Information Systems
Smartphones extend people's opportunities by improving their daily living and well-being. Hence, given the tool’s features and affordances that promote human development, smartphones facilitate the achievement of the individual liberties and freedoms of ordinary people. However, there are serious concerns about the emotional, social and cultural factors underlying smartphone usage patterns and their association with problematic use and depressive behaviors. Therefore, the overriding goal of the research reported on in this paper was to investigate how smartphone use influences individuals’ emotional wellness, interpersonal relationships and sociocultural contexts. Existing academic literature indicated that there was a need to investigate the intricate …

The Michael L. Printz Award is presented annually by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) to recognize one book as the Printz Award winner and up to four books as Honor books. In areas of rapid growth like young adult (YA) publishing, librarians may add books recognized by an award as part of their collection development practice. The number of Printz Award winner and Honor books in a Mississippi library’s holdings can be viewed as a standard to see if Mississippi is falling behind or keeping up with trends in young adult publishing. Building on research completed for an …

Efficacy Of Fintech Solutions In Advancing Financial Inclusion For The Underserved In South Africa: A Systematic Literature Review, Tebogo S. Legodi, Adheesh Budree
African Conference on Information Systems and Technology
Financial inclusion in South Africa is a critical mechanism for addressing systemic poverty, unemployment, and inequality. Fintech solutions have increasingly been positioned as key enablers of expanded access to financial services, particularly among underserved populations. However, there remains a lack of literature that evaluates the efficacy, rather than merely the impact, of these technologies. This study presents a systematic literature review (SLR) of 21 peer-reviewed articles, policy documents, and industry reports to examine how Fintech advances financial inclusion in South Africa. The literature is synthesised into four thematic categories: Financial Inclusion (Concepts and Metrics); Fintech in South Africa and Global …

Participatory Community Archiving To Preserve And Sustain North Georgia Appalachia’S Language, Literacy Practices, And Histories, Leah Panther Dr., Lindsey Walker, Presley Dyer, Tyler Osborn, Kerri Abernathy
Georgia Library Quarterly
This case study presents Swappin’ Stories, a community-based archiving event that serves as a model for public and participatory archiving. The event aimed to address gaps and misrepresentations of southern Appalachia by gathering the voices, artifacts, and stories of Towns County residents. By centering local narratives, it sought to foster a sense of community identity and offer an authentic portrayal of North Georgia, distinct from the narratives shaped by popular media and political figures. This case highlights the potential of community-driven archives to reclaim and reshape regional histories.
Teacher Leadership In Social Studies: The Search For Meaning And Identity, Zachary F. Lawson
Teacher Leadership In Social Studies: The Search For Meaning And Identity, Zachary F. Lawson
Dissertations
This qualitative research study brings together social studies education and teacher leadership. Social studies lacks study in the teacher leader literature. This study aimed to understand whether the disciplinary nature of social studies education influenced the enactment of teacher leadership. This study sought an answer to the central research question: What does it mean to be a social studies teacher leader? Using a hermeneutic phenomenology research design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews across two groups of participants. Seven social studies teacher leaders made up one group, and five social studies teachers without leadership roles comprised the other. Findings indicated …

Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year
Niger’s cultural identity is shaped by a rich mosaic of ethnic groups, including the Hausa, Zarma-Songhai, Tuareg, and Fulani, each with distinct traditions, building practices, and relationships to the land. For centuries, these communities lived according to their own social and spatial systems, rooted in environment-specific knowledge and craftsmanship. This balance was disrupted during the French colonial period, which began in the late 19th century and lasted until Niger’s independence in 1960. Colonial administration redrew territorial boundaries, centralized authority, and introduced foreign materials, aesthetics, and construction standards, redefining how people built and interacted with their environments. While Niger now appears …
False Starts & Finish Lines: Youth Sports, Coaching, & The Crisis Of The American Dream, John S. Lammert Jr
False Starts & Finish Lines: Youth Sports, Coaching, & The Crisis Of The American Dream, John S. Lammert Jr
Master's Theses
False Starts & Finish Lines: Youth Sports, Coaching, & the Crisis of the American Dream examines how the American youth sports system reflects, reproduces, and at times resists the evolving contradictions of the American Dream. Drawing on a comparative analysis of institutional documents from public high schools, travel clubs, and recreational leagues, this thesis interrogates how youth sports have shifted from inclusive spaces of play and character-building to stratified marketplaces governed by the Athletic Industrial Complex (AIC). It argues that rising costs, performance pressures, and privatized structures have transformed access to sport—and, by extension, to the Dream itself—into a function …
Extractivism And Water Crisis In The Moroccan Draa Oasis: Global South Reflections On Responsibility And Resistance, Ahmed El Khatabi
Extractivism And Water Crisis In The Moroccan Draa Oasis: Global South Reflections On Responsibility And Resistance, Ahmed El Khatabi
Journal of Maya Heritage
Abstract. The Draa Oasis in southeastern Morocco is experiencing severe water scarcity, driven by climate change and intensified by the expansion of watermelon agribusiness and desert tourism. This article explores how external investors, empowered by national agricultural policies, have disrupted traditional water governance systems rooted in collective management. Through ethnographic fieldwork involving interviews, focus groups, and spatial mapping, the study examines the socio-environmental consequences of groundwater depletion and land commodification. It argues that investors fail to assume ethical accountability for the ecological degradation they cause, despite being aware of the oasis’s fragile ecosystem. Meanwhile, local communities and civil society actors …
