Team Student: A Comprehensive Model For Family-Friendly, Student-Centered Middle Schooling, Gabrielle Brundidge

National Youth Advocacy & Resilience Journal

This article examines the implementation of a holistic, student-centered framework known as TEAM Student at Lee Roy Myers Middle School. Through intentional relationship-building, mentorship, family engagement, and targeted academic support, the school has increased student success and community involvement. The model’s effectiveness is demonstrated through improved behavioral and academic data, enhanced parent-school communication, and a strengthened school culture rooted in empathy and inclusion. This journal article focuses on the Home and Head Strands of NYAR’s goals.

Bullying is one of the most prevalent forms of victimization in schools, affecting nearly one in five students and contributing to academic decline, absenteeism, and mental health concerns. The Bullying Problem Analysis Triangle (B-PAT) provides a schoolwide framework to proactively address bullying by examining three core components: the aggressor, the target, and the opportunity. When one of these elements is disrupted, the bullying dynamic weakens. B-PAT also emphasizes empowering support staff as place managers, protecting targets through effective school climate and education, and redirecting aggressors toward prosocial leadership. The dynamics and complexities of building positive relationships with students are impacted when teachers’ attitudes, values, and biases conflict with school culture. Therefore, schools must learn as much about their students and their experiences as possible to create a culture built on relationships. This essay showcases the values, beliefs, and attitudes necessary to promote a nurturing culturally relevant learning environment which impacts student performance.

Youths from high-risk settings are often labeled based on their behavior, which leads to cycles of negative stigmatization and punitive interventions. Traditional behavioristic approaches used in schools, courts, and therapy have shown limited success in fostering long-term positive change. The SPARK mentoring program offers an innovative approach by following the principles from Martin Buber's “I and Thou” philosophy to view the youths with a humanistic and spiritual model. The SPARK program is a 10-week peer-mentorship program that connects youth on probation with college students who aspire to be educators. The Progression Of Deinstitutionalization And Its Effects On The American South: A Judicial Analysis Of 20th-Century United States Supreme Court Decisions, Eva-Marie V. Jones

Honors College Theses

This thesis explores the effects of four landmark Supreme Court cases on the deinstitutionalization movement in the American south. Previous literature frequently discusses the legislative implications of this era; however, no law is applicable without the interpretation and application of the judiciary, which so often contextualizes the greater public perspective. Rarely has an analysis of judicial decisions involving psychiatric care merged with regional focus, and certainly not in a format accessible to the average individual.

For a family $\mathcal{H}$ of graphs, a graph $G$ is said to be $\mathcal{H}$-free if $G$ contains no member of $\mathcal{H}$ as an induced subgraph. Let $\mathcal{G}_2^{(3)}}(\mathcal{H})$ denote the family of $2$-connected $\mathcal{H}$-free graphs having minimum degree at least $3$. This paper is concerned with families $\mathcal{H}$ of connected graphs with $|\mathcal{H}| = 3$ such that $\mathcal{G}_2^{(3)}}(\mathcal{H})$ is a finite family. In particular, we show that for a connected graph $T$ of order at least $3$ that is not a star, $\mathcal{G}_2^{(3)}(\{K_4,K_{2,2},T\})$ is finite if and only if $T$ is a path of order at most $6$.

The weakened Ramsey number $r^{s,t}(G)$ is defined to be the least $p\in \mathbb{N}$ such that every $t$-coloring of the edges of the complete graph $K_p$ contains a subgraph isomorphic to $G$ that is spanned by edges that use at most $s$ colors ($1\le s\le t-1$). The star-critical weakened Ramsey number $r^{s,t}_*(G)$ then determines the minimum number of edges that must join a vertex to $K_{r^{s,t}(G)-1}$ in order for this Ramsey property to hold. We begin by showing that $r_*^{s,t}(K_n)=r^{s,t}(K_n)-1$ for all $n\in \mathbb{N}$. Then, building off of Khamseh and Omidi's recent determination of $r^{s,t}(K_{1,n})$ when $s=t-1$ and $s=t-2$, we focus …
