Recreational Sound Risk For A University Student: Case Study, Michele Wattman, Antony Joseph

AuD Capstone Projects - Communication Sciences and Disorders

Concern about noise exposure in recreational settings is growing and unsafe levels of sound are frequently being experienced in a variety of non-occupational settings such as pubs, nightclubs, concerts, parties, and fitness classes. Damage to the auditory system may occur with regular participation in these loud activities. A case study was conducted to estimate sound exposure levels and risk associated with common activities. Findings demonstrated that pubs presented a hazardous sound environment, so information about health-oriented behavior is essential to effectively improve hearing conservation awareness for university students. Epic Stories: Sequence Fiction, Young Readers, And The Aesthetics Of World Building, Jordana Estelle Hall

Theses and Dissertations

This study theorizes the world building processes that sequence fiction engages within a framework of intratextual structuralism and cognitive aesthetic stage theory. The study begins with an interdisciplinary overview of fictional and possible worlds theory before proposing a structural adaptation of this lens that explains the developmental, aesthetic benefits of the genre for young readers. Chapter II is an application of the adapted lens to a canonical epic, the His Dark Materials sequence by Philip Pullman. I interpret the intentional structure of the story world across novels to discuss how these engage readers at different aesthetic milestones and encourage a …

In summer 2017, I assumed responsibility for my library's institutional repository (IR). Content from the College of Fine Arts (Schools of Music, Art, and Theatre and Dance) had, to that point, been less present in the IR than content from other colleges. With goals of increasing visibility for CFA activities and scholarship and providing a stable digital home for its content, I worked with stakeholders in the library and in CFA to develop new IR collections of programs, newsletters, and student and faculty work.
