Commencement Ceremonies
Planning for the 2020 Commencement ceremony was a dynamic process due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Several links below contain the messages distributed to students and their families in the months leading up to the event which ultimately took place online on August 2, 2020.
This event also celebrated the students who earned scholastic and activity honors during the 2019-20 academic year by distributing the Honors Day Convocation program.

Undergraduate Economic Review
In this paper, I estimate the long-run co-integrated relationship between energy demand and economic growth for 20 countries from the year 2000 to 2016. I use panel unit-root and heterogeneous panel co-integration tests to test for non-stationarity of the panels and to determine whether there is a long-run link between energy consumption and GDP per capita. The estimated model uses a first-difference OLS model to estimate income elasticity of energy demand; the empirical results of this model show that there is a long-run relationship between energy consumption per capita and GDP per capita. In the long-term, on average, with 1% …

Determining Soil Science Lab Protocol To Measure Soil Fauna Influence On Nutrient Flow From Leaf Litter To Soil, Kiersten Bergquist
Determining Soil Science Lab Protocol To Measure Soil Fauna Influence On Nutrient Flow From Leaf Litter To Soil, Kiersten Bergquist
John Wesley Powell Student Research Conference
Soil science is an essential part of ecosystem and agriculture health but is unfortunately not a priority in most non-science students’ education. To counter this, the goal of this study was to determine the best protocol for a general education science lab that would use soil microcosms to explore nutrient cycling from leaf litter decomposition. The experimental procedure was designed to test different combinations of soil organism type, organism density, and leaf density in simple Tupperware microcosms. The best combination was defined as a combination that met the following traits: significant decrease in leaf litter mass and high nutrient flow …

Mutual Economic Incentives For Urban Tree Canopy Restoration, Paul E. Thompson Jr.
Mutual Economic Incentives For Urban Tree Canopy Restoration, Paul E. Thompson Jr.
Undergraduate Economic Review
Potential alignment of economic incentives for tree canopy restoration are modeled using data from a 2015 Louisville Metro Government (KY) Urban Tree Canopy Assessment. The study revealed marked declines in urban canopy coverage from 2004-2012; accelerating losses are forecast through 2050. Tree coverage conveys substantial financial benefit to private property owners, primarily through increased property valuations. Benefits to local government may be derived from the corresponding increase in property tax assessments. A comprehensive cost-benefit analysis demonstrates the economic efficiency of tree purchase vouchers (issued by government to private property owners) as a potential contributing solution to urban canopy loss.
