The purpose of GAMTE is to encourage and facilitate the improvement of mathematics teacher education across the state of Georgia. The goals of the organization are to: facilitate communication and collaboration among mathematics teacher educators between and within all educational levels; coordinate activities and work collaboratively with other associations, organizations, and governmental (national, state, and local) units to strengthen the mathematical, pedagogical, and clinical preparation of mathematics teachers at all levels (P-college); facilitate collaboration among mathematics teacher educators who are members of different academic units, such as departments of mathematics and departments of education; promote leadership among mathematics teacher educators …

Teaching Social Studies in the Peach State

This paper seeks to survey some of the political forces which clashed in the late 1970s as the U.S. Department of Education was created. It also seeks to posit that President Jimmy Carter’s personal views about schooling in America had more to do with his tireless fight to establish the new department than previous scholars have indicated. Several previous papers on this subject emphasized Carter’s political debt to the National Education Association and that union’s demands that a separate department be created but none focus on Carter’s personal attachment to the ideals of education in a democratic society.

Teaching Social Studies in the Peach State

These classroom-based activities focus on Jimmy Carter, the Heritage Trust Act, and Ossabaw Island. We developed two short classroom experiences based on Georgia social studies standards with supporting English language arts standards: one classroom experience for second grade and the other for eighth grade. Teachers can adapt content and sequence for their grade levels, schedules, and other school-specific factors. Students will explore the history, culture, and geography of Ossabaw Island, Georgia’s third-largest barrier island. Classroom experiences include different sources, photo analysis, and a range of learning activities with modifications; figures and appendices are included.

Teaching Social Studies in the Peach State

The purpose of this article is to highlight the curriculum development and recording of a special episode about Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter for the student-created History in our Backyard: The Names of Places in Georgia podcast. The students’ research process for writing and recording the podcast are highlighted, as well as pedagogical strategies that social studies teachers can use to engage students in creating their own podcasts. Insights from the student researchers are included to provide teachers with actionable steps for promoting historical thinking and inquiry through podcasting.

Teaching Social Studies in the Peach State

The Camp David Accords resulted in a peace between Egypt and Israel that lasted 45 years, but failed to achieve the broader effect that Jimmy Carter was aiming for which was peace in the Middle East. With this lesson plan students taking U.S. History at the secondary education level will analyze U.S. international and domestic policies including their advancements and social changes during the Carter administration. Students will evaluate key issues between Egypt and Israel by analyzing the successes and/or failures of the Camp David Accords. University Libraries: Faculty Presentations

This presentation focuses on employee engagement and the multigenerational workforce in academic libraries. In this session, the professional values and strengths of Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z will be discussed by examining how these generations can collaborate and support each other given their different skill sets, attitudes, and lived experiences. Through the application of Kahn’s Theory of Employee Engagement and the Appreciative Inquiry approach, the focus will be on the dynamic interplay of the generations’ engagement and interaction in the workforce. The goal being to foster productive harmony that leverages the unique contributions of each generation.
